Obama Plays The Race Card Again [Reader Post]

Barack Obama spoke the Congressional Black Caucus on Saturday. The Captain of the Titanic was reassuring the passengers that he was only stopping for ice. It was reported in various ways;

In this report, Obama takes a shot at Boehner:

President Obama kept at his renewed effort to stress the economy, telling the Congressional Black Caucus dinner Saturday night that the recession “made matters much worse” in the African-American community.

In his speech, the president also didn’t pass up another opportunity to take a shot at Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio).

Then he went to praise himself:

“As has been true with other recessions, this one came down with a particular vengeance on African-American communities,” Obama said.

The president rattled off a succession of things his administration has done since he took office, including bailing out GM and Chrysler, healthcare reform, Wall Street regulatory reform, and ending the combat mission in Iraq.

Those things have really helped create jobs. In China, that is.

Then he hinted at something:

The president accused his opponents of hatching “a plan to turn back the clock on all the progress we’ve made.”

Over at Politico:

President Barack Obama on Saturday sought to fire up his most loyal base of support, telling the audience at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual dinner that “the time for action is now” to protect the changes brought by his administration and the Democratic-led Congress, such as health care reform and the financial system overhaul.

Health care costs are going up and insurance rates are on their way up like a rocket to cover the “free” things Obama promised. Financial reform has made it more difficult than ever for people to refinance to lower rates and you cannot get a loan for real estate investment no matter how worthy a borrower you are.

But it was the PMSNBC article that really catches your eye.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama came out swinging against Republicans in a fiery campaign-season speech to black lawmakers Saturday night, urging them to “guard the change” he was delivering with the kind of organizing that propelled the civil rights movement.

With the GOP hoping to regain power on Capitol Hill in the November election, Obama described his adversaries as “a crowd … that wants to do what’s right politically, instead of what’s right — period.” He never named the opposing party, referring to it as “the other side.”

“The other side.”

Gee, what could that mean? This is the guy who thrives on code (created or saved). He chooses words very carefully. He has never shied away from naming his “adversaries.” A search for “Obama attacks Republicans” yields 17 million hits.

Then he went on to link this struggle with civil rights:

“What made the civil rights movement possible were foot soldiers like so many of you, sitting down at lunch counters and standing up for freedom. What made it possible for me to be here today are Americans throughout our history making our union more equal, making our union more just, making our union more perfect,” Obama said. “That’s what we need again.”

There’s no doubt as to what Obama was doing, and it wasn’t about appealing to the better interests of people.

Then I saw the story from Reuters:

Obama urges blacks to vote and “guard the change

An image sprang to mind immediately- this is already happening.

The race card DOES have an expiration date.

http://i979.photobucket.com/albums/ae277/RAPH6969/RV.jpg

What “race” card, drjohn? This is all predictable, and partisan tripe. The WH talking points to the DNC over a month ago was not to campaign on “accomplishments”, but to work the crowds on fear of the GOP. That’s what I see… partisanship, not race.

In fact, the only “race” in any of this post is:

1: mentioning the venue
2: that the black community has been hit hard by the recession (as has the rest of the nation, but look at the audience/venue)… and
3: your headline

huh?

Lately I’ve read where Obama’s great organization that brought him into the WH has been destroyed.
ACORN has split into a thousand tiny organizations.
Some of his email lists have been acquired illegally and cannot be used.
And his funding in OforA has dried up.

No wonder he is saying ”we” and ”our” to Black leaders.
He’s hoping they don’t remember when he threw them under the bus as far as saving their jobs and homes went.

I loved this quote:

I need everybody here to go back to your neighborhoods, and your workplaces, to your churches, and barbershops, and beauty shops. Tell them we have more work to do. Tell them we can’t wait to organize. Tell them that the time for action is now,” Obama to the Congressional Black Caucus.

Colin Powell critical of President Obama

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0910/42381.html

This post frankly makes no sense and reads like the stream-of-consciousness ramblings of a demented racist. You quote Obama taking pop shots at the GOP (shocking!) and then try to tie in the race card because he spoke to a black group and urged them to be politically active on his behalf? So black people can’t participate in politics without the image of a black nationalist uprising springing to your mind? And this ‘code’ plea for revolution helps Obams how? By alienating 90% of the US population? Someone really needs to take your computer away before you further embarrass yourself.

Nan G

I especially love this:

“Tell them we have more work to do.”

That’s rich.

Creating more unemployed?

Obama Plays The Race Card Again

In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue.

@DrJohn, you are leaping to conclusions because you have not been following the backroom strategy laid down by the WH a month or so ago. Obama and his staff regularly uses “the other side” for what they are labeling “the enemy” in their speeches. It’s another of his “let me be clear” staples.

i.e.

“People are frustrated and they’re angry and they’re anxious about the future,” Obama told a supportive crowd near Cleveland. “I understand that. I also understand that in a political campaign, the easiest thing for the other side to do is to ride this fear and anger all the way to Election Day — and that’s happening right now.”

from US Today, Sept 8th, 2010

From July of this year, when Obama was in Missouri:

“This is a choice between the policies that got us into this mess in the first place, and the policies that are getting us out of this mess,” Obama told about 1,000 Democratic donors in Kansas City. “And what the other side is counting on is people not having a very good memory.”

Or, from Gibbs, previewing Obama’s campaigning for Coakley in MA, Jan 2010:

“I think the president sees a pretty clear distinction between a candidate in Martha Coakley, who’s going to fight for Massachusetts, and a candidate on the other side, who feels comfortable fighting for the insurance industry and big banks,” Mr. Gibbs said, offering a preview of the president’s message on Sunday.

So I’ll see your “innocent” accusation, and raise you one.. that you are under researched, and it is actually *you* who is unduly playing the race card because that’s what you want to see.

Now, there are definitely times when Obama will play that card… but this ain’t one of ’em, guy. And you do conservatives no good when you see racist remarks behind every comment. The phrase you wish to attach your “star” to is a common one for all that Obama see as “the enemy”.

Oh yes… let’s not forget the most important one from Aug of this year.. This is another article where the WH and DNC were laying out their midterm strategy campaign of GOP “fear”.

The Democratic strategy is to make the Nov. 2 elections a choice between competing visions, rather than a referendum on Obama administration policies and Democratic leadership. On one side, the Democrats argue, is a mainstream party pursuing forward-thinking policies to benefit the middle class; on the other are extremist Republicans pushing a return to the unpopular policies of the previous administration.

“The question we’re going to have in this election is whether we’re going to continue down a path of creating greater opportunity, making that opportunity available to all people — are we going to become more competitive in this 21st-century economy — or are we going to go backwards to the exact same policies that got us into this mess in the first place?” Obama said Monday during a fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee at a private Dallas residence.

“And if you don’t think that’s what the choice is, you haven’t been paying attention to what the other side is offering for November,” Obama continued. “What they’re counting on in this election is amnesia. They’re counting on you not remembering the disastrous consequences of economic policies that, by the way, had caused problems for working-class families, for middle-class families, before the recession hit, before the crisis hit.”

But of course, you want to hear black and white voters instead of parties…. get with the program, drjohn. We all look like fools when everyone screams “race!” when it’s not.

And the hits just keep on a’comin’… Obama from an article on Sept 8th.

The president is balancing his personal story with an increasingly aggressive tone toward congressional Republicans. One administration official said Obama will focus on the “divergent paths” the two parties are proposing this fall for the economy.

“What’s being offered on the other side offers absolutely no hope for recovery — it’s basically a going-back to some of the old nostrums that got us into this problem and sitting down and hoping for a better result,” one official said. “That’s not what we can afford to do as a country”

Now… what was that you said again, drjohn? Something about… “I cannot recall another time he could not name the “other side.” I hear Ginkgo Biloba is good for what ails you…. if not, perhaps you’d like to reintroduce yourself to Google before you slam out the reader posts?

@Old Trooper 2, odd you bring that up. I heard from a friend of mine today that called and said Powell was praising the Zero on MTP. Then I run across this article while I’m surfing, call him back and say… but Politico says he was criticizing him!?

I guess, what it boils down to, is people like to hear what they want to hear. So when you post a bogus headline that Obama’s playing the race card.. when he isn’t… everyone will remember just the bogus headline or snippets they want to hear. Just as my friend didn’t want to hear Powell’s criticism of Obama, and focused on his praise.

Shall we make a list of the questionable cards being routinely played by republican strategists? Such cards comprise a good portion of the entire deck. Those often played of late seem to relate to irrational fears, angers, and biases that we’d probably be a better nation without.

Here are some more DrJohn:

May 21, 2009 – Notre Dame commencement:

“Is it possible for us to join hands in common effort? As citizens of a vibrant and varied democracy, how do we engage in vigorous debate? How does each of us remain firm in our principles, and fight for what we consider right, without demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side?

Apr 2, 2010 – Interview with CBS News:

In a brief interview with “The Early Show” co-anchor Harry Smith Thursday before they shot some hoops on the White House basketball court, Mr. Obama called the extreme nature of some of the barbs directed his way on conservative talk shows “troublesome.” He also said he’s “concerned about a political climate in which the other side is demonized” – an observation meant for both Republicans and Democrats.

Sept 13, 2010 – Backyard town hall in Fairfax, VA:

Asked about the likelihood that he could be faced with a remarkably different Congress after the midterm elections, the president said that one of the areas where both parties can work together is on the issue of long-term debt.

“I have to say that I understand a lot of people who are upset on the other side — and some of them were rallying in — in D.C. today — or — or yesterday — I do understand people’s legitimate fears about are we hawking our future to because we’re borrowing so much to finance debt and deficits. I understand that. You know, they saw the recovery act, they saw TARP, they saw the auto bailout, and they — they — they look at this and all these big, huge numbers adding up.

Sept 17, 2010 – Obama speech at Blumenthal fundraiser in CT:

Across the board, we are making progress. Now, I’m making this point for two reasons. Number one, the changes we’ve made are ones that will take some time to bear fruit. And folks who are out of work right now, whose homes are underwater right now, who are trying to figure out how to pay the bills or send their kids to college right now — they don’t have five or 10 years to wait. And so we’ve got to still work very hard in the short term to dig ourselves out of this enormous hole.

And that’s why having public servants like Dick Blumenthal in Washington is so important. Because the other side, all they are going to be feeding us is anger and resentment and not a lot of new ideas. But that’s a potent force when people are scared and they’re hurting. And so for all of you to support candidates like Dick all across the country is absolutely vital — because our job is not yet finished. And the agenda of the other side is essentially to roll back progress that we’ve made. And they’re doing so, by the way, not just by self-financed candidates like the one here in Connecticut, but because of the Supreme Court decision from the Roberts’ Court called the Citizens United, you now have special interests spending — outspending candidates and parties all across America — spending millions of dollars without disclosing who they’re spending it — who they are and what interests lie behind all these negative TV ads.

Basically, you can nail Obie on his hypocrisy if you like, but you cannot call his phraseology race based.

drjohn, even the MSNBC article knew he was referring to the GOP. Probably because it’s been a campaign phrase that’s a staple for their assault, and nothing new to most of us. I understand that you took it a different way, and I tried to point it out to you because I’ve been watching how the DNC planned on waging their midterms war for some time now.

If you get the war room political strategy… demonize the conservatives as extreme, bigoted and inept… you’ll realize that you need to be your own “Arbiter of All Things Considered Good For Conservatives”. Everything bloggers or conservative media say or pounce upon as representative of the conservative view is just fodder for their campaign. And they’ll be happy to take it and run with it.

Stay on focus with the issues, and don’t dream up imaginary stuff. We conservatives have enough on Obama/Pelosi/Reid with their policies and spending for issues, and don’t need to play the dupe by being exactly that of which they accuse. Just exercise some common sense and good ol’ fashioned news archival surfing before leaping to conclusions. We need all conservatives focused on “the economy, stupid”, and not falling prey to silly traps that are designed to portray us in a bad light.

The real issues here are neither race or religion regarding the performance of the Current Regime.

As Powell noted it is the Economy and Jobs. The Regime consists of folks that neither have run a business or worked in the private sector and are basically academic types or economic illiterates.

They have grown the deficit by huge leaps and bounds but have no experience of any practical nature in the business world and that is the real Obama Legacy as I see it.

No one holding Any Elected Office should be above criticism as they collect a tax payer funded wage and those not responsive to the taxpayer need replacement by the taxpayer/voter. All of the rhetoric in the world is just nonsense when Private Industry is over regulated as part of a”social experiment” that has shown zero progress.

The Voters just picked the wrong folks to run States and the Nation. Period. I hired three new Hands last month, bought more stock and will prudently manage my spread. I do not need a bail out or any more regulation. I want a smaller Gummint that operates within it’s Constitutionally Enumerated Powers and keeps it’s hands to itself.

Too much to ask for? I think not.
😉

It’s been raining here for the past week, every day and night. I’m up at OP#3, away from the house and reading the comments here. Yeah, a campfire would be swell with grand company, some spirits and discussion but tonight it would be a wet one. It’s about 45F outside but pretty keen in the bunkhouse by the fireplace while the boot rack is full of footwear that is drying.

We had our First Post Racial President and a Congress that has done it’s level best to outspend any previous Congress to no avail. The Voters just picked the Wrong Folks to run the Nation and that should be admitted and owned up to. No real jobs have been created in the private sector so lets knock off the BS about transformation and progress. Lets tell Gummint to stop meddling with things that are not Gummint Business and balance spending with revenue. How about them apples?

And NO, I’m not running for Office. I just want responsible Folks to work within the scope of THEIR employment and stop the Meddling and any New Programs that We as a Nation do not need and can’t afford. For me it was never about Race, it was All about Competence and I have not seen it yet from this Current Regime.

BTW, I do consider the CBC to be a racist organization. I want a Non Hyphenated America.
The CBC is divisive and should be dissolved if we ever want racism to go away.

Couldn’t agree more about the CBC, OT. But then, still doesn’t justify the mischaracterization here.

I sometimes laugh about how well a sister station to “Black Entertainnment Television” (BET) would fare in the media. yeah… “white entertainment television”. Oh wait… let’s really make it controversial. How about MET… Muslim Entertainment Television. 😈

Humans… we’re getting weirder as time goes on. Sometimes I think there’s “too” much information coming down. Or would that be too much MISinformation. And every bit of it is designed to divide humanity along race, gender, religious or national classes.

Well…no matter what side you’re on…this is going to be a very interesting election. The Dems will seek to demonize the Tea Party while the Repubs may seek to distance themselves from them.

Crazy election coming up.

You got it, Dayton… the good news is *some* of us actually have a choice in an election this year. It’s not Dem vs Dem-lite. The bad news is the GOP is busy shooting itself in the foot with all too many playing the spoiler early in the game. So reconciliation between conservatives/tea party/indys/Reagan Democrats is integral to battle both the Alinsky Dem attack machine *and* the mainstay GOP.

Stuff that works…
Take away His ATM Card…

GOP Aims to Erode White House Agenda

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/09/19/gop-aims-erode-white-house-agenda/

“We need to establish the proverbial lines in the sand and show we are serious about limited government,” said Wisconsin’s Rep. Paul Ryan, a leading conservative who is in line to chair the House budget committee if Republicans take control.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704416904575501782138298328.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLETopStories

In a nod to the 1994 contract, Minority Leader John Boehner and other top Republicans plan to unveil more initiatives in coming weeks. One will be a requirement, pushed by tea-party activists, that all legislation cite its constitutional authority.

Imagine that? Enumerated Powers according to the US Constitution as written.
Anyone got a problem with that? The US Treasury is not an ATM because it ain’t Their Money!.

Lets face it Folks, the Spending is quite frankly NOT sustainable unless you want taxes that would choke a mule. Let it be understood that there is No Free Ice Cream.

When I looked at Obama’s words to the Congressional Black Caucus I saw him falling back, not so much on race, as on his familiar Straw Man Fallacy.

One of Obama’s most often used ”arguments” is really just the Straw Man Fallacy.

He makes the claim that ”the other side” believes “X” or “Y” or “Z” when it is not true.
Then he shoots down their supposed argument (which is easy since it is NOT their REAL argument).

For example, with health care reform Obama’s Straw Man was that his opponents wanted to have NO REFORM.
And, gee, we all know how bad that would be, right?

Now with these Congressional Black Caucus members Obama’s Straw Man is that the other side has a plan ”to turn back the clock on every bit of progress we’ve made.”

Every bit?
Really?
Like voting rights for women and blacks?
Like integrated schools?
Like what?

Nice job of creating a straw man with a vague frame.

Obama is framing a vague thought, letting his audience fill in whatever they might as the actual picture, then they will conclude that he and they are all in ”this” together.

Fact is, Obama’s supporters don’t have any idea what Obama was specifically referring to.
Because he was NOT specific.

But they feel as though they MUST agree with Obama.
When they fill in the blank frame they know they must agree with him.

After all, if they don’t, they risk losing every bit of progress they’ve ever made!

Nan,

You’ve just encapsulated Obama and his campaign and term as Present of the US entirely.
He frames an empty concept and hopes people will fill in the hollow parts with something they like or don’t like, that aligns them with him. But all the time he hasn’t actually said anything.

I’ve been trying to come up with an expression or term for his method. Something more than hollow promise, inflated rhetoric, or empty words. Something like “Calculated Void Speak”. Because what he leaves out is carefully calculated to be *understood* by the individual but not material enough to be an held accountable.

Give States a Tool to Check Federal Power

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2010/sep/19/ed-mora19-ar-511703/?referer=None&shorturl=http://timesdispatch.com/ar/511703/

There are risks associated with action, but history has shown there are times when the cost of inaction is far greater. Our founders risked their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor because they understood the alternative was far worse — no longer being free men.

Today we face the same risk: We are no longer free and sovereign states.

A majority of states have introduced some version of a state sovereignty resolution based on the 10th amendment, grasping at symbolic straws telling the federal government to stop usurping their authority. These resolutions are currently being used as mere doorstops in Congress. They have no enforceable legal meaning because the federal government has long ago seized the power the states were originally meant to retain.

WTF . . . I think Obastard was talking about Kurdistan . . . as far as I am concerned they are the “other side”. When are you people going to get it . . . it is just more of Obamy-stink that is applied to everything this group does. Don’t you understand that by using such broad scope terms without naming a specific enemy Obscure-ama can direct YOUR attention to what ever YOU want to be the enemy. The term means only the enemy or “other side” that YOU as individuals chose what is to be the other side. I would have to agree that in the perspective of the CBC it COULD be a racially biased perspective . . . but it could also mean the GOP . . . or even in the minds of those visualizing a localized group . . . that each person has a “virtual unlimited mind filled with sides” that each can chose to be the other side. It is just another one of the PC ratholes into which Obie-Imam wants YOU to descend into. It means nothing except he can talk and read at the same time. It is a hate creating term . . . wanting each of us to view something with such strong emotions that we will rise to VOTE for Obie-fuhrer. Thus, allowing the continuation of the policies of the “unknown and unidentified” . . . this my friends is the road to distruction!!

STOP EVALUATING THIS POTUS ON WHAT HE SAYS . . . EVALUATE ON WHAT HE HAS DONE!!!

Tallgrass: STOP EVALUATING THIS POTUS ON WHAT HE SAYS . . . EVALUATE ON WHAT HE HAS DONE!!!

Exactly…. because with the campaign strategy centering around avoiding specific chit chat on what he and Congress have wrought, voters need to be reminded daily about the fiscal repercussions of the spending, the legislation, and the regulations that are being worked up even now in the back room of the agencies.

The race card is about the only one left in Husseins deck. Of course, the union thug card might come in handy on election day as SEIU types do some aggressive “poll watching.”

You mean to tell us the jivemaster is a racist? Afraid so.

Post#21 “Dems will seek to demonize the Tea Party.” Is a witch a demon?

Just askin

Is a cocaine user a cokehead?

Just askin….

#34 Your point being?

Your point being?

Could be something to do with the guy you voted for in 2008.

A.C. Obama did coke ,I did coke,my fraternity brother GWB( D.K.E. Yale 1968)did coke.

What’s that got to do with O’Donnell dabbling in witchcraft and having a picnic on a satanic alter?

What’s that got to do with O’Donnell dabbling in witchcraft and having a picnic on a satanic alter?

Are you really this dense?

If you’re gonna bring up stupid acts done in the past do you really expect us not to bring up those same stupid acts committed by someone you voted for?

GWB( D.K.E. Yale 1968)did coke

Please cite the source proving this?

rich wheeler, IT’s got nothing to do, what is it to you,
It was a good movie

@rich wheeler:

I did coke

That explains a lot right there rich.

It really does.

Bonus question: Which was legal… O’Donnell very briefly dating someone who practiced witchcraft or Obie snorting coke?

Didn’t liberals insist that Wiccans be allowed to have their symbol on their military graves just like Christians and Jews?

Aren’t most Wiccans, witches and warlocks liberals?

I think it was very open-minded of this young girl to date a warlock or whatever he said he was.

I also think it is funny how often liberals throw their own constituent parts under the bus IF members of those parts start thinking for themselves and leave the liberal camp.

Look at gay conservatives.
From the liberal POV, if gays choose to be conservatives, they MUST be ”self-hating” gays.

Look at blacks.
From a liberal POV, when blacks choose conservatism, they are ”only partly black,” or worse, ”house slaves” as opposed to ”field slaves.”

Look at women.
From the liberal POV, women who choose conservatism are (well, they put a Hitler mustache on Sarah).

So, now we’re going to learn (probably) that there are some conservatives who dabble in witchcraft and/or are Wiccans.
Big surprise!

I’d be more surprised if there weren’t.

(It is getting to be an awfully lumpy ride on Obama’s bus, isn’t it?)

Obama dabbled in coke (and perhaps more than dabbled. One might even opine that given his marxist proclivities permanent damage has occurred.)

The Kennedy’s still dabble in alcohol (OK they don’t dabble, they’re fully engaged.)

Democrats dabble in ethics violations and bribery (and that’s NOW)

A.C I’ve never claimed to be a Puritan. Haven’t touched it since 1985 and to W’s credit my Drunkin Deke brother( SR. and Quayle were also D.K.E’S) has been clean and sober since 1986.

My point on O’Donnell was merely a play on demonization by Dems and her admitted daillance in witchcraft.Didn’t mean to raise a firestorm.

RW,

What’s your point about someone who explored Paganism?

Are you saying that someone who investigated pagan beliefs when they were young should be summarily disqualified from all political offices? Why would *YOU* say that. Why would *YOU* be so discriminatory.

Are you saying that *YOU* think someone who is Wiccian should be denied their constitutional right to be considered for office, or just that you support using religion as a litmus test for who should be voted for?

I’ve never claimed to be a Puritan….Didn’t mean to raise a firestorm.

What’s the old saying? Something about glass houses and stones.

Photobucket

TSgt Cruz and Nan G. The fact she explored Paganism doesn’t bother me one bit. The voters of Delaware will decide if her ultra Conservative platform warrant’s their support.

Rich W. You are so exactly right.

We will all soon see if the platform she touts will cause too many moderates and Independents to stay at home…..or vote Democrat.

The 1st tracking poll of likely voters shows her behind Chris Coons.

Coons 53%
O’Donnell’s 42%, with leaners included
1% prefer ”some other candidate”
4% are undecided

O’Donnell dabbled in witchcraft but was never really a witch and has long disavowed it.

Obama dabbled in marxism and remains a marxist.

RW,

And you are just so concerned about the ultra conservatives that you are trying to make sure they don’t get fooled by someone who migh actually be more liberal than they think?

Is that it?

Your just doing those poor ultra conservatives a service?

I also think it is funny how often liberals throw their own constituent parts under the bus IF members of those parts start thinking for themselves and leave the liberal camp.

Nan, you’re all over the place, but I think the key thing you do not understand is that Liberals aren’t throwing witches under the bus because O’Donnell dabbled in witchcraft. Where are you seeing that? This is about the very real potential for blatant hypocrisy on this woman’s part. This isn’t a person who has reserved her personal religious beliefs as a private matter. She’s been very publically religious for years and her religious beliefs have informed her stances in such areas as sexuality and marriage. So this goes right to the heart of her credibility. And where is she to clear this up for everyone? Why cancel two interviews on Sunday where she could have put this to rest? Her campaign’s bungling of this matter is just another open question about her and her competency for the job.

A serious charge has been leveled against Ms. O’Donnell: that she’s been “using campaign funds for personal living expenses”. If true, spurned on by the Tea Party Express, many hard-working and well-meaning conservative donors have been unwittingly paying Ms. O’Donnell’s gas, grocery and bowling expenses while she chose not to have a job. Is that what’s referred to as ‘wealth redistribution’?

http://citizensforethics.org/crew-calls-for-odonnell-criminal-investigation

@Tom:

A serious charge has been leveled against Ms. O’Donnell

No, not so serious at all considering that paying herself a salary from campaign contributions is entirely legal and customary.

Just a note–Pols Gotta Eat: Delaware GOP Senate primary victor Christine O’Donnell has been accused of “living on campaign donations–using them for rent and personal expenses.” This might sound illegal but it’s not necessarily. Sure the Federal Election Commission regulations go on and on about how a campaign can’t use contributions to pay for the candidate’s personal expenses–including food and rent. But the regs explicitly allow candidates to pay themselves a salary (as long as it doesn’t exceed what they made “as earned income in the previous year”). Trust me, that’s a provision I was eyeing eagerly when I ran for Senate, though I never had enough surplus money to pay myself anything. … Given that candidates can pay themselves money and then use that money for personal expenses, I find it hard to get too worked up about O’Donnell’s alleged transgression. …

P.S.: Apparently the FEC woke up and realized that if you prevent candidates from paying themselves, and prevent friends from giving them money to live on, and prevent employers from giving them cushy no-show jobs, then only idle rich people could afford to be full-time candidates. … The downside of the “salary” rule is that it opens the door for professional loser candidates who run year after year, milking their small flock of die-hard contributors. … Hmmm. …

Aye,

According to the charges, she didn’t call it a ‘salary’ and thus didn’t declare it as income nor pay income taxes on it. Are you okay with that?

What she might have done or not is technical. This is peanuts.

Obama ripped off the entire country with his fraudulent donations- hundreds of millions of dollars and no one knows where any of it came from.

So I can’t get stirred up with this. Obama obliterated the rules.

Obama

Your predictability is so absolute, they could rewrite the laws of physics using “Drjohn” as a constant.
