Is She Canned or Retired For Expressing The White House View Of Israel Openly [Reader Post]

Helen Thomas, a staunch supporter for the Obama Administration in her role as a White House Press Corps (Corpse in Obama Speak) correspondent, has retired in light of her Freudian slip that revealed her antipathy for the Jewish people in Israel.

Although she later apologized for the remarks that seem to portray her anti-Jewish bigoted frame of reference she shares with the Obama administration.

This is the official statement from her employer, the Hearst Corporation for whom she has been a coloumnist:

WASHINGTON, June 7, 2010 – Helen Thomas announced Monday that she is retiring, effective immediately.

Her decision came after her controversial comments about Israel and the Palestinians were captured on videotape and widely disseminated on the Internet.

Thomas later issued a statement: “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.’’

Thomas will mark her 90th birthday on Aug. 4.

Clinton is wondering about the possibilities and Thomas is giddy

It is one thing for the press to be biased in their unbiased reporting, but once they are patently obvious with their bigotry, even someone who has concealed their personal bigotry for decades will be forced into voluntary retirement.  Ms Thomas started covering the White House during the Eisenhower administration and has covered every president since.

The announcement came after the White House Correspondents Association decried her remarks as “indefensible” and began to consider whether Thomas should continue to have the privilege of a front-row seat in the briefing room. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called her remarks “offensive and reprehensible” on Monday, as other former White House spokesmen called for Thomas to be fired.

President Obama weighed in on the Thomas affair with an insipid response that did nothing to reaffirm our commitment to our only reliable ally in the Middle East. Obama expresses more concern for  the foolish mistake of a propaganda reporter than he does for the insult paid to one of our strongest allies.

“The comments were offensive. It’s a shame because Helen was somebody who had been a correspondent through I don’t know how many presidents, was a real institution in Washington,” Obama told Matt Lauer in an interview that aired this morning on NBC’s “Today” show. “But I think she made the right decision. I think that those comments were out of line, and hopefully she recognizes that.
