Anyone would think we had just elected a hip, skinny and youthful replacement for God, with a plan to modernise Heaven and Hell – or that at the very least John Lennon had come back from the dead.
The swooning frenzy over the choice of Barack Obama as President of the United States must be one of the most absurd waves of self-deception and swirling fantasy ever to sweep through an advanced civilisation. At least Mandela-worship – its nearest equivalent – is focused on a man who actually did something.
I really don’t see how the Obama devotees can ever in future mock the Moonies, the Scientologists or people who claim to have been abducted in flying saucers. This is a cult like the one which grew up around Princess Diana, bereft of reason and hostile to facts.
It already has all the signs of such a thing. The newspapers which recorded Obama’s victory have become valuable relics. You may buy Obama picture books and Obama calendars and if there isn’t yet a children’s picture version of his story, there soon will be.
Proper books, recording his sordid associates, his cowardly voting record, his astonishingly militant commitment to unrestricted abortion and his blundering trip to Africa, are little-read and hard to find.
If you can believe that this undistinguished and conventionally Left-wing machine politician is a sort of secular saviour, then you can believe anything. He plainly doesn’t believe it himself. His cliche-stuffed, PC clunker of an acceptance speech suffered badly from nerves. It was what you would expect from someone who knew he’d promised too much and that from now on the easy bit was over.
He needn’t worry too much. From now on, the rough boys and girls of America’s Democratic Party apparatus, many recycled from Bill Clinton’s stained and crumpled entourage, will crowd round him, to collect the rich spoils of his victory and also tell him what to do, which is what he is used to.

In the end I believe the only thing the liberals are accomplishing with this embarrassing cult of Obama is setting themselves up for a huge disappointment. 1. If he really does cut the military, will my job be in jeopardy? From an employee at the base dining facility.
2. What do you mean the democrats want to take my 401K? From a co-worker in my shop.
3. Why is the stock market still going down? From my sister-in law.
4. But, but, but, he said we woould be getting a tax cut/rebate check, now he’s trying to lower our expectations? From everybody else very soon.
The looks of utter bewilderment on the faces of those who supported Obama has caused near insane giggles to bubble up inside me since the day the hangovers began on Nov 5, 2008, often spilling out into gales of raucus laughter. By the end of thursday Nov 6, my ribs were aching from the growing tales of surprise, and dissapiontment. It’s almost too hillarious for words.
Who knew the election of his imperial majesty, the lord barack hussien obama, would create so much humor, and mirth in my life. While watching my beloved country flirt with the nightmare of socialism is terrifying in the extreame, it may be fun to observe the dawning realization of the willfully ignorant, that no salvation will be forthcomming from the government. I’m not a religious person, but I thank what ever great being that sees over us that I was able to grow up in, live and be a part of what I believe is the real America. Yes we have had a conservative President for 8 years, but it is not conservative ideas that has caused such a political split within our country. The main reason that the Bush Administration is such a villain is simply the war in Iraq. To my way of thinking, if you take all the issues wrap them up and shake them out, it was Iraq that was at the heart of the election loss and “flipped this country upside down”.
Obama did not get a mandate, it was 52% to 48%. The problem that we are going to face lies with the imbalance of power within congress. When a majority of congress is liberal, making it almost filibuster proof, and the President is also liberal, this greatly diminishes the American democratic process. What has made us strong is the checks and balances within the government to keep one party from ramming home their political agenda. The same would be true if there were an overwhelming conservative majority in congress with a conservative President.

He took office in a recession (ironically like Obama), and he used tax cuts to end it. Then America was attacked on 911 (say it w me Obama fans, “It happened on his watch” ’cause everyone who didn’t vote for Obama’s gonna be saying it a lot). He inherited a war w Al Queda that had started years earlier. He inherited a simmering war w Saddam Hussein that had to be resolved one way or the other. He was faced with insane partisan opposition from his first day, and other than after 911 he was never very popular=never really capable of a lot via legislation etc.
The Bush years were not the worst in American history. They had their ups and downs (bigtime), but the President Obama will face them too-and more. Where will his support go when Pres Obama faces them and actually makes real decisions-decisions (to quote Rahm Emanuel) between worse and worst?

Obama can talk about taxing the rich and giving to the middle class all he wants, but if he taxes the top 5-10% of Americans, he still won’t have enough money to make his campaign promises come true. Additionally, a nation just doesn’t get out of a recession (particularly a recession rooted in financial institution collapse) by taxing the people and entities that do the most investing. Obama’s got a very good and skilled economic team, and I give him credit for that, but my bet is that the reason he’s hitting executive orders as his first target when taking office is because that’s all he can do. He can tell dems on The Hill to do all kinds of things in his SOTU, and he can make all the campaign promises he wants, but there’s no money to do em. Once he tells Congress to do em, he’ll wipe his hands of the deal, blame Bush (just as Republicans blamed Clinton in 2001), and that will be that. From that failure point on (timeline I’m guessing puts that mid/late summer 09), Obama’s admin will take actions that are his, and he’ll face scenarios that are HIS.
Democrats have a history from the past 10 or so years of making promises, getting power, making a list of excuses, doing some finger-pointing, and then selling sizzle to get re-elected. Herein lies the catch22: the “it’s Bush’s fault” excuse is already super-thin, and will increasingly get less supportive. With absolute power, Obama and the Democrats will not be as able to point fingers etc for their campaign lies. That’s a long list too.
In his dem nom acceptance speech alone, Obama made almost 30 promises-most of which require money, and there just isn’t gonna be money to do em.

Thanks to all the wise comments that I have read on this page. I have not fully supported every that Bush has done the last 8 years especially regarding the war in Iraq, but I cannot understand the unadulterated, unmitigated, irrational hatred coming from his adversaries. These have truly been eight years of ups and downs, economic good times and bad times. I will be coming often to this blog to read comments tempered by wisdom and fairness.
Obama’s lack of relevant experience and the now unchecked onesided Congress is making me very nervous for the coming years. They all seem determined to force an economic system on us that many of us know to have been proven a failure repeatedly in history. But I have hope in the fact that 57 million of us used our brains and are all still here to get each other through them.
