Supplies of natural gas could last more than 250 years if Asian and European economies follow the U.S. unconventional reserves, the IEA said.

The abundance of shale gas and other forms of so-called unconventional gas discovered in the United States prompted a global rush to explore for the new resource.

The International Energy Agency said Australia is taking the lead in the push toward unconventional gas, though China, India and Indonesia are close behind. European companies are taking preliminary steps to unlock unconventional gas as are other regions.

250 years. 10 generations. Are they saying that our children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s will run out of natural resources? Oh the humanity.
Side note the Marcellus shale deposits in Northern PA and the Southern tier of NY have estimates of bizillions of cubic feet of shale gas. They are actively drilling and developing this resource in PA and pumping millions into the local economies. Not so in NY too many anti non renewable resource activists with tenure and secure jobs that so far do not depend on the market forces.

Worrying about what might happen in 250 years reminds me of the 1899 ”futurists” who were trying to predict the big problems for the year 1999 only 100 years into the future.

Guess what they thought would be our BIGGEST problem.

LOL (in advance)

They were quite worried about what we were going to do with all the horse poop!

LOL!

I think we should let 250 years from now take care of itself.
They will have a heck of a laugh at our expense, if Yellowstone doesn’t blow.

Never a word of what Canada does with shale gas. The whole of Alberta is sitting on coal. The City of Medicine Hat sells its own natural gas to consumers. Of course, the feds are taxing the hell out of them, because Medicine Hat consumers shouldn’t be that lucky.
I know that the USA basically shut down shale gas recovery during the 80’s and 90’s. It was a terrible mistake and then imported energy skyrocketed.
Nobody wants to be the terminus of imported liquid natural gas. This is another huge mistake.
Yup, nary a word about Alberta, that has been doing this recovery for over 50 years and will be the world leader in natural gas supply because of renewed drilling and world class technology. We never shut this down and continue to this day.
