Obama 2006: Don’t you hate it when politicians use terrorism as a wedge issue in elections?

Stirring words from a guy who’s now running for reelection on the idea that Mitt Romney wouldn’t have had the balls to order a hit on Osama Bin Laden. And note the applause he gets for saying it. O will take heat for this clip because it showcases his hypocrisy but all he was doing at the time was playing along with a charade created by Democratic voters. They pretended they were strongly anti-war and anti-Gitmo and anti-executive overreach and anti-”politics of fear” when all they really were was strongly anti-Bush. So Obama, who was already thinking of running for president (it’s no coincidence that these remarks were delivered in Iowa), flattered them by spouting the platitudinous nonsense they wanted to hear on the assumption that they’d forget all about it once he was safely in office. How’d that work out for him? It’s almost too bad that Bush didn’t think to target Awlaki with drones before leaving office since no doubt there’d be some golden soundbites from the Unicorn Prince at the time denouncing “King George” and the “unaccountable presidency,” etc. And his base would have cheered him all the way. Don’t hate O just because he had the good sense to exploit a political scam when he saw one.

Since we’re on the subject of Al Qaeda and Afghanistan, remember how he sold the troop drawdown last night in part by touting the prospect of reconciliation with the Taliban? Here’s how that’s going on their end:

Facts are terrific things.
No wonder Obama avoids them like the plague.
Here are a few of his Afghanistan war facts:

*Obama has overseen the nearly 11-year Afghanistan War for less than four years, almost 70% of all U.S. military casualties have come during the Obama presidency.

*Nearly 100 American soldiers have died in Afghanistan in the last 122 days alone.

*Obama has not made a substantive statement on the Afghanistan conflict for nearly ONE YEAR.

*The document Obama signed with Afghan President Hamid Karzai is a meaningless basic agreement to talk later about forging a real agreement.

*For all his screaming about the war on women here, Obama is throwing Afghani women to the wolves of the taliban.

Nan-
Your last sentence is what most makes me want to scream in frustration about this whole thing.
Where is the concern for women under the Taliban?
I was in Afghanistan when the Russians were there.
Women went to college, many even studying at universities in Russia.
Women could be doctors, or anything else that they could achieve.
Under the Mujahedin, women could not learn anything medical.
And they could not be treated by a male doctor.
So if they got sick, they died.
There was so much more evil done to women under the Mujahedin, I can’t begin to tell it all.
But I saw it for myself.
I saw things as they happened for myself. Still have nightmares.
And the world just doesn’t seem to care.

Side note:
I was at an art show, discussing things with an artist. A bystander asked me, “Oh, you were with the Mujahedin?” He sounded a bit excited.
I responded, “Those savages? Hell no, I was with the Russians.”
He just turned and walked away. Didn’t want to hear anything that would tarnish his image of those wonderful, brave, “freedom fighters”. Rather stay all warm and cozy, wrapped up in his ignorance.

If the choice is between soldiers and savages, I’m with the soldiers. No matter what uniform they wear. At least soldiers are under some kind of discipline.

Sorry. I tend to run on a bit when I’m sad.

What I believe is important to the successful ouster of the 0-bama regime will be for the Republicans to remain focused on those critical issues that impact all Americans. From my perspective this would include a failed economy, our unemployment rate to include lost jobs to the American economy, our national debt, the failure to produce constitutional and cost-effective health care reform, and the massive number of pure scandals of the 0-bama administration to include so-called green energy companies like Solyndra and finally the Fast and Furious disaster. Yes there are secondary issues but 0-bama will exploit those to divert attention away from his failures. Distort, deceive, and distract is his strategy.
