Jolly sinks Sink

Loading

Republican David Jolly defeated Democrat Alex Sink in the special election to fill Florida’s 13th district on Tuesday night, delivering a stinging blow to Democrats that underscores their vulnerability to ObamaCare attacks.

With all precincts reporting, Jolly topped Sink 48.4 percent to 46.5 percent, winning by 3,417 votes. Libertarian Lucas Overby took nearly 5 percent of the vote.

Sink’s loss in the race to succeed the late Rep. Bill Young (R-Fla.) was seen by Republicans as evidence the political winds are blowing hard against Democrats in their uphill pursuit of the 17 seats they’ll need to take back the House.

“Tonight, one of Nancy Pelosi’s most prized candidates was ultimately brought down because of her unwavering support for ObamaCare, and that should be a loud warning for other Democrats running coast to coast,” National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden (Ore.) said in a statement.

A swing district held by a Republican but won by President Obama in 2012, Florida’s 13th district is exactly the playing field Democrats need to win in this cycle to be successful. Democrats pointed out that the special election turnout would always trend GOP, and they downplayed their loss on Tuesday evening.

How many times did we hear from democrats about how they were going to win this one….?

But…I thought Americans were so enamored of obamacare that republicans running against it were bou d to lose!

The Race Democrats Can’t Afford to Lose
It’s rare in politics that anything other than a presidential contest is viewed as a “must win” — but the special election in Florida’s 13th District falls into that category for Democrats.

A loss in the competitive March 11 contest would almost certainly be regarded by dispassionate observers as a sign that President Barack Obama could constitute an albatross around the neck of his party’s nominees in November. And that could make it more difficult for Democratic candidates, campaign committees and interest groups to raise money and energize the grass roots.

Well, oops!
Debbie W-S is positively dizzy from spinning!
Although Sink outspent Jolly almost 4 to 1 to assure victory she is pretending that the opposite occurred.
Heh.

Republican David Jolly defeated Democrat Alex Sink in the special election to fill Florida’s 13th district on Tuesday night, delivering a stinging blow to Democrats that underscores their vulnerability to ObamaCare attacks.

What this underscores is the political motivation republicans have for continuing to lie the public about ObamaCare.

David Jolly was a professional lobbyist, working in Washington for Van Scoyoc Associates. That company’s primary business is getting government appropriations for private interests. (That is, turning taxpayer money into some private interest’s money.) He left that company to found his own lobbying corporation, Three Bridges Advisors, Inc. He has removed his own name from the lobbyist register to run for Congress.

I was amused by the following, from PolitiFact, Florida. I do appreciate Jolly’s sense of humor:

Jolly has maintained that paying both Democrats and Republicans is the cost of doing business as a lobbyist. “My giving has always followed my personal relationships,” he told PolitiFact Florida. He said in the case of Democrats, the contributions were for candidates and Congress members in races that weren’t close and had defense and national security priorities that matched his own.

It’s been noted in coverage of the 13th Congressional District race as well as the mailing in question that Jolly hadn’t given any money to Young, which Jolly confirms is true. But it wasn’t for a lack of trying, he said.

“I actually gave him money, and he did not accept it,” Jolly added, repeating a favored anecdote about Young literally tearing up the check. He said he often worked to get money for Young by organizing host committees for fundraisers.

Learned from the 2013 Liar of the Year

@Greg: Your comments (previous to this too) make me believe you would be very happy living in a socialist/communist society. There are other countries that could grant your wish.

Jolly’s win comes as the RNC is $10 million in the black:

Not only is the DNC is moving money around, but it is strapped for cash so taking out loans.

“America’s Labor Bank” (Amalgamated) lent Dems $15 million in 2012.
Democrats owe their political careers to unions, their national committee (the DNC) also owes unions more cash than they actually have on hand.
(I wonder how the Dems can ever pay the unions back?)

@Greg: For you to accuse Republicans about lie with respect to 0-blamacare is a joke!! It was the Democrats and 0-blama who lied from the start. 0-blama told America that if you like your insurance and/or doctor you can keep it “period”!! You can’t even acknowledge that he lied!!

What this underscores is the political motivation republicans have for continuing to lie the public about ObamaCare.

What exactly are Republicans lying about with regards to ObamaCare?

You do realize of course, that PolitiFact has been discredited, right?

I guess you liberals only approve of this when it goes the other way; taxpayer money going into Obama’s coffers.

Then, there’s this:

Even wanted criminals can pay off Obama with campaign contributions to get the DOJ to look the other way.

Just think how much soap and water Alex Sink had to use to wash the Bill Clinton off in addition to having to endure an embarrassing the loss to a lesser known, less well funded opponent.

I wonder how much money was given by the Dems to have the Libertarian run and split the vote. Even that failed.
Sink got the moocher vote but there was nothing to mooch. How much “help” to Slick Willy bring?

For the hey of it… I went onto my State website. On it are various sites regarding healthcare. One of them geared you towards what else? – obamacare. I went in and poked around, I quickly left the site because I quickly developed a major headache!!

My God! If you open up one “title” page, you get 15 + pages of ‘reading’ and all the ‘reading’ just drones on and on…exactly like the Ofraud himself. There is a gazillion variations of status (where ‘you’ fit in in the scheme of things). Yikes!

Funny, but, not ha ha funny – Our own politicians (save a few) have even bothered to read this when it was first implemented and who knows if they even got around to it 4 years later. Yet, YET we are ‘forced’ into the time consuming navigation of this headache… You think Pelosi has since read it?? Ugh!

I’m seeing hope on the horizon..

@Kraken, #8:

I get the impression that some people automatically discredit all media sources that disagree with them. The anathema list has become very long. Soon it will be easier just to list the approved outlets.

I think PolitiFact has their facts straight on this one. Jolly’s lobbyist activities are common knowledge. Both the lobbying firm he previously worked for and the one he founded himself describe their services on their own websites. He acknowledges having personally donated to the campaigns of both republicans and democrats. I’ll give the guy points for being honest and straightforward about his background.

@Greg: In Virginia, Democrats contributed to the Libertarian in order to get the Clinton lackey, McAuliffe a chance. I think the phrase is, “the ends justifies the means”, especially when the left is plying their dirty trade.

Some people do, yes, but PolitiFact has a spurious reputation on both sides. One may as well cite the group high school student essays posted on WikiPedia.

Regardless, what exactly are Republicans lying about with regards to ObamaCare? Hum?
