Civil rights leadership then and now

Martin Luther King Jr.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

On Rosa Parks:

“We cannot in clear conscience turn back in our struggle for justice. We have no moral choice but to continue the struggle.”

Al Sharpton:

White folks was [sic] in caves while we was building empires…. We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.”

But resist, we MUCH – we must and we will much about that be committed”

On Rosa Parks:

“Rosa Parks wasn’t no ho, and Fannie Lou Hamer wasn’t no bitch.”

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.

On the murder of Chris Lane, the Aussie baseball player, by those three would-be gangstas……

Praying for the family of Chris Lane.
This senseless violence is frowned upon and the justice system must prevail.

Rev Jesse Jackson Sr

@Nan G:

“Frowned upon” Jesse? That’s as as bad as Obama saying essentially that it was “unfortunate” that there were less deaths by terrorism compared with automobile fatalities. How would the Martin family have felt if Jackson had said violence such as the self-defense shooting of their son should be “frowned upon”.
