Politically Incorrect with the Broken-Down Clock…

broken clock

I missed this over the weekend, but have been listening to talk radio replay the clips today:

Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time Friday made a statement that will make the Right cheer as the left predictably cringes.

After his guest Brian Levin – the director of the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino – said of the Boston bombings and how it relates to radical Islam, “We have hypocrites across faiths, Jewish, Christian who say they’re out for God and end up doing not so nice things,” Maher marvelously responded, “That’s liberal bulls–t right there”

Transcript:

BILL MAHER, HOST: So you’re obviously the perfect person to have here today. You study this all the time, the mind of crazy people who do horrible things. I’m always interested to know how people like the people we caught today up in Boston can have two minds going at the same time. I mean, if you read what the older brother wrote on his, on the internet, he said his world view: Islam. Personal priorities: career and money. And we see this a lot. I mean, the 9/11 hijackers went to strip clubs the night before they got on the plane.

BRIAN LEVIN, DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF HATE AND EXTREMISM AT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, SAN BERNADINO: Could I just interject? Look, it’s not like people who are Muslim who do wacky things have a monopoly on it. We have hypocrites across faiths, Jewish, Christian who say they’re out for God and end up doing not so nice things.

MAHER: You know what? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what? That’s, that’s liberal bullshit right there. I mean, yes, all faiths…

LEVIN: There are no Christian hypocrites?

MAHER: No, there are.

LEVIN: You make a career on that.

MAHER: They just, they’re not as dangerous. I mean, there’s only one faith, for example, that kills you or wants to kill you if you draw a bad cartoon of the prophet. There’s only one faith that kills you or wants to kill you if you renounce the faith. An ex-Muslim is a very dangerous thing. Talk to Salman Rushdie after the show about Christian versus Islam. So, you know, I’m just saying, let’s keep it real.

LEVIN: Well, I guess I have a girl for you, Pam Geller you could maybe meet. No, I really disagree with you.

MAHER: I don’t know what that means.

LEVIN: Well, she’s an Islamaphobe. But, no I…

So Pam Geller is the immoral equivalent to homicide bombers and religious beheaders?! Wha-?!

MAHER: I’m not an Islamaphobe. That’s wrong. I am a truth lover. All religions are not alike. As many people have pointed out, “The Book of Mormon.” Did you see the show?

LEVIN: No, it’s hard to get tickets.

MAHER: Okay, can you imagine if they did “The Book of Islam?” Could they do that? There’s only one religion that threatens violence and carries it out for things like that. Could they do “The Book of Islam” on Broadway?

LEVIN: Possibly so.

MAHER: Possibly so? Tell me what color the sky is in your world.

~~~
LEVIN: And I’m very worried you have a national audience where we’re promoting Islamic hatred.
MAHER: No, you’re wrong about that and you’re wrong about your facts. Now, obviously, most Muslim people are not terrorists, but ask most Muslim people in the world, if you insult the prophet, do you have what’s coming to you. It’s more than just a fringe element.
Meanwhile…
Alleged terror plot thwarted by arrests in Ontario, Quebec
Canadian police and intelligence agencies will announce later today they have thwarted a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack, arresting two suspects in Montreal and Toronto, CBC News has learned.
Highly placed sources tell CBC News the alleged plotters have been under surveillance for more than a year in Quebec and southern Ontario.
The two men are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
Police have made a number of arrests in southern Ontario and Quebec following a joint operation between Canadian and U.S. authorities.Police have made a number of arrests in southern Ontario and Quebec following a joint operation between Canadian and U.S. authorities. (CBC)
The investigation was part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
I wonder if these are fanatical Mormonic terror radical militant extremists?
Better not jump to conclusions…
    How do these guys get in the position to teach kids? Does no one look at what they are teaching?
    It’s hard to write humor from this material but this is good:
    Bill is like that broken clock….right twice a day.
    I wonder if he’ll have fun with the pre-Earth Day gathering of greenie pot heads in SF’s Golden Gate Park leaving a $10,000 mess of trash and poop for the city to clean up?
    You’d think this sort of stuff is right in Bill’s wheelhouse.
    See that’s the thing about Liberals, we don’t all walk in lock step like the extreme wingnuts who take their marching orders from the hate merchants on Fox News and right wing radio.
    But, Levin was right.
    @This one: I shouldn’t feed trolls, but ok . . .
    Still following that false narrative, are we?
    Sorry, but this is the first liberal wing-nut I’ve heard renounce the “faith”. With any luck, many other American’s are coming out of there billion-dollar, media supported Obamamania and having an original thought for once. I’ve hoped that this mass idiocy wouldn’t last forever. We’ve suffered the hate-filled division of the “left” ZietGeist for too long. When Bill starts making sense, you really should start looking at your own views–they’re a little stale, and completely in “lock-step” with the liberal media and Obama propaganda team.
    BTW, Bill’s been one of the premier hate-merchants on TV for some time now.
    So Pam Geller is the immoral equivalent to homicide bombers and religious beheaders?!
    No, she is what Levin said she is: An Islamaphobe. Levin was drawing a parallel between Pam Geller’s thinking and the comment that Bill Maher had just made. No moral equivalency with homicidal religious fanatics was suggested.
    For whatever it’s worth, I believe Maher made a valid observation. While most religions have or have had their homicidal fanatics, Islam presently has that problem to a far greater extent than others.
    No doubt about it. Catholics had the inquisition. Jews have had a pretty violent past as well. More recently, North Ireland had Catholics and Protestants killing each other.
    As you said, right now it Islam. And history always seems to repeat itself.
    I tend to agree. But how does labeling her that equate with Maher’s point?
    Levin was drawing a parallel between Pam Geller’s thinking and the comment that Bill Maher had just made.
    Please reiterate for me and interpret Maher’s comment; and then explain Levin’s point in bringing up Geller as a response to Maher and how it’s supposed to relate.
    Thank you.
    @Greg: You’re not paranoid if they really are trying to kill you. One only has to look around to see that the Islamists are trying to kill you or convert you, then kill you because you don’t believe exactly the same version of Islam as they do.
