White House on Ebola Czar: We didn’t want an Ebola expert

Noah Rothman:

You could be forgiven for thinking that the White House would want to appoint someone to the newly created post of Ebola Czar (or “Ebola Response Coordinator,” as the White House prefers) who knows even a little bit about the deadly hemorrhagic fever which is spreading across the globe. You would be wrong.

Since the White House announced on Friday that it was appointing Ron Klain, a Democratic operative with experience on both the Bill Clinton and Al Gore presidential campaigns, to manage the administration’s response to the Ebola crisis, some in the media have been scratching their heads and wondering just what skills beyond administrative experience he brings to the table.

Let’s ask the White House.

“What does the new czar know about Ebola?” CNN’s Jim Acosta asked White House Press Sec. Josh Earnest.

“The president again, wanted somebody who could serve in a coordinating function to manage the implementation of our whole government approach to our Ebola situation,” Earnest replied, answering Acosta’s question indirectly.

“I guess, to more directly address your question, what we were looking for was not an Ebola expert, but rather an implementation expert,” Earnest replied. “And that’s exactly what Ron Klain is.”

By now, everyone is keeping up with the news (most recent: sick woman who recently visited West Africa boards bus at Pentagon to use the bathroom; Dallas hospital lab worker who may have handled infectious specimens actually takes a vacation on a cruise ship). This has fostered a lot of debate about the likes of Hannity and colleagues at Fox News fomenting “panic.” Well, I’m no fan of Hannity or Fox News, but their sensationalism is actually doing the country a service, right now.

Here’s a comment I just posted on the PBS web site:

Larry Weisenthal • 7 minutes ago

In my opinion, the present ebola outbreak represents an existential threat to humanity, and this is an emergency every bit as serious as the 2008 financial crisis, where the USA immediately spent hundreds of billions of dollars to stave off financial collapse. The real threat is not African ebola cases coming to the USA. The threat is ebola spreading to India and China, with ensuing geometric progression, with the result being that ebola is suddenly coming into the USA from all over the globe. We have one chance and one chance only to stop this (absent an effective vaccine and effective anti-ebola drugs). That is to stop it at its African source. This will cost tens of billions of dollars and it is money which should be spent immediately, because the longer the delay the greater the expense.

We shouldn’t take any comfort at all in our vaunted health care system. Events in Dallas show how easily it will be for ebola to quickly overwhelm hospitals, ambulance services, and body disposal services. A single patient consumes enormous human and financial resources for transportation, care, waste disposal, and body disposal. And who could blame anyone for not being willing to expose herself/himself to the hazards which have been so graphically demonstrated to be entirely real?

Moral: It is time for some entirely rational national panic. Only bipartisan national panic will give us all the will do do what must be done and commit the resources which must be committed. – Larry Weisenthal/Huntington Beach CA

I love Obama’s pick for ebola czar.
He’s the guy who went to court to make sure our military votes were NOT counted in Florida during the Bush-Gore recounts (that Bush won all of).
And Klain isn’t even a real czar.
He doesn’t answer only to Obama!
Nope.
He is UNDER a couple of underlings of Obama.
Way under.
So, aside from redecorating a new office for a cool million dollars, what does he do?

True to type, Obama appointed an other incompetent. It would have been good to appoint someone who has a knowledge in controlling communicable diseases.

The worst thing about the “czar” position isn’t his lack of infectious disease qualifications. The guy is a competent manager who is politically savy. The real problem is his job description/focus. He is tasked with monitoring the management of cases occurring in the USA. As I wrote above, this is not the main challenge.

The main challenge is not chasing down all the US cases and contacts, though this is undeniably important. The main challenge is extinguishing the disease in Africa. We only have one chance to do this and that chance is now. Once it escapes out of Africa to India and China, the world won’t ever be the same until we have cheap effective vaccines and drugs, which may or may not be forthcoming. Once we get infected people entering our airports from all over the world, we will have national chaos, as in make certain that you have a well stocked bunker and well loaded guns. Think zombie apocalypse. That’s the power of a geometric progression. That’s the power of a disease which can infect even forewarned health care workers in the USA, wearing protective gear. Imagine what life is like now in Liberia, and don’t take comfort in a supposed “best in the world” health care system where most doctors and nurses are responsible and devoted, but ultimately not all that keen to put their lives on the line, in work which will be more dangerous by far than going on a foot patrol in Afghanistan.

I applaud Hannity and others on Fox News and elsewhere who are stoking our fears. But the answer isn’t to keep West Africans from flying into the USA. It’s to keep West Africans from flying to India and China and elsewhere, while simultaneously spending tens of billions of American taxpayer dollars to eradicate the disease in West Africa.

We can’t wait to form a “coalition,” which will be, in any event, massively under resourced. Ebola is a vastly more dangerous enemy than Al Qaeda or Saddam Hussein or ISIS, and it has already invaded, with massive follow up reinforcements surely to follow, unless we have a national declaration of all out war, right now.

– Larry Weisenthal/Huntington Beach CA

@Larry+Weisenthal: Your postings have certainly got my attention Dr. Can a vaccination be developed in a satisfactory window?
Immediate must dos??

@Larry+Weisenthal:

The worst thing about the “czar” position isn’t his lack of infectious disease qualifications. The guy is a competent manager who is politically savy.

And that is why he was hired as the Ebola “czar.” He has one job, try to stop the bleeding for Democrats and implement damage control. How does that help this nation? It doesn’t. It simply puts politics before security.

But the answer isn’t to keep West Africans from flying into the USA. It’s to keep West Africans from flying to India and China and elsewhere, while simultaneously spending tens of billions of American taxpayer dollars to eradicate the disease in West Africa.

Ah, the always reliable Larry parroting the DNC talking points. You must think that India and China are incapable of stopping Ebola at their borders. I guess it never occurred to you that neither India, or China, are willing to take the economical hit it would take with an Ebola crisis.

Once we get infected people entering our airports from all over the world, we will have national chaos, as in make certain that you have a well stocked bunker and well loaded guns.

So then, you agree that our borders must be sealed, absolutely tight, against anyone who holds a passport from any Ebola nation?

Now radical left wing pundits are saying if we seal our borders and have a travel ban to Ebola nation citizens, that is racist. Well then, there are lots of racist nations around these days as these are the nations that have closed entry to Ebola nation citizens:

Angola,
Botswana,
Cameroon,
Chad,
Colombia (South America),
Congo (DRC),
Equatorial Guinea,
Gabon
Gambia
Ivory Coast
Kenya

You gotta love how the Obama administration reacts to a crisis. They go out and find someone to be in charge. Yes, this is what the President of the United States, the head of the CDC do the head of HHC; go find someone to be in charge. Why is that? Well, because no one in this administration is in charge.

And who is put in charge of a severe and medically complicated crisis? A lawyer. Of course, because how does this administration react to a terrorist crisis? They put lawyers in charge. Perhaps we can arrest Ebola.

@Bill:

And who does Ron Klain report to? Why none other than Susan (The Ambassador was murdered due to a video) Rice.

We are in the best of hands.

Add to that Saudi Arabia.
The Hajj will just have to be missed by those 85% of Guinea who happen to be Muslims.
Really there is no way for people from those three affected countries to get into India or China.
I’m more concerned with the fact that chocolate is harvested by workers from these places.
Either we limit importation of such chocolate or face a small risk of the disease coming in through it.
Cocoa growers are trying to find people from other countries to harvest their cocoa, which is turned into chocolate.
Expect the price of that sweet to go up soon.

@retire05: @retire05: And since the ‘RAT was involved with Al Gorleone’s VP — I wonder what part he played in the Chinese Temple/Buddhist Monk/Chinese Restaurant campaign contribution bundling scams that AlGore was pulling off?

@Nanny+G: Will have to top up my Halloween supply — the leftovers carry me over through the year’s end!

@Larry+Weisenthal:

But the answer isn’t to keep West Africans from flying into the USA. It’s to keep West Africans from flying to India and China and elsewhere,

Huh? – India and China do not ‘need’ our help in this! We need to get our heads out and stop West Africans from flying here!

@Larry Weisenthal:

Larry! Way to go!

Klain is a political hack and his job is to pull Obama’s fat out of the fire. Nothing more. I look forward to his doing for Ebola what he did for Solyndra.

@DrJohn:

I look forward to his doing for Ebola what he did for Solyndra.

Solyndra, as you know, ultimately ended in bankruptcy or perhaps, failure.

I think at one time you accused me of being a child molester or such. By what rationale or logic you came to deduce that is unknown.

You now openly state that you actually look forward to seeing efforts to contain what might be the most widespread deadliest disease in our lifetime to fail.

From your very admission, you surpass me as a hideous and despicable person.

@Ronald J. Ward: Oh, NOW you find rhetoric objectionable. Not when liberals invoke violence against women, or wishing conservatives would die, or promoting violence against Republicans but at an obviously sarcastic remark. Too little too late for any personal integrity to be attributed to you, Ronald.

Richard and Larry, well said!! Panic is created in this case due to lack of trust by America in our governments competence and rightfully so. The CDC had demonstrated clear incompetence regarding the allowance for Vinson to travel. Should she have known better, is also a question but the fact that the CDC gave her the go ahead is appalling. My wife and I have been in the medical field each over 30 years and worked in both government and private sectors, what we see going on with Ebola is beyond our understanding. We have always been taught to error on the side of caution and to see what’s happening here is very scary. The majority of Americans both Democrat and Republican want flight restrictions from West Africa and now. There is NO reason this should and could not be implemented. The economics of these countries or the fact that they where created due to history are poor excuses and not worth putting our way of life, our well being, and our health at risk!! I do NOT know why 0-blama has chosen a different route other than for political reasons. Appointing a political hack as czar is a stall game and only political cover for 0-blama. America MUST stand up and be heard!!

Hi Common Sense, Thanks for your comments. The real threat to the USA and humanity, however, is not the few cases which will inevitably enter from West Africa. It’s the cases from West Africa which will go to India and China and result in cases coming into the USA from all over the globe.

Restricting flights from West Africa will do very little to make the USA safer. Our ultimate safety depends on eradicating the disease in West Africa before it spreads to India and China. The sand is rapidly running out of the hourglass on our opportunity to do so. It calls for an immediate declaration of national emergency and the expenditure of tens of billions of dollars, activation of the national guard, activation of the entire Public Health Service inactive reserve (of which I was a member for a several decades, though not now), and deployment of thousands of Americans, as we can’t wait any longer to form a “coalition” or expect any other country to pick up the ball.

If Obama wants to go down in history as a truly great President, he’ll seize this moment and make it all happen. Alas, I’m concerned that his ever-present abundance of caution will keep him in his current role as Professor in Chief, as opposed to Commander in Chief.

@Ronald J. Ward:

From your very admission, you surpass me as a hideous and despicable person.

So you self admit to being:

a hideous and despicable person.

Thanks for the clarification!

Klain is a political hack and his job is to pull Obama’s fat out of the fire. Nothing more. I look forward to his doing for Ebola what he did for Solyndra.

Anyone remember Chinagate? Here is a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_United_States_campaign_finance_controversy

And here is excerpt: Emphases mine)

Maria Hsia[edit]

Taiwan-born Maria Hsia (pronounced “Shyä”), a long time fund raiser for Al Gore, California immigration consultant, and business associate of John Huang and James Riady since 1988, facilitated $100,000 in illegal campaign contributions through her efforts at Hsi Lai Temple, a Chinese Buddhist temple associated with Taiwan in Hacienda Heights, California. This money went to the DNC, to the Clinton – Gore campaign, and to Patrick Kennedy. After a trial, she was convicted in March 2000.[23][24]

The Democratic National Committee eventually returned the money donated by the Temple’s monks and nuns. Twelve nuns and employees of the temple, including temple abbess Venerable Yi Kung (who resigned her post after being subpoenaed), refused to answer questions by pleading the Fifth Amendment when they were subpoenaed to testify before Congress.[25] Two other Buddhist nuns admitted destroying lists of donors and other documents related to the controversy because they felt the information would embarrass the Temple. A Temple-commissioned videotape of the fund raiser also went missing and the nuns’ attorney claimed it may have been shipped off to Taiwan.[26]

The Temple event became particularly controversial, because it was attended by the Vice President Gore.In an interview on the January 24, 1997 edition of the Today show, Gore said:

I did not know that it was a fund-raiser. But I knew it was a political event, and I knew there were finance people that were going to be present, and so that alone should have told me, ‘This is inappropriate and this is a mistake; don’t do this.’ And I take responsibility for that. It was a mistake.[27]

The Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights, California
In response, the U.S. Senate Governmental Affairs Committee that investigated the controversy said:

The Vice President’s staff… knew that the Temple event was a fundraiser. In March 1996, Deputy Chief of Staff David Strauss had helped arrange a meeting in the White House with the founder of the temple, Hsing Yun – a meeting which Strauss believed would ‘lead to a lot of $.’ The White House staff repeatedly referred to the event as a ‘fundraiser’ in internal correspondence, and assigned to it a ‘ticket price’ of ‘1000–5000 [dollars per] head’.[28]

John Huang’s memo to Vice President Gore’s assistant Kimberly Tilley specifically mentioned the Temple meeting was a fund-raising event. Mr. Gore later acknowledged he had known the visit was “finance-related.”[29][30]

In the U.S., religious organizations enjoy a tax exempt status. Political activity is prohibited for such tax exempt entities. The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee also said they learned that Hsia had served as an “agent” of the PRC government.[28] Hsia denied the claim.

Key takeaway:

Deputy Chief of Staff David Strauss

Who had to be working for and directed by:

Ronald A. “Ron” Klain is an American lawyer and political operative who served as Chief of Staff to two Vice presidents – Al Gore (1995–1999) and Joseph Biden (2009–2011).

Wonder who will be (and has already been) getting the lucrative “emergency” contracts for all the high tech detection equipment, hazmat suits, super respirators, etc etc etc – all the specialized cleaning and decontamination contracts etc etc etc?

Bottom line tho – is who did you hear the word ‘czar’ from first in connection to Ebola? Yeh – that’s right – good old reliable MuckStain! Who is a major part of the “problem”.

I heard that obama has made Africa the priorty to ensure they are protected from ebola. This is why the president bu Constitution has to be born to TWO UNITED STATES CITIZENS. The president must NOT have divided loyalties. Do your research and you will find all kinds of things obsma has done for or is doing for Africa. obama is a traitor to this country.

@Larry+Weisenthal:

If Obama wants to go down in history as a truly great President, he’ll seize this moment and make it all happen. Alas, I’m concerned that his ever-present abundance of caution will keep him in his current role as Professor in Chief, as opposed to Commander in Chief.

The ever-present reality for Obama is that anything he does in any capacity for any reason, good or bad, will be criticized in the strongest possible terms by his conservative foes both in government and without. That is political capital burned every time he opens his mouth, and he knows this. There used to be a saying “politics ends at the water’s edge” which has no meaning on the Right today. You are are trying to explain what you feel the President should do to an audience that thinks whatever he does is not only wrong, but with diabolical motive. The CDC should do something? Two weeks ago the same people would have told you the CDC should be eradicated, and they see no contradiction. Obama will do too much or too little, and someone here will write a post saying he should have done the opposite either way regardless. He will be a traitor for letting ebola in, or a traitor for using government to keep it out. It doesn’t matter. Are there people here who think Obama is ignorant of the obvious reaction on the Right were he were to take drastic measures like closing the borders, or spending, in your words, billions of dollars to treat a disease overseas? He would be called a tyrant from the floor or the Senate by the same people criticizing him now for doing too little. This is way beyond politics as usual. The problem is this is not just rhetoric. This is a drag, a tax, on his capacity to take effective action. This is something that Obama has to take into account, just like everything he does on foreign policy has to be assessed through the prism of Benghazi. The simple fact that Obama isn’t free to act as President in the nation’s best interests on big existential issues without factoring in the inevitability of being called a traitor and a tyrant by conservatives, and knowing he’ll have to fight that rear guard action in the court of public opinion regardless of what he does, is beyond damaging to our national interests. It’s suicidal. It’s hatred driven into madness.

@Budvarakbar: Well, uh, no, I made no such admission.

The consistent inability of those commenting here to read and comprehend simple English is telling. You appear to be yet another cloned sockpuppet acting in accordance with the same playbook.

Dr. John once called me a pedophile for unknown reasons as there was nothing in my writings for him to justify that accusation. Regardless, DJ says I’m a pedophile. So be it.

Dr John openly states that he “looks forward” to a failure that will result in death and agony of mass proportions on the greatest country in the world.

Unwarranted and nonsensical accusations of me from DJ doesn’t compare.

@Tom: You must be insane! Get some help. Even Larry sees the issue this time. When the President with the capability to hire the best and most experienced people in the world hires another crony, that is the epitome of incompetence!

@Randy.:

What precisely that I wrote is “insane”? Are you denying my claim that criticism of Obama is purely reflexive at this point? That is has no internal consistency? Are you denying that, to do what is necessary under Larry’s scenario, you’re asking the President to take unusually unilateral actions on a web site on which people are accusing him of importing ebola so he can take unusually unilateral actions? Which side are you on? Do you support the President closing the boarders, in effect, taking away your right to travel? Do you support the President using billions of dollars and the US military to fight this at the source (which I agree with Larry is the most logical place to focus effort)? You know exactly what would be written on the Right if he did any of those things.

@Ronald J. Ward: Get off your horse —

@Budvarakbar: Well, uh, no, I made no such admission.

you sure as ‘ell did! You stated re Dr John:

From your very admission, you surpass me as a hideous and despicable person.

You arrogant twit — you admitted that you are on the same path and direction and stated that he PASSED you in that same direction.

– you accuse Dr John of making an untrue assertion but do not show that he actually made such an assertion!

Now you seem to be admitting that you are a pedophile!

You stated:

Dr John openly states that he “looks forward” to a failure that will result in death and agony of mass proportions on the greatest country in the world.

Dr John said absolutely NO such thing (to a failure that will result in death and agony of mass proportions on the greatest country in the world.)

>>> you are misrepresenting what other people say! If in fact you seem to think that the demo-commie-cRAT bundler and corruption coordinator for Al Goreleone (Chinagate) and Bonehead Biden (Solyndra) has the expertise to cure Ebola – please explain in DETAIL how and why!– beyond facilitating another massive ripoff of the American taxpayer?

As the rent free resident in your head said relative to the Chicago Messiah: “I hope he fails”
Don’t panic just yet – but if you look closely at the horizon — see those eyes peeping over the horizon? – yeh – right over there!

That is Sarah Palin!

@Budvarakbar: Your diatribe reeks of the sophomoric fraudulence so consistent with the low level ilk here.

You are all one and the same. Imagine that!

@Ronald J. Ward: Hey — aren’t you an awesome one!

I am just so awed and feel so ‘PUT DOWN!!

Why don’t you stay over on the “higher” side of the fence with your pseudo-intellectual peers?

@Tom:

The ever-present reality for Obama is that anything he does in any capacity for any reason, good or bad, will be criticized in the strongest possible terms by his conservative foes both in government and without.

Wrong, I supported Obama in his decision to not arm the Free Syrian Army. But then, like all things Obama, he caved to pressure from his leftist cronies in D.C. Arming the FSA is a mistake, as many of them are now going over to ISIS. Unfortunately, with Obama, every decision has a shelf life.

It’s suicidal. It’s hatred driven into madness.

Perhaps you have forgotten the flack President Bush caught when he decided to go ahead with the surge in Iraq. The Democrats wailed and spittle flew out of their mouths. The press crucified Bush. But Bush went ahead with the surge anyway, and it proved to be a success. That, Tom, is the sign of a real leader. Someone who will buck the head winds because he knows more than any of the rest of us do. But not Obama. No, no, not Obama. He, like Clinton, is so poll driven that he will change horses mid stream if he thinks his favorability rate is going to take a hit.

Do you support the President closing the boarders, in effect, taking away your right to travel?

I support closing our borders to nationals of Ebola stricken nations, like 30 nations have already done. And as to our military going to Africa to “fight” Ebola. How much training do you think they are getting in the four hours training they are being given when it takes six weeks to train a nurse in diseases like Ebola?

“Over 500 American troops are in West Africa, and according to Maj. Gen. Darryl Williams, commander of U.S. Army Africa, said on October 16 while briefing reporters in the Pentagon by telephone from Liberia, none will directly be treating Ebola patients. However, he said that a select group of sailors will be handling mobile labs that contain bodily fluids of Ebola patients.

“I’m not an epidemiologist, but it’s been shown that this disease is most manifest when handling bodily fluids–blood, other sorts of fluids, and there is no plan right now for U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines to do that,” said the general. “Now, the exception is the mobile labs that were here, and they are triple-protective.”

“The sailors that are in there performing the confirm-or-deny on the Ebola virus, they are wearing PPE, and they are testing for this virus,” said Williams, later adding, “They are handling specimens of people who have been inflicted with the Ebola virus.”

Why test them if there is no risk to our soldiers?

And then there’s this:

Nevertheless, he indicated that the risk of infection is “relatively low.”

“As long as you exercise basic sanitation and cleanliness sort of protocols using the chlorine wash on your hands and your feet, get your temperature taken, limiting the exposure, the–no handshaking, those sorts of protocols, I think the risk is relatively low,” explained the general.”

Tell that to the two nurses who are not being treated for Ebola.

Yeah, all those soldiers need to do is just wash their hands and feet. Never mind the temperature taking. I mean, once it starts to go up, well, it’s too late then, isn’t it? And don’t shake hands, because another soldier might be infected.

@retire05:

How much training do you think they are getting in the four hours training they are being given when it takes six weeks to train a nurse in diseases like Ebola?

Reply

You left out the most crucial fact: The six weeks you speak of is for additional specialty training of ALREADY TRAINED and mostly LICENSED nurses.

@Ronald J. Ward:

Dr. John once called me a pedophile for unknown reasons as there was nothing in my writings for him to justify that accusation. Regardless, DJ says I’m a pedophile. So be it.

We know one thing for sure you are NOT. You are not someone that has the courage to answer a simple question such as why would Obama use such a unproven example of the Michael Brown shooting to demonstrate domestic racial problems.

@retire05:

Tell that to the two nurses who are not being treated for Ebola.

Now! Now! Now! — please proofread

@retire05:

Yeah, all those soldiers need to do is just wash their hands and feet. Never mind the temperature taking. I mean, once it starts to go up, well, it’s too late then, isn’t it? And don’t shake hands, because another soldier might be infected.

Good luck dere Mr. General

@Budvarakbar:

The six weeks you speak of is for additional specialty training of ALREADY TRAINED and mostly LICENSED nurses.

Yep, and now we are learning that the 101st is being sent to Africa and all they are going to be issued are gloves and masks. That should work out well.

@retire05: Yes the heroes of Bastogne — WHERE in ‘ell is a Gen. McAuliff when we NEED one — not to mention a Patton!

Yep, and now we are learning that the 101st is being sent to Africa and all they are going to be issued are gloves and masks. That should work out well.

Come to think of it the 101st at Bastogne only had summer clothes for winter conditions — our ‘PATTON’ will have to drive into WA DC!

@retire05:

Perhaps you have forgotten the flack President Bush caught when he decided to go ahead with the surge in Iraq.

You’re pretty awful at debate to introduce that line of argument. What was Bush’s approval rating after 9/11? 90%. Do you know what percentage of Democrats, of liberals, it takes to support the President to make that number? If three passenger planes crashed into NYC and the pentagon on Obsma’s watch, I don’t anticipate such a show of unity. That’s because I think conservatives would be too busy trying to find a tree branch on the White House lawn that could bear a man’s weight. This isn’t idle speculation. Obama has bee the target of three times as many threats on his life as Bush without a 9/11. People like you hate Obama more than you love America. You want things to go wrong so badly. It’s pathetic.

@retire05: @retire05: !

Yes the heroes of Bastogne — WHERE in ‘ell is a Gen. McAuliff when we NEED one — not to mention a Patton !

Whoever has current command of the 101st – hasn’t got the dam balls to say ‘NUTS’

@Budvarakbara>: >@Tom: people like you hate Obama more than you love America. </Hey fool – to HATE Obama is to LOVE America

@Larry+Weisenthal: I see your focus and for once I see the value of your comments. However, I also note the Chinese Communists’ singular ability to immediately and forcefully implement whatever solution they need to put down a rebellion or to stop an invasion by the Obola virus. I really don’t see them needing help to keep anyone out. Probably the same is true for India. Our problem is how to change the meme in our gummint from politics as usual to one of actually acting in the best interests of all Americans instead of the crony few……

@Marine72: No signs so far on any horizon!

@Tom:

The ever-present reality for Obama is that anything he does in any capacity for any reason, good or bad, will be criticized in the strongest possible terms by his conservative foes both in government and without.

Can you cite something the President had done that has been good that was unfairly criticized (I’m sure the first part of the question will be harder to identify than the last)?

Do you support the President closing the boarders, in effect, taking away your right to travel?

No one asks for a travel ban to the regions. However, one who travels there would have difficulty getting back. And, which Amendment protects the right to travel? Is that the one that ensures the right to an abortion or health care? Travel is a privilege based on personal means, not a right by any stretch. The health and safety of the public overrides any infringement of anyone’s “right” to travel to West Africa. Sheesh.

If three passenger planes crashed into NYC and the pentagon on Obsma’s watch, I don’t anticipate such a show of unity. That’s because I think conservatives would be too busy trying to find a tree branch on the White House lawn that could bear a man’s weight.

When Obama finally reacted to the ISIS threat, even though it was a crisis of his own making, he gained support from the right for action against ISIS while the left offered opposition. Of course now his support from the right has eroded now that it is clear is ISIS reaction is merely the bare minimum that could be, by his media, be deemed an “effort”. No, Tom, if Obama were to suddenly do the right thing somewhere, he would get the support he deserved. However, he ALWAYS does only what is politically important to HIM, never what is in the best interests of the nation.

@Ronald J. Ward: Here’s another simple, easy to answer question for you, Ronald. Why, when he promised no lobbyists would have a job in his administration, did Obama appoint a non-medical lobbyist as the “Ebola czar”? Is there no one in the country other than a lobbying lawyer that could fill that job?

@Budvarakbar: On this point your are wrong. Americans love America and HATE the incompetence of Obama!! I would NOT care if he where green and for your to say this is so is only a demonstration of your racist position. Obama lied to America when he said there where shovel ready jobs and he admitted it, Obama lied to America when he said if you like your doctor and/or health insurance you can keep them “period”!! He lied and admitted it. If you say I hate Obama more than America due to his incompetence then you have the problem. The majority of Americans (both Republicans and Democrat) (both politicians and regular citizens) have seen the incompetence of our government with the management of 1 only 1 immigrant from West Africa with Ebola and therefore due to this incompetence want travel restriction applied for our safety!! This is note due to hate of Obama but rather due to his incompetence!! There are many many other instances of 0-blama’s failures and I hate them all!! I love America and have the freedom to say express my feelings as much as any other citizen including yourself!! Your are the deranged robot who fails to see what is happening here not me!!

@Common+Sense: If you are referring to my #38 – that comment got jumbled up and I had requested deletion and had stated that it was jumbled for the reason for deletion!

I am not a racist.

To despise Obama and the internationalist cabal behind him and his stringpullers and teleprompter writers for what they are doing and already HAVE done to this country is not racist.

As for loving one’s country — some of the greatest despots of the 20th century ‘loved’ their countries — they were just into a lot of ‘fundamental transformation’!

@Budvarakbar: Ok solid! What I struggle with here is the inconsistent whine of the liberals when it comes to criticism of our President. When President Bush went to Iraq he had the support of over 70 congressional Democrats. Once it started to go South the hate for President Bush was disgusting and came from liberals!! Now they try and whine about how Obama’s decisions are being treated with no memory of how they hated Bush!! They still will blame Bush and the Koch brothers as we speak.
If you just focus on the incompetence of the management of Ebola by our President your criticism is valid and based upon fact. The ONLY Ebola patient that entered America is now dead and two care givers are infected!! The cause of their infection is NOT known at this time!! Obama and the CDC failed to provide effective leadership to prevent this from happening!! In addition, there are both Democrats and Republican politicians and well as Democrat and Republican citizens asking for travel restrictions from the affected countries!! This is NOT just hate of Obama this is concern for his failure in this instance!! Now he hires a political hack with NO experience to add a buffer between him and the crisis of Ebola!! If this is NO big deal then why is adding this new layer?? Obama has failed and lied to America on numerous occasions ad clearly documented, do I hate this, you bet and I hold him accountable for his mistakes. Do I hate Obama, could care less even if he where green!!

@Common+Sense: Thank You for a timely reply!

I would like to refer you and others to the FA thread: The Ebola crisis is threatening to sink Obama’s presidencyand to Nanny G’s comment #30 and my response #32

It looks like a “Third?” world nation Nigeria got on top of their first case BACK in July and are about to issue an announcement that the outbreak is contained and over – uh – I am sure that THERE will be NO reopening anytime soon to travel from the West African countries to Nigeria! And Saudi Arabia closed the Hajj to pilgrims from West Africa on August 5th.

What gives with the demo-COMMUNISTS in DC?

This new Czar BS — this ‘RAT is so dirty and slimey he makes dingy harry look clean — you would have to play in raw sewage for a couple days to be as filthy as this ‘RAT!

The lumps that have popped to the surface so far include:
Klinton/Goreleone’s Chinagate – I covered that in my comment #19 – upthread
Gore’s attempted stealing of the 2000 election in Florida – thoroughly covered by Mark Levin last Friday
Solyndra – not sure where this has been covered in detail

@Bill

: @Ronald J.

I’ve previously exposed such elementary tactics as what I referred to as “rodeo clown” maneuvers. Rodeo clowns as you may or may not know, are for the sole purpose of distracting the bull while the thrown rider ducks under the fence to safety.

Accordingly, Dr. John exposes his vile and hideous self as he clearly stated how he” looked forward”to seeing a godawful epidemic inflect untold pain and suffering on the great land and citizens of America, clearly for the sole purpose to advance his hate infested agenda against either the black man in the White House or to be more charitable, against a political party or ideology that doesn’t march lockstep with his mindset.

That’s about as diabolical and satanic as any bigoted hatred I’ve seen expressed on even your most disgusting venom spewing Obama hating blogs.

So, where is Dr John? He has slipped under the fence while “rodeo clowns” like you and Budvarakbar do your side show distractions, playing childish rubber/glue games to protect you from the true nauseating and loathsome evil that you’ve allowed yourselves to be consumed with.

@Ronald+J.+Ward: At least you are batting 1.000. You simply cannot answer a question which exposes how consistently wrong those you support prove to be. No more needs to be said.

@Bill: Confirmed!

I think that there must be a UN enforced medical quarantine on all ports of entry/exit of the continent. No ships or flights out without those travelers and crew having passed through quarantine & testing camps. They don’t like it, too damn bad. These nations had their chance to get the outbreak under control and failed. Once outbreakmedical quarantine, testing and treatment internment camps established, you then start working on isolation and treatment.

@Ditto: Do a little more research – most of Africa is free of Ebola and have already isolated themselves from the 3 countries that have been affected. What will probably happen if the morons in DC do not wise up and more Ebola cases develop or show up here is that the US will drag it’s feet so long that the rest of the world turns the US into a roach motel — ya can get in – but ya can’t get out!
