WaPo OP-ED: End Presidential Term Limits … Let’s Have a King Again Instead

Scared Monkeys:

End presidential term limits, are you insane? We should implement US House and Senate term limits as well.

In what might be one of the most foolishly thought out premise, NYU history professor Jonathan Zimmerman inked a WAPO oped titled “End presidential term limits,” suggesting that the 22nd Amendment limitingpresidents to two terms of office should be repealed as a way to assuring a more effective presidency and protecting democracy from a leader without fear of voters’ wrath.  Why is it so important now, because Barack Obama is president? Hell, it’s not like he follows the US Constitution now, watch him run for a third term anyhow and call those oppose racists.

Sorry, but if our countries first president, George Washington, thought multiple terms was a bad thing, that is good enough for me. As it was Washington had to be talked into a second term. Ending term limits was wrong when it was discussed by Republicans during the presidency of Ronald Reagan, it was wrong when Democrats brought it up with Bill Clinton and it is still wrong with Barack Obama. The office of the President is bigger than any one man, that includes Obama. There is a reason why America fought a War of Independence against King George and it was not to replace one tyrant with another.

In 1947, Sen. Harley Kilgore (D-W.Va.) condemned a proposed constitutional amendment that would restrict presidents to two terms. “The executive’s effectiveness will be seriously impaired,”Kilgore argued on the Senate floor, “ as no one will obey and respect him if he knows that the executive cannot run again.”

I’ve been thinking about Kilgore’s comments as I watch President Obama, whose approval rating has dipped to 37  percent in CBS News polling — the lowest ever for him — during the troubled rollout of his health-care reform. Many of Obama’s fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from the reform and from the president. Even former president Bill Clinton has said that Americans should be allowed to keep the health insurance they have

We already have a president that thinks he will be king. He’s just waiting for his crowning.

I agree Smorg, and I don’t like the thought…

This asinine statement from a tenured professor. Tenure the system that keeps incompetent fools from losing their jobs.

He’s already King.
What need for an amendment?
He has all Royal powers.

I DON’T BLAME THE SCARE MONKEY,
ANY ONE IS SCARE JUST TO THINK OF IT,

Well, at least if Obama were eternally running for another term, we would NEVER have Obamacare enacted because he would constantly be delaying its harmful effects until after the NEXT election.

‘A gob’mint of citizen legislators and executives’…. that was the founding fathers intent… and unfortunately, their one big mistake.
We’ll never get legislative term limits if we wait for the legislators to enact it…. duh!!!!

Having given a lot of thought to the problems in local, state and federal legislatures, I have come to a solution, which unfortunately – we will shall also never see enacted. Every local Ordinance, State Law or Regulation, Federal Law or Regulation…….. should be automatically sun-setted after ten years if not voted on to be renewed by the sitting legislators and sign by the incumbent senior executive, gob’nor or POTUS. All existing ordinances, laws and regulations could be divided by ‘ten’ to allow equal annual case loads….

This simple act would keep all of them fellers busy in their respective sessions discussing and voting on these existing laws… and not leave near enough time for their mischief to create all the new rules and laws that their idle hands currently create!

VERY GOOD, YES,
THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WORKING THERE, THAT THE CITIZENS WHO ARE OUTSIDE,
MUST WONDER WHAT THE F… ARE THEY ALL DOING THERE,
WHY THE F… ARE THEY ALL THERE,
NONE HAVE BEEN SHOWING ANY LIGHT BULB RAYS OF KNOWLEDGE,
WHY THE F… SHOULD I PAY THEIR EARNING WHICH ARE MORE THAN MINE?
MANY QUESTIONS ASK BY THE PEOPLE, YES, AND NONTHING IS SHOWING PROGRESS IN THERE,
I BET THE SAME NUMBERS OF ELECTED FROM ONE HUNDRED YEAR AGO COULD BE MORE EFFICIENT
AND OF COURSE MORE TRANSPARENT,
DOES THIS GOVERNMENT IS MADE OF A BUNCH OF LAZY WHO HAVE TO CREATE AN AGENCY TO DO THEIR WORK,
AND SHOW THEM WHERE THE BATHROOM IS BECAUSE IT’S NOW SO BIG, THERE IS SOME IN THE BATHROOM WORKING ON THEIR LAPTOP, PLAYING GAMES,
HOW MANY AGENCIES HAS BEEN CREATED BY OBAMA?
THEY ARE SCATTERD IN THE UNITED STATES TO SPY ON WHAT EVER THE CITIZENS DO,
AND JUMP IN TO MAKE THEM PAY FOR ERRORS WITTEN IN THEIR OBAMA 2000 AND GROWING BOOK OF RESTRICTIONS, AND THEY ARE PAID BY THE PEOPLE,
AMERICA IN GREAT DANGER,

I would like to see each candidate, new and incumbent, have to sign a contract saying what they will and won’t do if elected. If they fail to live up to the contract, it is automatically voided, and they have to resign.

Each federal agency, committee, etc., should have an expiration date. Congress should have to vote to keep or close each one. Whatever the shortest term is in congress, that is how often all of the politicians will have to vote to keep or close each one. They must vote. No excuses not to. They will vote yes, no, or undecided. The items will be spread over the shortest term so they can’t be grouped and voted on all at the same time. Each one will be separate.

Each politician will be given information about the agency, committee, etc., and they must give their yes, no, or undecided vote. This way each politician will learn of all the agencies, committees, etc., in the federal government and how much money each one receives, and then they can decide if it should stay in existence.

@Pecozbill: I like it, it should keep the overpaid useless POS’s occupied and perhaps even get some turnover in some of the useless agencies, which is most of them.

THAT MAKE SENSE, it should win you a place in the GOVERNMENT gone astray,
ALONG THE OTHER HERE GIVING BRIGHT IDEAS TO HELP THE GOVERNMENT DO THE RIGHT THING,
you are right< the ones having been too long on their seat, lost the flame they might have had when they seek their position, they must go now, THEY LOST THEIR WAY, WE CANNOT HELP THOSE ONE, YES THERE MUST BE A LIMIT,
i SEE THE YOUNGER MOVEMENT, EAGER TO REPAIR THE HARM DONE, BEING SILENCE BY THE ELDERS WHO ARE AFRAID OF THEIR MOVE TO BRING ABOUT ACTION, AND NOW,
THE ELDERS ARE SEPARATED IN TWO PARTS NOW, THE SLEEPER WHO ARE FINDING THEIR COMFORT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN
WHY THEY ARE THERE AT THE FIRST PLACE,
AND THE OTHER GROUP WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE ACTIONS WHICH ARE IMPERATIVE TO PROTECT AMERICA NOW,
TRAILING BEHIND IS NO MORE ACCEPTED, THE SH SH SH
TO PROTECT THE FAILURES OF THE OPONANT FOR THE SAKE TO GET ALONG AND THE FEAR OF THE ONE COMMING WITH
WHAT THE PEOPLE THINK, THE POLLS DOES NO MORE STOP THE ELECTED FROM DOING WRONG,
THEY DISREGARD THE POLLS, BECAUSE IT DOESN’T STAY PUBLIC LONG ENOUGH, AND BOTH ARE BEING ASSESS BY PEOPLE BLAMING BOTH PARTY,
THE REPUBLICANS GOPS TEAPARTY MUST BE ALERT AND READY
TO RETURN THE BLAME THEY WHERE FALSLY AND VICIOUSLY
ACCUSED OF AS SOON AS IT COME,

Another thing that has to end is the politicians being vested. They only have to be in office a short time, then they get lifetime benefits, like a pension and health care.

Smorgasbord
YES THEY SHOULD GET WHAT THE PEOPLE GET,
NO BENEFIST NO UNIONS, NO PAID VECATIONS, NO MONEY INCENTIVES
THEY DON’T NEED PROTECTION, THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING PROTECTION TO THE PEOPLE
THEY LIVE IN A CLOSE STATE OF THEIR OWN,
THEY GET PAID BY THE PEOPLE, LET THEM PAY FOR WHAT THEY WANT,

@ilovebeeswarzone: #13
I have said the same things for some time.

Smorgasbord
YES, YOU ARE ONE OF A SOURCE THAT I FIND THE NEED TO REPEAT,

WE ARE NOW AWARE OF THE POPULATION ATTENTION SPAN, WHICH IS MADE BY THE ADVANCE OF THECKNOLOGY, CONSTANTLY GETTING FASTER, TOO FAST BECAUSE WE HAVE AN EARFULL OF IT,
AND OUR PROCESSING TIME HAS NOT ADVANCE TO BE ABLE TO PICK EVERY WORDS EXPOSE TO IT,
THEREFORE GIVING US THE NEED TO REPEAT THE GOOD WE FIND IN IT, BECAUSE OUR INTEREST ARE TURNED ON WHAT IS GOOD FOR THIS AMERICA,
WHILE THOSE ON TOP ARE TURNED ON WHAT THEIR FANCY BRING THEM TO IMPLEMENT ON AND ON WHAT THEY ARE INTENT TO DO AND IMPLEMENT SO TO CONTROL THE AMERICA, WHO ONCE WAS SO AIMING AT HER PRECIOUS FREEDOM FOR ALL THE PEOPLE, WHICH THE LEADER REFUSE TO LET THIS CONTINUE, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AMERICAN IN THEIR HEART, THEY ARE FROM FOREIGN INFLUENCE WHO HAVE CEASE THE POWER BY FORCE OF MONEY VALUE,
THIS THECNOLOGY IS SHOWING AN IMPORTANT NEGATIVE SIDE, WE DON’T THINK WAS THERE, BECAUSE WE ARE
BEING PROPELLED IN A SPEED TIME ZONE NEVER EXPERIENCE BEFORE, IN AN ADVANCE SPEED OF KNOWLEDGE NEVER EXPERIENCE BEFORE,
WE ARE BOMBARDED BY ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT MESSAGES.
MANY OF US HUMAN YOUNG AND OLD, DON’T HAVE THE SKILLS TO PROCESS BY GOOD OR BAD FOR THIS AMERICA TO ABSORVE OR IGNORE,
AND THE ATTENTION SPAN OF A TIMING OF NANO SECONDS, IS LEAVING MANY UNAWARE OF IT,
THAT, COMPELL US TO REPEAT THE GOOD WORDS,
ALWYS EXPOSING THEIR AGENDA NOT AIM AT A FREE AMERICA,
AS MANY TIMES AS THE OPONANT SEND THEIRS TO INDOCTRINATE A PEOPLE SO TO SERVE
THEIR UN-AMERICAN AGENDA,
