I want to take a minute and tie together three recent news items in a way that I think says a lot about where we are as a nation and as a society. Those three news items are:
1. The alienation of young men from the Democrat Party due to wokeism and the DEI denigration of males.
2. The Democrat embrace of the Cheneys and America’s useless, endless wars.
3. SpaceX’s recent amazing accomplishments and Elon’s quest for Mars.
This is a complex analysis that ties together some disparate concepts, so bear with me please.
Here goes:
Democrats are struggling to connect with young men. This is largely because Democrats have demonized natural masculine traits as “toxic masculinity.” It’s also because cadres of woke female union teachers have actively suppressed the typical hopes and dreams of boys and young men, either through intimidation, bad grades or behavior-modifying drugs. Boys and young men are hard-wired in their souls to dream and seek out adventure—but not just any kind of adventure, adventure that gives MEANING. Democrats tell boys and young men—either directly or indirectly—that this natural desire is wrong and immoral, so that deep, deep yearning of all testosterone-laden males goes unfulfilled. Instead, these young men sit in their Mom’s basement, look at porn, smoke weed and play Call of Duty as a pale imitation of what they are hard-wired to crave.
(So on to point #2…)
Traditionally, a major way young men have scratched the itch of meaningful adventure is to go to war. Generations of young men throughout history have marched to war enthusiastically despite the mayhem and bloodshed they were about to face. But in America in 2024, our recent track record of twenty-plus years of useless, endless wars without closure or meaning have taught many young men and their military family parents/grandparents that it is a waste to join the military, that their lives will be thrown away for Halliburton and Ukrainian money-laundering kickbacks. The Democrat Party of Kamala Harris and Dick Cheney is now wholly affiliated with this malfeasance, and coupled with the Democrat’s denigration of the young men needed to fight the useless, endless wars the Democrats so desire, this represents even further alienation of the cause of war as a means of satisfying the quest for meaningful adventure.
(And on to point #3…)
Which brings me to SpaceX and Elon Musk. In bygone days as recently as the beginning of the 20th Century, young men got the desire for adventure satisfied not just by war, but by exploration—think Shackleton’s Voyage and the many other similar expeditions. Even late in the 20th Century, the Apollo program turned young men’s eyes to the stars, dreaming of that glorious adventure of exploration that would give their young lives true meaning. But somewhere along the way of the late 20th Century, we stopped dreaming about advancing to the stars and turned inward to the mundane and the routine. Young men lost that path of imagination, one that many would have acted on if only that had a way to do so. The dream was gone, the adventure was gone, all like they never had happened. Lately, however, I have seen young men energized by the exploits of SpaceX like nothing I can recall in recent memory. (Old men too—like me ) If Elon’s Mars vision proceeds, it will be a MASSIVE undertaking that will engage millions of young people in so many ways, and may ultimately lead to life on another planet—the ultimate adventure.
(So my conclusion…)
I believe Elon Musk’s quest for Mars has done more than anyone realizes. I believe it is energizing an entire generation of young men to once again activate that dormant but innate part of their souls that led Shackleton to Antarctica, led Orville and Wilbur to get off the ground, and led Neil Armstrong to the Moon. It is thrilling, and energizing, and can only have the greatest benefits for society by recreating the sense of “all things can be accomplished” that typified all great societies throughout history. Who knows what spin-offs this newfound sense of meaningful adventure will create?
Of the many great things Elon Musk has done and is doing, among his very best accomplishments may be the resurrection of the young American male.
