There are a few things that strike the reader upon reading the following tweet, which references Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg, the Army Ranger President Barack Obama praised at the end of his otherwise unmemorable State of the Union address. Remsburg was gravely wounded in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan on his 10th deployment. The bomb killed one and left Remsburg in a coma for three months. Even today he remains partially paralyzed and brain damaged. Seeing him at the speech was a great reminder of the costs of war and the bravery of a certain class of man.
But for one member of the media, it was also really about … wait for it … Barack Obama:
You’ll want to read it all
But then head over to Ace’s to read what they wrote:
My first thought was rather about the soldier himself, but I suppose different people have different agendas.
Mollie Hemmingway writes about this and notes something special. You can’t excuse this Bieberesque infantile homoerotic obsession as just being a factor of Twitter’s compressed and slapdash format.
Nope! When Mark Murray (NBC Political Director) had the opportunity to use as many words as are necessary to convey the full and complete character of his thoughts — that is, when he was writing NBC’s “First Read” column — he said the same thing.
Looks like the tone-deaf in Obama’s team (speechwriters AND media) really have put their feet in their mouths on this one.
Seeing all the tweets and posts that try to shame them is sad because they have no shame.
I thought the worst thing about Obama’s use of Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg, the Army Ranger, was that Obama somehow managed to close on mass applause, meant for the soldier, but mis-interpreted as for himself.
This one is disgusting!! 85+% of our Army is not combat ready and he uses this poor fellow a a prop?!!
These ever so smug people are despicable cowards…
These same people with their quirky little ‘tweets’ would crap in their pants, and regurgitate their dinner if they had to spend all of 15 minutes walking in the boots of our Heroes such as Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg.
The DEBATE IS OVER. Ofraud IS a NARCISSIST…of the most despicable and cowardly kind there is.
God Bless You Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg…our humble gratitude and prayers are with you…and your family…
This what Obama said, at the end of the 2014 SOTU address:
What matters is what Obama actually said, not what other people had to say about it.
Cory Remsburg is not a prop. He’s a reality. If anyone has ever earned the right to be singled out for national recognition by a president at a SOTU address, Remsburg surely has.
@Greg:
True he’s not a prop, that’s why it was so disgusting that Obama tried to get the applause for himself that Remsburg deserved.
At best he’s tone deaf.
Do you find fault either with the fact that Remsburg was there as a special guest of the President and First Lady? Or with the fact that he was singled out for recognition and given a prolonged standing ovation? Or with what Obama said about him?
There’s no way that this was Obama’s moment, in any sense of the word. Obama turned to him like everyone else present, applauded him, and saluted him in front of the entire nation. What more could any president have said or done to make it a soldier’s moment?
It really burns me that people would be trying to diminish that. You’d think on some occasions they could drop the bullshit, just for a moment.
@Common Sense: obama has neutered the military. soldiers cannot have a bible on their desk, they cannot talk about God (which includes Chaplains), they can’t say the word Christmas. they have to embrace same sex military marriages and gays and transgenders in the military AND now muslims can wear their turbans and wear a beard – and so on. Their benefits which they were told they would have once they put in their time has eroded away. Anyway that doesn’t think they deserve it should be ashamed. We all work hard yes, but do you have to dodge bullets or be wary of IEDs or secrect muslim terrorists? Probably not.
The Army is being decimated from 545K (which granted is probably a bit too high) to about 420K and maybe less. Those that do not retire or see the handwriting will be left to fight it out among themselves. You think it is political now? just wait. what will be left are those that are astute in the political ring and trust me that doesn’t mean they are good at their jobs as soldiers (regardless the rank).
@Greg:
Why would he expect a courtesy he wouldn’t extend to anyone? The puppeteers can’t stop shaking his arms and legs and moving his jaw.
@Greg:
Honor, appreciation, and praise should be heaped onto Cory Remsburg until he can no longer carry it. He deserves nothing less. But why was he “singled out” when there are others who are in the same condition as Remburg? Are his parents Democrats who worked to help get the Marxist in Chief elected? Why Cory Remburg and not this soldier:

Oh, but wait, Obama couldn’t have someone who has survived unspeakable wounds that is moving on with his life to the point where he is running for elected office, as a Republican. That just would not do. The pretense that Obama is beloved by the military must be maintained.
So don’t p!ss on our leg and tell us it’s raining, Greggie, after your Won-der could not even mention the death of Chris Kyle or send any message to his widow. Our military are nothing more than photo-op props to Obama. And they know it.
@Redteam:
What do you want to bet that Valerie Jarrett manages those strings with a remote control?
Those who thought the admiration and prolonged applause was not entirely for Sgt Remsburg are deluding themselves and should examine why their hatred of an elected POTUS has put them so personally out of focus.
@Richard Wheeler:
And those who have worn the uniform of our nation, and who can defend this Administration in any way, should take a good hard look at themselves.
And why do you think that anyone who disagrees with the Marxist that sits at the Resolution Desk only does so out of “hate” for him? Oh, that’s right; you’re a Democrat and you think that disagreeing with a president, or his policies (as per Hillary Clinton), is patriotic unless it is against a Democrat president.
I don’t hate Obama. I hate his politics. And unlike you, can separate the two.
@retire05:
Here’s what Pelosi thinks about Dimocrats:
So even she recognizes how dumb the Dims are.

@retire05 My comment wasn’t directed to you and was specific to the event.
You love to make stuff up. Gives me comic relief.
You’re tag team worth the price of admission.
@Richard Wheeler:
And exactly what did I make up? I know it’s hard for you, but be specific.
@retire05: I have NEVER said EVERYONE who disagrees with Obama does so out of hate. Your false accusations are numerous o5. It’s part of your schtick.
@Richard Wheeler:
You’re referring to ‘you and RJW’, you and Greg, you and This One, You and Tom? Or maybe it’s You and RJW and Greg and this one and tom.
@Richard Wheeler:
Oh, wait; I thought it was you that typed this:
So you were not accusing those who thought the “admiration and prolonged applause was not entirely for Sgt Rembsurg” were only deluding themselves out of their hatred of an elected POTUS? Really? You really going to stick with that?
What is your theme song, RW? Pop Goes The Weasel?
@retire05: My statement was specific to those who believed the applause was at least partially for Obama. Again, I never said ALL who disagree with BHO do so out of personal hatred and I certainly don’t believe that.
Why do you feel the need to make stuff up? Do you have a problem comprehending the written word? Or do you just enjoy outright lying?
Makes you look very foolish o5.
@retire05, #9:
Obama revealed the reason for that to anyone who bothered to listen. He had met Remburg before he was wounded, at the commemoration ceremonies of the 65th anniversary of D-Day near Omaha Beach. (Another moment that the right disparages.) Seeing the man before and after and knowing something of his recovery is a graphic lesson in what the words sacrifice and courage actually mean. Did you miss that obvious point?
Why? Would that disqualify Remburg as worthy of being honored?
@Richard Wheeler:
Actually, no, but you do seem to have a problem writing exactly what you mean since now you are playing Chubby Checker.
So you think I look more foolish than a former Marine who seems to want to wipe his rear end with his uniform defending The Won in any way? WTF is wrong with the water in California?
@Greg:
Perhaps Obama should get out more often and visit our military hospitals. Everyone of those soldiers, like Cory Remsburg and Sam Brown, are a graphic lesson in what the words “sacrifice” and “courage” actually mean. There are many of them, Greggie, all fighting the “good” war for Obama in Afghanistan. Not one of them deserves more, or less, than the others. What they do deserve is a CIC that actually believes in them, and their missions.
@retire05: What I wrote should be crystal clear to anyone with the ability to comprehend the written word.
Your continually crude references to the Marine Corps uniform shows just how sleazy you can be 05. Is there a lady in there anywhere?
@Richard Wheeler:
Why does a ‘dislike’ of Obama and all he stands for, have to be personal hatred? I don’t think I ever feel a ‘personal hatred’ for anyone or anything, but I do have an intense dislike for Obama and his followers that are determined to destroy the US and the freedoms we have. I do actually believe that is his mission. I don’t think he will succeed because I think his handlers overplayed their hand with Obamacare and revealed that the ‘grand plan’ is to destroy the medical care system, the insurance companies and ultimately the financial system that is inherent to freedom. This overplay will stall their plans for a while, but not long.
@Richard Wheeler:
Retire has made no crude reference to the Marine Corps uniform. and that should be
Note: the crude references have been about the person who dishonors the uniform. Ahem…….
I don’t believe it honors a flag or a uniform when they’re mentioned in a context that stinks like an outhouse. Particularly when the person being attacked has actually worn the uniform while defending the flag.
@Redteam: Do you think I have dishonored the Marine Corps uniform seaman?
@Greg:
Actually, it makes it worse when a person that has worn a uniform while defending the country would so dishonor that uniform or constitution by his strong support of an ineligible person occupying the white house that is determined to do all he can to destroy that constitution and all the efforts that person has put into defending the country.
@Richard Wheeler:
I think your actions dishonor you. It seems to indicate that you have forgotten the noble reasons that you wore that uniform. Marines defend the constitution, Dimocrats want to shred it.
I think if a person has completed his military service and is no longer wearing the uniform, unless he uses that uniform in a protest or takes an action against the uniform, then I think the uniform is not involved. An example: When John Kerry was running around the country in fatigues (uniform) protesting the government, he was dishonoring the uniform. When he pretended to throw his ‘medals’ away, he was dishonoring the military. In short, he is scum. He dishonored himself much more than anyone could dishonor a uniform. I feel as if it is an insult for you to use the term Semper Fi attached to a political message.
@Redteam: I fought Communism up close and personal for nearly 13 months in RVN so people like you and O5 can say whatever the hell you like on blogs like this. The United States Marine Corps will be standing tall long after we’re gone.
Like I said, most of the time I find your musings to be humorous Be clear.I don’t adhere to the rantings of the far right or the far left.
@Richard Wheeler:
And people like you. But those musings should stay distinct from implying that the military supports your point of view more than it does any others.
I sure hope so. I enjoy some of your comments, but
doesn’t make sense as long as you support Obama, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, etc……if that is not far, far, far left, describe someone that is.
