Bookworm:
Wikipedia has a working definition of the1950s blacklist that Leftists to this day use as a banner around which to rally:
The Hollywood blacklist—as the broaderentertainmentindustry blacklist is generally known—was the mid-20th-century practice of denying employment to screenwriters, actors, directors, musicians, and other U.S. entertainmentprofessionals because of their suspected political beliefs or associations. Artists were barred from work on the basis of their alleged membership in or sympathy with the American Communist Party, involvement in progressive political causes that enforcers of the blacklist associated with communism, and refusal to assist investigations into Communist Party activities.
Summed up, a blacklist deprives seeks to destroy individuals by taking away their jobs, not because they were doing their jobs badly or using their jobs towards nefarious ends, but simply because the blacklisters do not agree with the individual’s political, religious, or other personal beliefs.
Brendan Eich, co-founder and CEO of Mozilla Firefox, a massively popular web browser, believes that the institution of marriage is a heterosexual institution. There’s no indication that he hates gays, wants to hurt gays, can’t work with gays, uses his work to destroy gays, etc. It’s just that he believes that, by definition, marriage is heterosexual. To him, when you take the heterosexual out of marriage, you’ve fundamentally changed its nature, so that it’s no longer “marriage” but is, instead, something different.
Back in 2008, at the same time that President Obama was touting hissupport for heterosexual marriage in order to get elected (as he did again in 2012 in order to get reelected), Eich donated $1,000 to the people backing Prop. 8, a ballot initiative in California saying that marriage is a heterosexual institution. As you may recall, at the time the “No Hate” crowd (or, as they cutely said “No8”) bypassed such things as using logic and persuasion to those opposed to gay marriage and went straight to thuggery instead. The one that sticks in my mind was the attempt to destroy the elderly Mormon owner of a El Coyote, a popular, gay-friendly L.A. eatery.
Eich’s donation was six years ago. Since then, the “No Haters” have effected a sea change in America, with state after state legalizing gay marriage. Wait, that’s not actually true. In state after state, voters have voted against gay marriage, only to have unelected federal judges say that the voters are bigots. President Obama, who stood against gay marriage as recently as his 2012 reelection, after which he suddenly “evolved” on the issue, has forced the military to recognize gay marriages, has bases hosting drag reviews, and is contemplating making the military a transsexual-friendly environment.
Obama wasn’t planning his pivot on gay marriage.
Biden ran ahead of him!
That gave him no choice.
Sources said Obama was furious at Biden for that move!
Which is one of the primary problems inherent in the Collective. Drones receive their education in part from WikiPedia entries written by teenage activists that have yet to graduate from high school.
So, if I had a company and someone that believed in gay marriage worked there, it would be OK if I ran this person off?
Today Alan Colmes was asked that very thing and he answered that he hoped that’s the way it would work in America from now on.
He also said publicly shaming individuals until their bosses fired them should be the new normal.
Gee.
I wonder how many laws that breaks?
From Twitter:
Eich quits. If opposing gay marriage in 2008 disqualifies you as chief executive, guess Hillary isn’t qualified to become president.
Tammy Bruce
Gay civil rights movement began to make sure people weren’t punished for who they were. Now look what you’ve become #gaygestapo @mozilla
A response:
Actually, they haven’t become what they hated.
They’ve become what they’ve always wanted to be.
Another:
It was never about equality. It was always about getting back at those they thought were their oppressors.
Two more put together:
One has to wonder if this intolerance on the part of the GLBT Left was an unavoidable consequence of the gay rights movement.
No. It was an unavoidable consequence of it being perverted by leftists.
@Nanny G:
I have stated, repeatedly, and for a long time here at FA, the homosexual movement has NOTHING to do with same-sex marriage. It has every thing to do with power, and the destruction of religious beliefs. Look at where we are now:
A president can use the White House as a bordello, can totally violate his oath of office and wipe his shoes on the Constitution, and he remains in office. But if he were to follow in the footsteps of a predecessor, and go on radio or TV saying a prayer to God, as FDR did, he would be hounded out of office.
A family, who owns a business, and applies their religious beliefs to the operation of that business, even closing its stores on Sunday so that its employees can attend church and be with their families on the day of the Lord, is hounded, drug through the courts and ridiculed by our government, all in the name of the leftist sacred cow, abortion.
University professors who profess a faith in God are denied tenure and full professorships. Their work, while recognized in their field, is trashed, lied about, and the professor is shunned like one would avoid a rabid dog.
Teachers are dismissed because they have the audacity to wear a golden cross on a chain around their neck. Children are suspended from school for saying grace before they eat.
The list goes on.
This is tyranny, pure and simple, and has nothing to do with “rights” but every thing to do with power. Now, if you support traditional marriage you will be hounded to the Gates of Hell until you lose your job. How is this any different than any other radical leftist group?
So what is next? If you are caught saying grace in a public restaurant will you now be subject to arrest, having your name and face plastered all across the local newspaper and TV screen? Will you be labeled a “H8er” by those who demand your total acceptance of their life styles? If you own a men’s shop and you refuse to hire a homosexual who wants to work in his Folsom Street Parade costume, will you be labeled a “bigot” because you are not tolerant of his clothing styles?
This is fascism and I have been telling everyone that for a while now. How is what happened to the latest causality of
cultural Marxismpolitical correctness any different than the history of others who were punished for speaking out against what they believed was wrong?The goal was never same-sex marriage. Never. It was always about control and forced acceptance of a life style that is antithetic to Christian beliefs. Perhaps people will understand that now.
@retire05: Pls give examples of professors who were denied tenure for professing a belief in God. Thanks
@RICH WHEELER:
Perhaps not denied tenure. I don’t know if universities give tenure to associate professors. But denied a promotion to full professorship, yes.
http://collegeinsurrection.com/2014/04/unc-prof-suffers-discrimination-after-converting-to-christianity/
@retire05: I googled Adams and found he’s CURRENTLY a tenured professor at UNC. Seems he’s doing well.
@RICH WHEELER:
Contact Professor Jacobson at Cornell and tell him you are personally vouching for Professor Adams well being.
Too bad Professor Adams had to sue UNC for religious discrimination, right? A law suit he won. Oh, wait, did you even know that?
Now, you want to tell me that Christians are not being persecuted for their religious faith in universities all over the nation, or children/elementary teachers are not being punished from trying to practice theirs? Are is that OK with you since you subscribe to the leftist doctrine?
@retire05: My comment to Nan was I didn’t believe Christian gays were discriminating against their fellow Christians You roared in. Said profs. were being denied tenure for there beliefs. Waiting
@RICH WHEELER:
Did you not say:
As well as saying to me:
to which I replied:
Do you know for a fact that UNC grants tenure to associate, as well as, full professors? Do you deny that Professor Adams sued over UNCs violation of his religious rights? Maybe you just bothered to Google a few facts (like his still being at UNC) but didn’t bother with all the facts. That would not be unusual for you. Do you, or do you not, consider denying a qualified candidate a full professorship based on his religious beliefs to be persecution over those religious beliefs?
@retire05: Adams is a tenured professor at UNC. Next case.
We know Christians have been persecuted around the world for 2000 years. We were questioning if gay Christians are discriminating against straight Christians. I submit they are not. You’re up.
GO GATORS
@RICH WHEELER:
Was he tenured when he was discriminated against? Yes, or no.
You were the one who told me to:
Are you having difficulty conversing with two people? More like you have your threads confused; again.
@retire05: You said “professors were denied tenure for professing a belief in God.” I say hogwash.
I’m gonna watch the tourney coming from Texas.
Since you are so big on semantics, what I actually said was:
You ask for an example; I provided one. Now you are trying to weasel out of what you actually said. No surprise. Never mind that you answered not ONE of my questions posed to you.
@retire05: You originally said denied tenure–later added full professorships.
Also used the plural professors. Name at least a couple denied TENURE.
You are not as tricky as you think o5.
This is what I originally said:
Post #6, which was actually my first post on this thread.
Having trouble tracking conversations, RW?
Why? Are you incapable of using Google?
Not trying to be “tricky.” That’s your forte.
@retire05: You haven’t named any denied tenure.Why is that?
@RICH WHEELER:
What do you not understand about
?
How many of my questions do you intend to not answer?
All you want to do is pick nits. You’re not as tricky as you think you are. Just the same old typical liberal obfuscation and diversion from you.
