The MSM cheers for as much economic damage as possible

Fox News host Chris Wallace is to Fox News as George Stephanopoulos is to ABC.  Both members of the allied uniparty system fuction for the same purpose.  Once you see the strings on the marionette is impossible to go back to a time when you did not see them. Wallace’s job is to manipulate his audience while giving the impression of questioning.

In today’s interview with Secretary Mnuchin the insufferable Wallace is cheering for as much economic damage as possible and questioning anyone who might dare have a more fact-based approach.  At one point Wallace even calls the CBO “independent experts”..

The biggest of all the bigger financial issues around the economic shut-down will ultimately come down to a battle this spring/summer over a massive bailout for state governments to replace their missing revenue.  States like California, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut & New York have been struggling with financial issues for years.

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”  ~ Rahm Emanuel

Long before the Wuhan Virus those states were near financial collapse.  The only thing keeping them afloat was as expanding economy, and new revenue as a result of President Trump’s economic policies (making bigger pies).

The economic shut-down in those specific states makes their preexisting financial trouble exponentially worse.

Not only will CA, NJ, IL, CT and New York demand a bailout, a very massive bailout to cover their revenue shortfall, but they will almost certainly use the wuhan virus as an excuse to cover and bail-out preexisting budget deficits.  Governor Andrew Cuomo hinted toward his intention weeks ago.  He sees this as an opportunity to get federal money.

So when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell throws a bucket of ice water in the face of blue state governors who were anticipating to “make money” by forcing the country to subsidize their overindulgent spending habits, obviously Cuomo is apoplectic.

For several decades, and particularly since 2008, the issue of unfunded liabilities has been a growing problem for the Blue State governors.  One reason Obamacare was created was to address this issue on the union and healthcare side. However, the underlying over-spending by state legislators/governors was never addressed.

The solution of allowing states to declare bankruptcy has been a part of that discussion for years. However, every Blue state governor knows if they declare bankruptcy they will never sell another bond again…. which means no investment… which means they will implode.

If the laws changed allowing states to declare bankruptcy, internally the blue states would collapse… there would be a massive exodus… people would flee the rust and collapse…. housing values would plummet overnight in Blue states…. business would leave… unemployment would skyrocket…. it would be statewide chaos.

The ultimate result would be smaller populations within the Blue state misery zones.

“You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” ~ Rahm Emanuel

Perhaps the Republicans should embrace this. If a state wants financial help, they will have to give the federal government say in how the money is spent and allow reorganization… basically what happens under bankruptcy. Spending money on illegal immigrants, supporting transgender fantasies, pursuing the climate change scam and any other wasteful liberal agenda would be forbidden until the money is paid back. Before they get more taxpayer money, the source of their economic disasters should be eliminated.

Address the need for funds on a city level, not state. That way, red states that have some blue sanctuary cities within can use the leverage of providing funds to eliminate the illegal sanctuary policies.

Turning more huge amounts of borrowed and printed cash to irresponsible liberal idiots is a recipe for disaster.

April 28, 2020 – States tell workers they’ll lose unemployment benefits if they refuse to return to jobs

Some states that are reopening parts of their economies have warned employees that they’ll lose their unemployment benefits if they refuse to go back to work for their employers, even if they’re worried about contracting the coronavirus.

“If you’re an employer and you offer to bring your employee back to work and they decide not to, that’s a voluntary quit,” Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) said Friday. “Therefore, they would not be eligible for the unemployment money.”

Reynolds also said employers who have workers that refuse to return should file a report with Iowa Workforce Development.

On Monday, the governor announced that she was loosening social distancing restrictions in 77 of Iowa’s 99 counties, effective May 1.

“In the 77 counties, the proclamation permits restaurants, fitness centers, malls, libraries, race tracks, and certain other retail establishments to reopen in a limited fashion with public health measures in place,” the governor’s office said in a statement.

Reynolds said the 77 counties have either seen a steady decline in new cases or no new cases at all for the past two weeks, one of the main benchmarks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention set for states wanting to reopen their economies.

The only exception for workers getting unemployment after not returning to work is if they are ill with the virus or taking care of a family member who has the deadly disease.

The situation is similar for workers in Texas, where Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Monday gave the go-ahead for retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters and malls to reopen on Friday.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, to qualify for unemployment benefits in the state, a worker must be “willing and able to work all the days and hours required for the type of work you are seeking.”

Cisco Gamez, a Texas Workforce Commission spokesman, told the Texas Tribune that employees who choose not to return to work will become ineligible for unemployment benefits.

More than 25 million Americans have filed for jobless benefits since mid-March.

April 28, 2020 – Trump orders meat processing plants to remain open

Maybe they should first figure out why multiple meat-processing plants across multiple states have become fizzing COVID-19 petri dishes. Two Iowa plants, at Tama and Columbus Junction, have both become COVID-19 hot spots. Thousands of meat industry employees have tested positive in the U.S. and Canada.

The President’s order and the Governor of Iowa’s order together have the effect of forcing meat packing employees in Iowa to either report back to the petri dish or lose their family income.

@Greg: So no change at all in the unemployment rules, if you refuse to go back to work after a lay off you get no more unemployment benefits.
It took 11 paragraphs to say what I said in one. Marty is a wordy bastid.
The processing plants are cold and dry with stainless steel surfaces, often they hire minorities that may travel over the border for visits or their family might. https://www.newsmax.com/tomfitton/covid19-coronavirus-mexican-hospital/2020/04/27/id/964836/ I say put plexiglass walls between workers on the lines, face shields and masks and stagger breaks, temperatures of all employees taken before shifts, testing once a week.

@Greg: People that work in meat processing plants never encounter any other people?

@Deplorable Me, #4:

I would think no more or less than many people who are part of other occupational groups.

@Greg: Yet you are certain they became infected at the workplace.

@Deplorable Me, #6:

That’s the logical conclusion when the processing plant is what a majority of infected people all have in common, and when you see the same pattern being repeated in dozens of widely separated communities with the same industry.

The CDC has issued COVID-19 guidelines for the meatpacking industry, but compliance is optional. Compliance should be mandatory. OSHA has the power to enforce such rules. For some reason, they’re characterizing their rules as recommendations. They’re a regulatory agency. They’re supposed to regulate to assure workplace health and safety, not issue optional suggestions.

April 29, 2020 – CDC, OSHA issue revised guidance for meat processing industry

@Greg: “logical conclusions” that serve a political purpose is not science.

Epidemiology is a science. Logic is built into the analysis and methodology.

@Greg: China owns many of these plants yes they need to be made to comply American owned plants will make the efforts without much arm twisting, they dont have the bank of china covering losses.

@Greg: So is climatology. Doesn’t mean it can’t be manipulated to achieve a political goal.
