It’s almost like he WANTS America to fail.

Barack Obama put 3.1 million Americans on disability since June 2009. Obama only created 2.6 million jobs in the same period.
Investor’s Business Daily reported:

More workers joined the federal government’s disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation’s jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama’s recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

I’m hearing about this from aging (but not old enough to retire) baby boomers.
They see their co-workers doing it to get off the job earlier than their SS would otherwise allow.
Maybe by just a couple of years.
But they are worn out.
Bosses have been squeezing out more and more productivity from fewer and fewer workers for a couple years now.
Something was going to have to give.
I think there may be less fraud in these high numbers than one might initially suspect.
And, if we had a thriving economy, we would probably not even dote on it.

I saw this statistic, but I’ve reserved judgement on the specifics. While I personally know some that are exploiting both the unemployment and disability system, there is also the reality that the amount of veterans that have been disabled in the Iraq/Afghanistan wars also are some that are going on disability in record numbers. Not surprising. And believe me, I have no issues with that.

I’ve not seen a breakdown of the the June disability numbers, but I would be curious to know what percentage of them were veterans. So I’d be extremely cautious about throwing out subtle accusations that all of them are bums, scamming the system… lest it come back to haunt.

The Baby Boomers are breaking down as they approach old age. The obesity epidemic hasn’t helped. To that, add private industry ridding itself of workers it considers less productive. Wal-Mart eliminating store greeters, for example. Jobs for people with disabilities have become fewer.

What does the rate of disabled Americans have to do with the rate of unemployed ones? Unless you subscribe to some heinous conspiracy theory.
