The Blaze:
WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — A Marine Corps spokesman confirmed the Marines’ recruiting website was tampered with and redirected temporarily Monday but said no information was compromised in the attack.
The Syrian Electronic Army is supposedly responsible for this attack, adding it to its list of other high-profile defacements.
Capt. Eric Flanagan wouldn’t say who was responsible for the hacking, but the site was redirected to a message from the Syrian Electronic Army, a hacker group that has also claimed responsibility for disrupting the New York Times website, Twitter and other media sites the group sees as sympathetic to Syria’s rebels.
The message to the Marine Corps was a plea for Americans to fight alongside the Syrian army and not aide the rebels.
The website then went on to post the images supposed U.S. military members holding up signs voicing their opposition to a possible strike in Syria. TheBlaze has a poll asking if these images are “treason” or “free speech.”
The Marines’ website is now operating normally.
Meantime Obama wants to stop public briefings on Syria.
Under the hat.
Why?
Weren’t there supposed to be public briefings in the Senate today?
Now, maybe the Senate will have a hearing but it will be behind closed doors?
LOL! It seems the Syrian Electronic Army has a sense of humor. That poignant message, and it’s bizarre truth, has gotta hurt.
Well, at least with the “speed” of Congress, we can be assured that we won’t be attacking Syria on Sept 11th, lending an odd perspective to that day when the US, formerly attacked by AQ and affiliates, stood with the same in Syria. That would have been a bit much for me to stomach.
