It’s been eighteen months now since ObamaCare was signed into law and the health policy wonks of liberal academia, having fulfilled their duty as advocates for the
legislationAdministration, have transitioned back into their more traditional roles of producing scholarly research which no one pays much attention to. But perhaps we should because I ran across an interesting blurb in the June 2011 issue of the Journal of Health Policy, Politics, and Law entitled: “Where did the Public Option Come From and Where is it Going?”. The article is not available online but here is the excerpt that caught my eye:The very existence of the public- option idea as part of the health reform policy package became iconic, representing the continuing debate over the proper role of government in the financing of health care. As the debate moved from the policy community to the political arena, the most significant problem was the evident value differences over this idea. Critics called the public option a Trojan horse for a single- payer plan. They were correct.
Yes – yes, we were. Funny how such a fact can be admitted so casually now, two years past the heat of debate, as if it were obvious all along. Well it was to anyone with inside information or paying very close attention, but there was a well-orchestrated campaign to deceive the broader public over this which involved almost every major element of the institutional left, including very prominent players within the government and the media. It was in fact a conspiracy, one which went all the way to the very top. The President himself lied to the American people about this, brazenly and repeatedly.
Yeah, now tell us something we didn’t know.
Drudge, Forbes, the Hill and others are claiming one of ObamaCare’s big promises, coverage for long-term care insurance is being shelved due to such high prices for it.
WH junks plan for long-term care…
