United Parcel Service Inc. plans to remove thousands of spouses from its medical plan because they are eligible for coverage elsewhere. The Atlanta-based logistics company points to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as a big reason for the decision, reports Kaiser Health News.
The decision comes as many analysts are downplaying the Affordable Care Act’s effect on companies such as UPS, noting that the move reflects a long-term trend of shrinking corporate medical benefits, Kaiser Health News reports. But UPS repeatedly cites Obamacare to explain the decision, adding fuel to the debate over whether it erodes traditional employer coverage, Kaiser says.Rising medical costs, “combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost,” UPS said in a memo to employees.
white-collar workers two months ago that 15,000 working spouses eligible for coverage by their own employers would be excluded from the UPS plan in 2014.
I guess they had to pass it to know what’s in it. And it gets scarier everyday.
See, having a spouse’s insurance as the primary and then your employer’s as the secondary insurance generally meant you had little to no co-pays since the secondary insurance would cover the deductible and copays left over after the primary insurance paid. This worked for many families. But under the new obamacare insanity, the costs of providing health insurance for spouses and family members is skyrocketing for employers, hence this reaction from UPS and other companies.
So as always happens, another leftwing magical-thinking plan to “help” the poor and downtrodden has actually made things far worse for everyone…except the government apparatachiks, who get their health insurance costs paid for by all us stupid taxpayers.
Obamacare is pure evil. It does NOTHING its progressive zealots said it would do, but it does EVERYTHING that those of us who oppose it have always said it would do. What is so tragic is that there are people remaining so clueless not to recognize these simple facts:
1. Health insurance premiums are skyrocketing under obamacare, not “decreasing by $2500 per family”, or “by 3000 percent” as Obama claimed it would do.
2. People are being dropped from their employer-covered insurance because the costs are too high under obamacare. This is happening either because hours are cut to less than 30 per week and thus making the employee part-time and not covered under the employer mandate, or through outright cuts in coverage like UPS is doing to spouses. This would not be happening if obamacare was capable of decreasing health insurance costs.
3. Obamacare was billed as necessary due to “30 million people not having health care insurance”… well then how, if obamacare is supposed to fix this problem, could there possibly be (per the CBO report from a couple weeks ago) projections for 30 million people to be without health insurance under obamacare in 2022?
It needs to be repealed. It is not working as propagandized, and is in fact doing all the horrible things we detractors said it would cause. Feelgoodism does not work, especially when practiced by government bureaucrats. Charity must be freely given with selfless motive. Obamacare is most certainly NOT charitable. It is a government sanctioned baseball bat applied repeatedly to the head and groin until the victim agrees to submit to the authority of the state.
Obamacare delenda est.
So….you’re blaming Obama for this? Mmm’k.
@This one: No, he was playing basketball or golf when it was passed before anyone read it. He did sign it didn’t he? Maybe it was the dog who spends more time in the White House than Obama.
Obama IS to blame. He ran for President on this plan, he promoted it, and the Democrats disgustingly passed it!! If Bush where President YOU would blame him for certain!! Who do you blame for this disaster??
