Rush: Bachmann Might Have Jumped The Shark

Another RINO joins the establishment.

What we really need to beat Obama is a candidate who peddles all sorts of fringe-y positions, and who either reports, without checking, or simply makes up stories about fringe-y paranoids’ daughters getting a dose of late-onset mental retardation.

Call me crazy, but shouldn’t “Doctor” Bachmann have a little bit of skepticism about a claim that a 12 year old girl became mentally retarded after a vaccination?

Ah well, any political club will do for the candidate whose only executive experience was as a tax collector for the IRS, a woman who began running for president months after she first ran for Congress (and served without distinction as a back-bencher of little influence), a woman who’s always had a bucket-full of clawing ambition and a thimble-full of actual qualification.

Bachmann:
I had a mother come up to me last night here in Tampa, Fla., after the debate. She told me that her little daughter took that vaccine, that injection. And she suffered from mental retardation thereafter. The mother was crying when she came up to me last night. I didn’t know who she was before the debate. This is the very real concern and people have to draw their own conclusions. http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-bachmann-perry-hpv-20110913,0,7587306.story

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), “mental retardation” is not a side effect of this vaccine.
Known side effects include local injection site reactions, fainting, dizziness, nausea and headaches, as well as hypersensitivity reactions like rashes, hives and itching — all noted on the drug’s labeling.

The vaccine’s label also makes note of more serious but rare adverse events like Guillain-Barré syndrome, pregnancy and death, but analysis of the data show that these events were not connected to the vaccine. Rather they coincidentally occurred in people who also got the vaccine.

If Rep. Bachmann wants to use such anecdotal claims from her supporters she would do well to VET them.

Damn, I just used the same phrase over at Wizbang. This is definitely a Jump the Shark moment, no ifs, buts, etc.
