I’m trying to keep up with the liberal standards on this one. If I understand it correctly, it would have been racially insensitive at best for Romney to have skipped the NAACP meeting. It would have been condescending pandering for him to go there and only say things that would win applause. And it was race-baiting to say things that drew boos as well as things that drew applause.
So in short the way for Romney to avoid charges of having given racial offense is, I take it, this: Curl up and die. Simple.

That’s right. Romney would have been blamed regardless of whether he went or didn’t go to the NAACP—and whatever he said. At least by going, and sticking to his talking points, he satisfied his base—although he relinquished any improvement in his 2% support in that community.
