Ah, watching Perry debate Obama would be a thing of beauty. Obama, who never leaves the White House without his teleprompter vs. Perry, who more often than not, will walk to a podium, lay down his prepared speech, grab the mike and stand down by the crowd giving an animated, rip roaring speech for 40 minutes.
The man who claims to have campaigned in 57 states vs. the man who can rattle off the 18 enumerated powers of the Constitution like a Constitutional scholar.
Yep, it would be a thing of beauty.
What most people don’t know about Rick Perry:
whenever a soldier from Texas is killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, Rick Perry calls the families on his personal cell phone. He gives them his number and tells them to contact him directly if they need anything. And when Marcus Luttrell of Lone Survivor fame came home from Walter Reed, broken and mentally rattled after losing his entire SEAL team, it was Rick Perry that took Marcus in and it was Rick and Anita Perry that made sure Marcus got the physical and mental help needed to repair Marcus’ tattered life. But it didn’t end there. Rick has taken in a number of veterans like Marcus, making sure that our Texas veterans from the war zone get the help they need to get over the trauma of war. Last time I talked to Rick, he had another SEAL living with them.
When the ACLU was trying to destroy the Boy Scouts, Rick Perry wrote a book defending them. When he saw that seniors were having a hard time with ad valorum taxes, he encouraged legislation that lowered those taxes. He has fought the Democrats in Austin who want a state income tax, demanding fiscal responsibility from school districts (who think they can spend like they have an unlimited source of funds), placed the Texas Rangers on the border, called the legislation back into session to enact legislation that would make “sanctuary” cities illegal in Texas and give the AG the right to prosecute any city official that refused to honor federal immigration laws, has created more jobs in Texas in the last 10 years than all other states combined, keep our unemployment to 7.7%, ordered our AG to sue the federal government over the EPA’s “clean air” grab, (how unique, a state suing the feds, and not the other way around), and understands that you can’t spend what you don’t have in your bank account.
Also, Perry is not strongly connected to the Bush’s. G.H.W. Bush came out for Kay Bailey Hutchison in the primary. She lost, Rick won. He has also been critical of Bush, Jr.’s spending philosophies. Has Rick made mistakes in the last 10 years? Yes, and the trolls will drag out the Gardisil issue (Rick was acting on the recommendations of the feds in that issue) but will never tell you that from the git-go, parents could op-out, and they will drag out the TTC, a Bush plan initiated while Bush was still governor. Perry backed off the TTC saying he still thought it a good idea, but Texans did not and it was “their” state.
Perry would be good for this nation. Unlike Mitt Romney, who the media is trying to sell us on, much like they did with McCain.

Whoever the nominee is going to be needs to be someone who can win the South and who has a strong record he/she can run on. Simply running against Obama’s failures may not be enough. Perry seems able to accomplish both. He is the successful governor of the second largest state both in population and land area.
Comparing leadership abilities, Obama will have had a little over 3 years as prez and seems to be in a perpetual state of OJT compared to 10 years for Perry. Kind of like Carter vs. Reagan. The election would certainly center around records, particularly Obama’s with regards to jobs, deficits, and security. Under Obama the country lost jobs. Under Perry, Texas gained jobs. Under Obama the deficits skyrocketed to unsustainable levels. Under Perry, deficits were cut. As for security, the southern border will be an issue next election. Obama can tell everyone how much more secure it is under him but Perry would eat him alive on this issue given that he has had to use state resources to do what the Federal government is supposed to be doing. I read something today whereby some of the ‘experts’ claim he is too conservative and would be labeled ‘extreme’ thus making him unelectable, but they said the same thing about Reagan and Obama isn’t exactly middle of road. I’d like to see him throw his hat in the ring to see more of what he has to offer and how he plans on getting us out of this mess.
