David French:
From age five she colored herself with a brown crayon, and she declared unequivocally, “I identify as black.” Now, watch Matt Lauer grill her this morning on Today, using pictures showing her at different stages of her life, and her contrasting positions about her own ethnicity (she actually sued Howard University alleging that the school discriminated against her because she was white). Her responses, of course, are absurd if you desire to live in a world where the truth matters. But if you want to truly explore how the Left applauds one kind of troubled falsehood and attacks another, contrast Lauer’s interview of Dolezal with Katie Couric’s fawning interview of Laverne Cox. Here’s Lauer:

And now here’s Couric fawning over Cox, including groveling for not using exactly the right line of questioning the last time she interviewed Cox:
Dolezal is simply someone looking for an angle to the gravy train. She tried riding in the white section at Howard, but, like most other whites, learned that whites aren’t discriminated against…. EVER. Then she latched onto the “I was born a poor black child” angle and it paid off… for a while.
How is the left taking the news that she once sued because, as a white person, blacks were getting all the benefits? Has she “evolved”?
She probably got the idea in 1998 when New Yorker, author Toni Morrison described Bill Clinton as the “first black president.”
All words and labels lose their meaning when Democrats are involved.
