Victims say that officers in the borough of Tower Hamlets have ignored or downplayed outbreaks of hate crime, and suppressed evidence implicating Muslims in them, because they fear being accused of racism.
The claims come as four Tower Hamlets Muslims were jailed for at least 19 years for attacking a local white teacher who gave religious studies lessons to Muslim girls.
The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered more than a dozen other cases in Tower Hamlets where both Muslims and non-Muslims have been threatened or beaten for behaviour deemed to breach fundamentalist “Islamic norms.”
One victim, Mohammed Monzur Rahman, said he was left partially blind and with a dislocated shoulder after being attacked by a mob in Cannon Street Road, Shadwell, for smoking during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last year.
“Two guys stopped me in the street and asked me why I was smoking,” he said. “I just carried on, and before I knew another dozen guys came and jumped me. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in hospital.”
“He reported it to the police and they just said they couldn’t track anyone down and there were no witnesses,” said Ansar Ahmed Ullah, a local anti-extremism campaigner who has advised Mr Rahman. “But there is CCTV in that street and it is lined with shops and people.”
Teachers in several local schools have told The Sunday Telegraph that they feel “under pressure” from local Muslim extremists, who have mounted campaigns through both parents and pupils – and, in one case, through another teacher – to enforce the compulsory wearing of the veil for Muslim girls. “It was totally orchestrated,” said one teacher. “The atmosphere became extremely unpleasant for a while, with constant verbal aggression from both the children and some parents against the head over this issue.”
I don’t know whether this is a result of the British push to bring a lot of Muslims into the police departments or whether it is just white/colonialist-guilt transformed into national suicide.
Whichever, the fact that police are slow about finding perps is very troubling.
It is also very troubling when they do find a perp but let him off with a wrist-slap, like the Muslim they arrested who was putting out the warnings against gays in one London area.
100 pounds is a very light penalty considering the threats he published were backed up by beatings on the streets.
Curt I can only say this is very close to being a common occurrence in the States as well! I have several friends (Israelis) who work with a unit in a Federal law enforcement agency. I cannot converge all that they have told me but I will say this, our law enforcement officers are being left in the dark! Here in the United States there many terrorist cells that are known to the authorities and the public (which sometimes it is better not to alarm) and Law enforcement are not made aware of the presence of those cells in their cities. Not only so they have more than 160 estimated arms storage areas all around the United States. These are the ones that are known! The protocol for the agencies to take any action are at best dis-functional. The military has no preparedness protocol either and the agencies think and treat the investigation of terrorist as if they are criminals…..Big Mistake!

Do you think there could be a method to the madness of this nation being destroyed from within? (United States) Does anyone remember back in the 90’s when commie clinton and her worthless husband were in office in one of the national forests out west three men were arrested supposedly burying an underground arsenal? I happened to catch it once and that was it, nothing else. Supposedly the KGB (Which by the way never went away only changed their name) over the last 30 plus years has went into public areas and made weapons caches for use in case the russians got lucky and tried to take over this nation.
