Sen. Dianne Feinstein, one of the Senate’s leading voices on gun control, called for stricter gun laws in the aftermath of Monday’s massacre at Washington’s Navy Yard.

The California Democrat said the deaths of the 12 people on Monday were at the hands of a man armed with an AR-15, a shotgun, and a semiautomatic handgun in this latest push, though details of his weapons have not been confirmed.

Her statement reads in part:

“This is one more event to add to the litany of massacres that occur when a deranged person or grievance killer is able to obtain multiple weapons—including a military-style assault rifle—and kill many people in a short amount of time. When will enough be enough? Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country. We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.”

Nice try. I’d say radical loon wingnut Alex Jones wins:

“Alex Jones: Globalist conspiracy created Navy Yard ‘patsy’ shooter to ‘discredit’ me”
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/09/16/alex-jones-globalist-conspiracy-created-navy-yard-patsy-shooter-to-discredit-me/

This has nothing to do with responsible gun use, and more to do with poor security, and a failure to monitor the criminal activities of civilian contractors with security clearances. This prick received a dishonorable discharge, was twice before charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, yet apparently still retained his base access badge and security clearance.

**LIVE UPDATES** FBI Rules Out Possibility of Second Navy Yard Shooter

10:10pm – CNN reporting on-air that Alexis purchased an AR-15 rifle from a gun shop in Virginia, according to an FBI source. However, NBC News previously reported that Alexis obtained an “assault rifle” from a gun safe at the base, based on information from law enforcement. The Washington Post says Alexis bought a shotgun in Lorton, VA—no mention of an AR-15.

[Alexis] appeared to have a government contractor access card that would have allowed him onto the Navy Yard and other military installations, according to the company’s CEO Thomas Hoshko…

Alexis had a security clearance that was updated in July, approved by military security service personnel.

“There had to be a thorough investigation,” Hoshko said. “There is nothing that came up in all the searches.”

6:15pm – The Seattle Police Department published the details surrounding Aaron Alexis’ shooting out the tire of another man’s car in 2004:

At about 8 am that morning, two construction workers had parked their 1986 Honda Accord in the driveway of their worksite, next to a home where Alexis was staying in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

So, why didn’t that come up in his security investigation? Or the time he fired into a neighbor’s apartment?

Clearly there are problems with the way security clearances are managed. The White House should have started reviewing the process after Snowden. More incompetence for the current progressive appointed Pentagon leadership.

I have a question. Aren’t guns banned in Washington D.C. already? He got one anyway.

@Ditto:

Noooooo…..assault weapons was not a factor in this. Wingnut deniers and the Senate-all of them-should be ashamed of themselves for not taking care of this after Sandy Hook when they had a chance.

@This one:
There are already laws on tbe books making everything the murderer did illegal. He was schizophrenic, by definition, if the reports are true that the shooter had been hearing voices. He should not have been able to obtain a firearm because of his mental illness. Even mentally ill, he certainly knew to go to a gun free zone to act out his fantasy, didn’t he? Perhaps if the mentally ill weren’t allowed to walk around free, like Loughner, and the Sandy Hook shooter, and now the naval yard shooter, these tragedies wouldn’t happen. You leftwing troglodytes are despicable scum for your repeated attempts to use the mentally ill as an excuse to take away our second amendment right to self protection.
A firearm is a tool, just like a car, or an airplane. Cars and airplanes have been used to kill people, so using your moronic leftwing thought processes, we should ban cars and planes. The real issue here is dealing with the mentally ill appropriately, to ensure they cannot get firearms, not a ban on private firearm ownership.

It was really easy for him to get his hands on a handgun… kill the armed security guard who had gotten complacent, and take his. Easy peasy, even “This One” could do it. Any bets on which party the shooter voted for in the last election?

@Pete:

Yeah, and as the right likes to point out, sticks can kill people too. So Duh…should we ban sticks? Lol! You’re the “troglodyte scum.”

Yet you still admit the crux of the situation; “He should not have been able to obtain a firearm because of his mental illness.”

This weirdo was describing hearing voices, suffering blackouts, having noisy vibrations coming from his ceiling and floor YET no one remembered he had guns so as to take them away from him!

Now Obama wants people hired without any background checks because those ”discriminate” against blacks.
But had a criminal background check been done on him, he might have passed.
Police also give blacks many free passes before arresting them.

The PC US Navy gave him 8 passes for bad conduct, still discharging him honorably!
Just like they kept commending Nidal Hasan right up until the day he murdered 13 people.

Apparently we should blame Obama for this guy being on the loose with guns.
A strict following of the gun laws on the books today as well as a record of bad acts not pretended to not exist because of color would have prevented this shooting.
That’s not to say he couldn’t still have gone off the rails.
Just without his shotgun.

@This one:
Ooo…ouch. I am so hurt that a leftwing moron called me a name.

The fact that you make my own point for me just shows your lack of awareness of your own self-parody. The mentally ill should not be able to obtain firearms. That does not mean everyone should be prohibited from owning them.

I do find it interesting that CNN just reported the shooter was a liberal fan of Obama, according to his friend. Loughner was leftwing as well. So was the guy who flew his plane into the IRS building a couple of years ago. Yet for some strange reason, you leftists are always trying to claim the right is the side of violence and craziness. There hasn’t been a single criminal shooting incident perpetrated by anyone on the right, so there is no basis for taking away the right to bear arms from honest citizens without mental illness.

@enchanted:

I have a question. Aren’t guns banned in Washington D.C. already? He got one anyway.

enchanted, I’m not sure if guns are banned or if people are banned from owning them. At any rate, it’s safe to say that the gun didn’t know it was banned so it went ahead and consented to be used by the shooter. So much for gun laws, as the guns just don’t understand their rights. I personally think the guy with the gun was the problem, not the gun itself. But then I’m conservative.

@This one: That has to do with the rights of the person, not the right of the gun. I think you’ll see that all conservatives are in favor of mentally ill persons not being allowed to purchase weapons. It’s the weapon itself that the Lib nuts want to ban. I have several guns in my house, and everytime I look, they’re right where I left them. None of them have gotten up on their own and gone out and shot anyone.

One man at the Navy Shipyard was killed with an AR-15.
The shooter!
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/18/us/washington-navy-yard-shootings.html?hp&_r=1&
Officers armed with AR-15s killed the shooter.

I think the mental illness is secondary as a cause to kill,
many affected with mental illness are mild manners, this one had a violent streak
along with it, cause by many different factors, or one or more of those,
it could even be genetic having a short fuse uncontrolled, from a tare given from the gene ribbon,
which outline the HATE BUTTON TO BE PUSH FOR ANY EXCUSE THEY COULD FIND,
REFERE TO THE HASSAN terrorist killer,
AND NOW TO THAT AARON ALEXIS DELIBERATE KILLER OF ANYTHING WHICH RECALLED NAVY TO HIM,
AND THEIR MIND IS SO PROGRAMMED BY THIS HATE ADDING SHORT FUSE,
THEY ARE WALKING BOMBS
