How do we know that? He canceled a $32,000 a plate Hollywood dinner!

President Obama has scrapped a planned two-day trip to Los Angeles early next week ahead of a congressional vote on a military strike against Syria.

The cancellation of the trip suggests the urgency with which Obama needs to press his case to win approval from Congress for military action.

“The president’s trip to California has been cancelled,” a White House official said. “He will remain in Washington to work on the Syrian resolution before Congress.”

While prospects for passage of a resolution in the Senate look positive, the White House does not appear to have the votes in the lower chamber to win — at least not yet.

The president had been scheduled to speak to a convention of the AFL-CIO while in California, in what the White House had billed as a continuation of his middle class jobs tour.

He was also scheduled to attend a $32,400 per plate dinner at the home of Marta Kauffman, the co-creator of the sitcom “Friends.”

As Al Gore would say .. “He’s Syria-L”

Besides, his trip to the AFL-CIO won’t create or save any jobs

And Cantor was courting oil company lobbyists when he was invited to speak at the MLK anniversary. Then Fox News reported no GOP was invited.

The right will find a way to tear into Obama no matter what. If he
bombed without consulting Congress, he’s a traitor or pro Al Queda. Now that he wants to
consult Congress, he’s weak. If he does nothing, he’s pro-Muslim.

Funny thing is, it was just a few years ago when these same people were calling to ‘nuke’ all the Muslims and it didn’t matter if we we’re lied into a war by Bush and Co. Wingnuts=hypocrites.

Unlike wingnuts who walk in lock step with what their party leaders preach, Progressives question everything and everyone. I do not support action in Syria. I will support Obama if he does, just like I initially supported Bush-until I realized he lied to us all.

That being said….I also don’t know if I can live in a world where a super power does nothing when a rouge nation kills civilians with chemical weapons and soldiers are summarily executed.

@This one:
Your entries are self parody, really.
Leftists don’t march in lockstep? You really wrote that?
Using your logic regarding superpower intervention, then I assume you support the immediate attack of Iran and North Korea?

This Won

you said “Unlike wingnuts who walk in lock step with what their party leaders preach,” you then state ” I do not support action in Syria. I will support Obama if he does.” Could you explain the meaning of lock step?

@halfacarafe: I also said I supported my President and my country when Bush invaded Iraq, which I didn’t agree with. It’s called patriotism, I believe. The right should try it once in a while.

This One needs to talk to people outside of his Daily Kos asylum dayroom. It’s sad really.

This is not a Democrat v. Republican issue. A majority of the public in bipartisan agreement are against Obama’s planned military action against Syria. So far it is only the White House, a small number of Senators, the French (only if Congress supports Obama,) and the most rabid of Obama supporters who have come out in favor.

The UN Secretary General has stated that if Obama launches his “limited missile attack” it will be an illegal military action. It is the UN’s responsibility to enforce the Geneva Convention, not the US.

I think there’s a back story to Obama not having that fundraising dinner.
The AFL-CIO just lost 40,000 members!
And that’s just the Longshoremen!
They lose members all the time on top of that.
They are opposed to ObamaCare.
They are assisting in these phony ”strikes” by fast food and Wal-Mart workers because their own pay scale rises IF the minimum wage goes up.
In other words, they are broke.
They very likely couldn’t have filled the seats at a $32,400 per plate dinner.
Obama was SAVED by the ”Syrian crisis.”

But I have to question if Obama is really serious, or if this is yet another big distraction to take the MSM & public eye off the ball of “Immigration Reform” and the Obamacare train wreck.

It’s called patriotism, I believe. The right should try it once in a while.

We tried patriotism, and liked it so much that we started many Tea Parties around the country based on patriotism. Patriots fight for their COUNTRY, not their leaders. Even the founding fathers were scared of the government they created. They created the militia to protect us against our own government, not other governments.

@Ditto: Wrong, Obama is now courting Tea Party loons for approval becasue ‘rabid Obama supporters’ are not in support of striking Syria.

@Smorgasbord: And Tea Party loons were formed by the Koch brothers to buy elections under the guise of ‘taxed enough already,’ when in fact they were paying less taxes than under Bush. Koch was playing off the fear and racism of uninformed goober, pure and simple

@This one:

You should change your name to clueless. It fits better. If you ever actually attended some tea party gatherings you would know your statements are false. Instead you rely on other left wing “nuts” to feed your own personal prejudices and then display it here without actual first hand knowledge of that which you profess. But you don’t know and yet you cling to your false premise and never consider anything else.
I guess you graduated first in your class of Luddites. It shows so well.

@Pete: Please – do not feed the trolls!

@Nan G: Whoa! — the ILWU is NOT against obie care — they WANT and DEMAND Single payer — i.e. FULL government control over everything — the AFL-CIO is playing along – playing their part just to get the dam crap fully enacted — the whole thing between these two branches of the CPUSA is a scam — not to worry a year or so they will all quietly make up and crawl back under the same covers and start pushing together for single payer — mark my words.

@Mully: whoa — why do you give this troll any credit for being clueless? — he is in fact a propagandist — your statement:

Instead you rely on other left wing “nuts” to feed your own personal prejudices

Begs the question: May it occur to you that “This One” may actually be one of those “other left wing nuts”?

Starve the trolls — you are all wasting your time.

@Budvarakbar:

I don’t doubt for a minute he/she is in that category. Perhaps I am a bit of a hopeless optimist that he/she could be jolted into actually checking for further information outside of their narrow world view and maybe learn something. Just looking for a little diversity of thought to creep in. This one is particularly adept at hit and run posts.

Case in point it’s not all that hard to find out that Rick Santelli is known as the father of the tea party and not anyone associated with the Koch brothers. It’s about as grass roots as one can get. But those on the left need enemies to hate. So the Koch brothers will do in this case and the trolls here will cling to that without fail.
In my experience most of those on the left profess tolerance and diversity, yet they simply cannot tolerate diversity that does not fit within their narrow definition of it.

@Mully:

In my experience most of those on the left profess tolerance and diversity, yet they simply cannot tolerate diversity that does not fit within their narrow definition of it.

In my experience they may profess tolerance and diversity – but only practice it when being watched — (or while being ‘seen’) —

Also I find a “narrow definition” of diversity – to be an oxymoron. Kind of like maybe you were thinking – cafeteria diversity — ?

@Budvarakbar:

In my experience they may profess tolerance and diversity – but only practice it when being watched — (or while being ‘seen’) —

Continuing my own statement since comment editor isn’t pulling it up:

Their profession of tolerance and diversity is brainwashing to their ‘enemies’ – first to lull their “enemies” into complacency and second to shame or instill a guilt complex against the necessary elements of human survival — THEY are NOT on America’s side.

This CRAP has worked beyond their wildest dreams in the US!

@Budvarakbar:

The narrow definition is pretty much on display at many universities in the US. There are now speech codes of what is and is not accepted. Much of this is made up by liberal faculty and student leaders at the institutions. Universities are supposed to be placed of higher learning and not indoctrination factories. Which I believe some of the more outspoken on the left don’t realize just how narrow minded or closed minded they come off when trying to argue a point. They don’t welcome conservative speakers to have an open and honest debate. They do their best to shut them out all together.

The most recent example of this happened at Michigan State just a few days ago with a professor lambasting republicans. He was not inviting dissent but making sure it was shut down. Many a conservative student has had to modify a paper so as not to get a poor grade. Something liberal students are probably not familiar with.

This kind of intolerance should not happen but it does. It’s accepted on the left. Some may actually realize they are being intolerance, but to them they are being intolerant to what they believe is hate speech.

@This one: both elections were bought for Obama. He spent more, and got more from corporations and the wealthy.

@Budvarakbar:

You’re right of course, but Dat Bum loves to toss out the laughably dumbest, and most easily proven wrong lies, that it’s almost fun to beat it about the head with the truth. ‘Obama courting the TEA Party is the most hilarious lie it’s wrote yet. ‘ The TEA Party groups are out protesting Obama taking military action.

Tea Party Groups Nationwide Unite Against American Attack on Syria

Tea Party activists appear to be virtually unanimous in their support for the position taken by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), who said on Tuesday the United States “should not serve as Al-Qaeda’s Air Force.”

Now, if Obama were ‘courting the TEA Party,’ he would be come out with a statement that he is opposed to the US taking unilateral military action in Syria. He hasn’t.

@Budvarakbar:

This CRAP has worked beyond their wildest dreams in the US!

But of course. They have most of the MSM and educators as willing cohorts in “shaping conventional wisdom” (aka propaganda and indoctrination). It is only after a years in the real world that some adults begin to get an inkling that they have been played for suckers, and some like Greg and This One continue to reject all efforts to correct their ideological programming. This why socialists usually infiltrate the media and schools first, to plant the seeds of their into the minds of the impressionable and gullible. It’s a proven successful method in the socialist handbook.

@This one:

So it was appropriate to support Nazism under the guise of patriotism? It was appropriate to support slavery under the guise of patriotism?

You leftists do not understand patriotism at all. You see when you try so hard to fake patriotism because you think us rubes to be too ignorant to see through your false love of country, you give us things like that idiot Massachusetts governor looking like a giant dork in a tank.

Patriotism means standing up for the values that make your country great, not screaming like a drunk middle aged pot-bellied bald guy thinking he could be a better quaterback than the guy on TV. To you leftists, patriotism is merely a manipulative tool to be used to advance the cause of collectivism, rather than a definitive characteristic of a citizen proud of his country because of what the people of his country stand for.
Duty. Honor. Country.

Obama has no honor, and it is laughable for him (and his syncophants) to expect to be treated as if he had earned our honor or respect.
Obama has no sense of duty, or he would – as a purported Constitutional scholar – work diligently to abide by the Constitution.
Obama does not unite the country, but arguably has done everything possible to divide our nation, weaken our military, and destroy the reputation of the once greatest nation on earth.

Sorry, I love my country far too much, and am too patriotic to be fooled into supporting such a petty tyrant as Obama. Only those who frenetically gulp down the bile of Obama’s personality cult would ever confuse patriotism with supporting an unjust war for political propaganda purposes.
