One of our readers, retire05, alerted us to this disparaging fact. The name Oklahoma derives from the words “okla” and “humma” which literally means “red people.”

Oklahoma Listeni/ˌoʊkləˈhoʊmə/[5] (Pawnee: Uukuhuúwa,[6] Cayuga: Gahnawiyoˀgeh[7]) is a state located in the South Central United States.[8] Oklahoma is the 20th most extensive and the 28th most populous of the 50 United States. The state’s name is derived from the Choctaw words okla and humma, meaning “red people”.[9] It is also known informally by its nickname, The Sooner State, in reference to the non-Native settlers who staked their claims on the choicest pieces of land prior to the official opening date, and the Indian Appropriations Act of 1889, which opened the door for white settlement in America’s Indian Territory. The name was settled upon statehood, Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory were merged and Indian was dropped from the name. On November 16, 1907, Oklahoma became the 46th state to enter the union. Its residents are known as Oklahomans or, informally “Okies”, and its capital and largest city is Oklahoma City.

And see here:

Oklahoma is based on Choctaw Indian words which translate as red people (okla meaning “people” and humma meaning “red”). Recorded history for the name “Oklahoma” began with Spanish explorer Coronado in 1541 on his quest for the “Lost City of Gold.” Oklahoma became the 46th state on November 16, 1907.

One cannot be offended by the name “Redskins” without being offended by the name “Oklahoma.” It would appear that a state name change is in order, no?

Boycott all base-ball games and change the name of the University since it offends all of America.

Indian tribe indigenous to Washington DCCONOY Indians

The customs and beliefs of the Conoy it my best be given by the following quotation from White[3], although the author’s interpretations of customs often go far astray: “The natives are very tall and well proportioned; their skin is naturally rather dark, and they make it uglier by staining it, generally with red paint mixed with oil, to keep off the mosquitoes, thinking more of their own comfort than of appearances. They disfigure their countenances with other colors, too, painting them in various and truly hideous and frightful ways, either a dark blue above the nose and red below, or the reverse. And as they live almost to extreme old age without having beards, they counterfeit them with paint, by drawing lines of various colors from the extremities of the lips to the ears. They generally have black hair, which they carry rotund in a knot to the left ear, and fasten with a band, adding some ornament which is in estimation among them. Some of them wear on their foreheads the figure of a fish made of copper. They adorn their necks with glass beads strung on a thread like necklaces, though these beads are getting to be less valued among them and less useful for trade. They are clothed for the must part in deerskins or some similar kind of covering, which hangs down behind like a cloak. They wear aprons round the middle, and leave the rest of the body naked. The Young boys and girls go about with nothing on them. The soles of their feet are as hard as horn, and they tread on thorns and briers without being hurt. READ MORE AT:

I thought this was interesting, although not in direct relationship to the commentary (red-people , Choctaw, and Oklahoma) I though by some of the the content it was plausible to add.

The hypocrisy is stunning unless everything I read and hear about (celebrating “diversity” sarc) is wrong…

It only takes a bunch of puffy hate filled liberals to spin things like this into a…. NEGATIVE.

God help us.

If the radical leftists at the U.S. Patent Office think they have the right to void a long standing patent (they don’t) because Harry Reid and the rest of the cultural Marxists don’t like a name, are we going to see the Patent Office void the name of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or the United Negro College Fund? Both “colored people” and “negro” are now deemed to be political incorrect and racist in nature.

Are we to see the Atlanta Braves lose their patented name? Or any team named “chief”? This is political correctness on steroids.

Ok, Cleveland Indians, White sox, Red sox, Atlanta Braves, some hokey teams. The patent office can not withdrawal a patent under law. It requires a legal breach.
Impeachment time is long past.
Surprise, on July 1, the dollar will fall 60% . You think the trade deficit is huge, just wait till the dollar is devaluated by 60%.

And then there’s that team called the “Senators” how dare they insult these players and their fans by naming them after such aloof, destructive suckers of top scum!

@Ditto: Some guys on one of the talk shows floated the notion of the Redskins changing the name to the “Washington Tea Partiers” 😉

@Jim S:

Better idea: Rename the “Senators” the “Tea Partiers” and watch all the progressives on ‘The Hill’ have conniption fits.
