President Obama can’t see how Congress could buck public opinion to vote against new gun laws, he said in an interview released Tuesday.
“The notion that Congress would defy the overwhelming instinct of the American people after what we saw happen in Newtown I think is unimaginable,” he told “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie in an interview conducted before Monday’s explosions at the Boston Marathon.
The Senate is expected to vote on gun legislation later this week, though it’s not yet clear whether there will be enough votes for it to pass.
[A]ccording to polling by CNN, registered voters oppose Obamacare by a margin of 10 points — 52 to 42 percent. Independents like Obamacare even less, opposing it by a margin of 22 points — 57 to 35 percent. Clearly, voters didn’t think they were ratifying Obamacare when they pulled the lever for Obama.
Public opinion means nothing to BHO and the Dems, if so we would not have Obamacare and there would be no gun law in play. We have enough gun laws, we need to enforce them. As I understand it the new proposed gun laws would not have hampered the school shooting in CT. When are people and GOP going to really get involved and stop this regime??
OBAMA:
Obama’s short paragraph implies two things that are totally wrong.
1. The first wrong thing Obama’s implication that politicians are charged with taking care of our Constitutional rights. WRONG! We are charged with taking care of our Constitutional rights!
They’re our natural rights, inherent in us, and the Second Amendment exists to make sure that if too many elected officials forget that those are natural rights, and begin to think they’re merely legislative rules that legislators can change, we can rid our country of these politicians’ tyranny.
2. Obama is implying that, if a sufficient number of Americans elect anti-gun politicians, that majority overrides the constitution. That, if a majority of people elect politicians who support an unconstitutional idea, those politicians get to move forward enacting that idea irrespective of the Constitution.
That is a staggering misreading of the Constitution.
At least Obama tells us that the Constitution is meaningless in his transformed America.
@Nan G:
Right on both points Nan.
I have come to the inevitable conclusion that you can no longer trust anything a Democrat politician tells you (and the same goes for a good many establishment Republicans). Until the Democrats step back from their far-left social engineering zealotry, I will not even bother considering voting for any Democrat, because they think that it’s perfectly acceptable to lie right to your face to win an election, and then turn around and act like national socialist fascists if-when they win. I am thoroughly disgusted with RINOs like McCain who have violated their oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” simply so that they can claim that they helped in creating a “bipartisan compromise” that only infringes on our rights a little.
I may not vote for a particular incompetent establishment/RINO Republican, but I’ll certainly consider a Constitution Party or even a Libertarian candidate over any oath-breaking weasel. Franky I think that the GOP leadership is trying to commit political suicide, and Obama and the MSM are happy to give them the means.
as long as the CONGRESS put a block in everything he decide
which is bad for the PEOPLE and THE AMERICAN WAY,
there is a chance, at least no bad laws would be impose,
on top of what he already done to hurt the PEOPLE he is supose to serve as a top priority,
can you imagine if the FBI would overlook the PEOPLE who where hurt and protect the BOMBER,
can you imagine if the FORTH HOOD investigator from the PENTAGONE would protect the rights of HASSAN the terrorist and refuse to give the MEDALS OF PURPLE HEART to those who where survivors and those who died claiming their deserving it, oh wait this one is not in my imagination
