President Obama Tuesday said he’s “not going to be waiting for legislation” from Congress to move forward on his agenda in 2014, further stoking a clash between both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue over the reach of executive power.
“I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone,” Obama said before a Cabinet meeting at the White House Tuesday, issuing a challenge to GOP lawmakers who have blocked most of his second-term agenda.
Obama is hailing 2014 as a “year of action” after enduring the roughest 12-month stretch of his presidency.
However, the outlook for his top priorities, including immigration reform and progressive economic fixes, is hazy in the Republican-controlled House.
In alluding to his “pen” and “phone,” Obama made clear that he would not hold back from issuing executive orders and rallying the public behind his agenda.

Slowly… the regime’s agenda reveals itself… As I have said many times, when one cannot govern by legislation, he may choose to rule by regulation. I have also asked the question, what kind of government do we have? A republic? A democracy? Or a dictatorship? In a republic or a democracy, the will of the people control the desires of the politicians, in a dictatorship, the will of the ruler overpower the desires of the people.
The country is governed both by legislation and by the administration of that legislation. Without the Executive Branch, legislation is nothing more than empty words expressing intentions. There’s supposed to be a balance of power. The minority party, which has a majority in one house of the Legislative Branch, has overstepped the balance point by interfering in every possible way with the Executive Branch’s efforts to administer legislation they dislike—legislation which became the law of the land by an entirely legitimate constitutional process, and which has withstood challenge in the Supreme Court.
The President has done nothing more than threaten to fully utilize the power of his pen and telephone. He is, in fact, the Chief Executive, and it is, in fact, his constitutional responsibility to effectuate legislation, to the best of his ability. This can be difficult when you have to work around the minority party’s irrational outbursts and periodic tantrums.

First, they’re not the ‘minority’ party in the House. They’re the majority. The US governement was set up to make it ‘difficult’ to make new laws. If the new law is popular enough, both houses will pass it. The President, in effect, once elected is the chief executive who has a role to carry out the laws that are passed, not to make up new laws.

They are called helmets, and more people are realizing that they might be needed to keep our country from tyranny. Body armor, guns, and ammo also are good things to have under the obama administration. Do you like the idea that the different government agencies who have bought millions of rounds of ammo each now have more ammo than the Army? What do they intend to do with enough ammo to have a 20 year war, and shoot every citizen 5-6 times?
Our founding fathers wanted us to have guns to protect ourselves from tyranny WITHIN the USA, not to defend ourselves from foreign invaders. obama is the reason they wanted us to be able to defend ourselves.
Since you won’t believe the articles anyway, I won’t link to the ones that are confirming that when gun sales go up, crime goes down. Crooks tend to stay away from places they know they might be shot. Did you know that most or all of the mass shootings over the last few years were in gun free zones? Did you know that the guy who killed so many in a theater went to other theaters first, but they allowed guns, so he kept looking until he found one that didn’t?
If a person wants to stay safe, stay away from gun free zones and businesses. Those are the places the bad guys will go.

There were problems with the website that made the enrollment process difficult. I presume you heard about that. The logical response was to fix the problems, and then to extend the deadlines. Perhaps you don’t understand the concept of logical responses.
@Greg: We have also heard that a working web site can be built for far less than half a BILLION dollars in far less than 3 1/2 years. We also understand re-writing an existing law outside of the authorization of the Constitution because it’s more convenient that way. And you obviously don’t understand either of those concepts.

I do understand the concept of breaking the law. It is supposed to be executed as written, not modified illegally by executive order. Executive orders are only to aid in executing the laws ‘as written’ not to modify them.

two well known web site developers were on the Hannity show, don’t recall their name, it was several weeks ago, said they could have had the web site up and running in less than 1 year and for under 10 million dollars. Last I heard it was up to about a billion and still not operating. One developer said less than 5 million, but agreed with the other, certainly less than 10 mill. I’m sure a lot of Obama’s cohorts have gotten quite rich, as he has, over this.

The $634 million figure wasn’t the cost of the “Obamacare” website. That figure was the total of all program work contracted by the Department of Health and Human Services with CGI over a period of 7 years. CGI was awarded a $93 million contract for the healthcare.gov website project. This is in fact higher than the original estimate for the job, which was only $70 million.

I don’t remember the name of the company that has the new contract to build the site, but it is connected to the liberals just like the old one is, and I think the new price for the new site is $45,000,000. It wasn’t put up for bid either. Why aren’t the republicans doing anything about ANY of this? Are they making money off of it too?
