I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh, mostly during the Clinton years—-during that period, without the internet, there weren’t too many ways of getting the opinion of the other side other than the radio.

One day, I heard him making fun of Michael J. Scott’s affliction—-Parkinson’s Disease. Now I’d both I’d heard and participated in such verbal behavior when in the military, but that was when I was in my late-teens, early-twenties—-not my late-thirties, early-forties (at the time.) I thought to myself, “How can anyone take their marching orders from a person as callous as that. The must be as callous as him.”

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

One day, I heard him making fun of Michael J. Scott’s affliction—-Parkinson’s Disease.

Who is Michael J. Scott? And why would Rush comment on his illness?

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

A couple of thoughts, Lib1;

-It is Michael J. Fox, not Scott. I can attribute that to an honest mistake though.

-No one “takes their marching orders” from Rush Limbaugh. He isn’t Huffpo or DailyKos, or the DNC, where the talking points are disseminated to the army of liberals who then go out everywhere and repeat them. Accusing the other side of doing exactly what your side does is deceitful.

-And as for his comments on Mr. Fox, it happened to be in response to the use of embryonic stem cells for a “cure” to Mr. Fox’s affliction, and Mr. Fox’s cheerleading of the effort. Similar strong comments were made regarding Christopher Reeve at the time. So, it wasn’t done merely as an insult by making fun of Fox’s disease.

Aye, I heard what Rush said and liberal 2 is lying. He never made fun of MJF or his illness. He also assumes that like the left, Conservatives “take marching orders” from talking heads.

FYI, the issue came up when MJF was testifying in front of Congress about stem cell research funding (IIRC).

I remember that kerfluffle.
It was that Michael J. FOX had quit his meds so he would shake uncontrollably for a commercial pushing a vote for Missouri Senate challenger Claire McCaskill
Fox shook quite a bit for the ad.
I saw it a few times during the campaign.
But what Rush said was that IF Fox was not faking his shaking, and had taken his meds as prescribed, but STILL shook like that, then Rush apologized.
However, Fox had said he sometimes does not take his medication in order to illustrate Parkinson’s severe physical effects.
So, I guess the apology did not come.

@Hard Right:

Yeah, I knew what the loon was talking about too and knew that the accusations against Rush were lies.

Was just trying to lure it back in for another pass.

Rasmussen, which polls only LIKELY voters has a new low for Obama today.
It is NOT that he is at 19% strongly approve the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president , Obama has been that low before.
But now that is paired with a 42% who strongly disapprove the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president.
So, this means the spread is at a new level, never seen before.
Obama now has a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23
Minus 23.
Ouch!

(The link above is only good for today.)

@Aye:

Aw crud. I should have known. Well, if history is any indicator it wouldn’t have come back anyway. The two times I’ve seen that happen it got shredded-badly. That must be why it rarely does a second post. Heh.

@Nan G:

The link may only be good for a day but we can give the graphic longevity:

AYE Our Resident Chartist That chart looks pretty ugly. How bout one that shows Tea Party support down to 23% and Congress at 13% OUCH. A pox on all their houses.The American voter is in a mood most foul.

Exit ? Have you looked at Palin’s favorability rating recently?

Hey, he had a bit of bad luck. Who would have thought it .. bad luck.
I don’t remember ever reading in the newspapers or seeing on TV anything about “bad luck” before.
Bush never had “bad luck.” Neither did Clinton or Carter.

“I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God” … with “bad luck”

I guess only a “sort of god” has “bad luck.”

If his poll numbers look like this come next September/October, then I’ll say he is finished. Call me a pessimist or whatever but 15 months is a long way to go. Too many people have a tendency to not learn from their mistakes and are liable to vote for him again. Besides, never underestimate an opponent no matter how weak they appear (even though he and his colleagues refer to those who oppose him as “enemies” or “terrorists”). History is ripe with examples of what happens when underestimating an opponent be it politics, sports, or war.
