Over the last year, the Obama administration has aggressively pushed a $433-million plan to buy an experimental smallpox drug, despite uncertainty over whether it is needed or will work.
Senior officials have taken unusual steps to secure the contract for New York-based Siga Technologies Inc., whose controlling shareholder is billionaire Ronald O. Perelman, one of the world’s richest men and a longtime Democratic Party donor.
When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company’s financial demands, senior officials replaced the government’s lead negotiator for the deal, interviews and documents show.
When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing.
Siga was awarded the final contract in May through a “sole-source” procurement in which it was the only company asked to submit a proposal. The contract calls for Siga to deliver 1.7 million doses of the drug for the nation’s biodefense stockpile. The price of approximately $255 per dose is well above what the government’s specialists had earlier said was reasonable, according to internal documents and interviews.
[…]Dr. Thomas M. Mack, an epidemiologist at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, battled smallpox outbreaks in Pakistan and has advised the Food and Drug Administration on the virus. He called the plan to stockpile Siga’s drug “a waste of time and a waste of money.”
Eight years of hearing cries about crony capitalism, and yet, that is all we have received from Obama.
Billions and billions wasted on “green energy” projects, of which most/all have some Democratic Party or Obama link.
And now this?
Do these liberal/progressives really think that Obama cares about them? Can anyone be that stupid? Apparently, the answer is yes, considering Obama still garners support around the country.
I keep thinking about the woman on video asking, “Where’s my free sh*t?”
The answer is easy. It’s being given away by Obama and his cronies, to his cronies, and back to his campaign.
I want everything free-just like the democ”rats” promised me.
I never got the unicorn obama promised.
You’ll note the left has no problem with the above story. If a dem does it, it’s ok.
@johngalt: And what about Chenney and Haliburton during the Bush administration; and Blackwater, by Bush himself. When are conservatives going to stop pretending the their party is as clean as driven snow?
@Liberal1 (Objectivity):
Cleanup on Aisle 78
@Liberal1 (Objectivity):
Lib1, the point, which still stands, is that the liberal/progressives harped on the ‘crony capitalism’ during the Bush years, and yet, not a word about it now. Why is that? Maybe because your ‘messiah’ is engaged in it now and to point out anything negative about him is akin to blasphemy for you people?
Buncha’ damn hypocrites is what you all are. Purposeful hypocrites that lack integrity of any kind.
