The boomlet for Donald Trump as a Republican nominee for president of the United States ought to be a wake-up call for Republican candidates and Republican party leaders alike.
Why has Trump surged ahead of other Republican candidates and potential candidates in the polls? It is not likely that his resurrection of the issue of Barack Obama’s birth certificate has aroused all this support.
The birth-certificate issue does more political damage to Obama’s critics than to the president himself, because it enables the media to paint those critics as kooks. Nor are Donald Trump’s political positions such as to create a stampede to his cause.
Radio-talk-show host Mark Levin has rebroadcast Trump’s varied and mutually contradictory statements on political issues and personalities over the years. It was a devastating revelation of Trump’s “versatility of convictions,” to use a phrase coined long ago by Thorstein Veblen.
So then what is Donald Trump’s appeal? And why should it concern Republican leaders in general?
Trump has what so many other Republicans are so painfully lacking: the ability and the willingness to articulate arguments clearly, forcefully, and in plain English. Too many Republicans talk like the actor of whom a critic once said, “he played the king like he was afraid that someone else was going to play the ace.”
What electrified so many Republicans about Sarah Palin in the 2008 election campaign was that her speeches offered such a contrast to the usual mealy-mouthed talk common among other Republican candidates, including Sen. John McCain. Whether you agreed or disagreed with her position on the issues, you didn’t have to wave your hand in front of her eyes to see if she was awake.
Donald Trump is dangerous in at least two senses. If, by some tragic miracle, he should become the Republicans’ candidate for president in 2012, that would be the closest thing to an iron-clad guarantee of a second term in the White House for Barack Obama.
That would be a huge setback for the Republicans — and, far more important — a historic catastrophe for this country.
What seems more likely is that Donald Trump as a candidate for the Republican nomination would use his superior articulation skills — not to mention brash irresponsibility — to trash all the other Republican candidates for that nomination, leaving them damaged goods in the eyes of the public, and therefore less able to gather the votes needed to prevent the reelection of Obama.
Despite the idea that Obama has released a long-form birth certificate, if it is authentic, it shows that BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS DEFINITELY NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN, his father, Obama, Sr., was born in African and NOT and American citizen. Get OBAMA OUT!

Thanks for posting that great piece by Thomas Sowell. He spells out quite well the danger Trump represents to the Republican chances of unseating Obama from his current gig, ie presiding over the destruction of American supremacy. Obama has traded in Reagan’s once popular “shining city on a hill” metaphor for a more post modern one: “America sucks!” as articulated by all of his former and current pastors, spiritual advisers, marxist mentors, fellow travelers and jihadists, as well the current FLOTUS.
Unseating Obama and expunging his party’s pernicious influences is going to a herculean task, akin to cleaning out the Stygian stables (as I have once before pointed out). This task will require someone who is a true reformer, someone who is not willing to let the status quo continue ad interruptum as America sinks deeper and deeper into debt and social chaos. The clarion bell has sounded. All hands on deck! It is time to stand and be counted, or trampled under foot and forgotten.
As to the authenticity of Obama’s birth certificate. I can honestly, categorically state that I believe his birth certificate is every bit as authentic as his memoir, Dreams From My Father.
Oddly enough, I was just thinking last night that it would be relatively simple to create a newly forged birth certificate that would fool many of the experts, especially given the time that has passed. (1) If you can not locate an original form from the time and wash the old ink off, then find paper of the same age,. (2) Print a clean Photoshopped copy of original form’s inking onto the sheet, (3) Type in the pertinent information on to the form with a typewriter existing during the period. I’m sure someone in the CIA could have done it long ago.)
Whether or not this long form birth certificate is genuine or yet another forgery, I think that the issue is now moot, because any who dare question it will be painted as a crazed racist nut-job by the media, and Washington Politicians. Even Fox news will refuse to question it. No matter what, continuing to chase after this story will gain nothing. Let’s move on and focus on proving what a crappy President he is.

Why exactly is it that people always focus on the easy part of an alleged conspiracy (forging a document) and completely ignore the part that makes it incredibly unlikely: all the people, from those at the White House to those employees and officials in the State of Hawaii, who would have to be involved in perpetrating the fraud and then, forever after, complicit in covering it up? This, of course, has been the unanswered (not to mention unasked) question in all Obama conspiracies.

(1) Because it might not necessarily require all that many people to be in on the creation of and insertion of fraudulent documents into the system, and it can be quite easy in bureaucracies to find political insiders to support the fraud. (2) Because there have been past cases of conspiracies and political intrigue in government organizations. (3) Because power corrupts, and the politically corrupt are drawn to power. (4) Political ethics is an oxymoron, and there are many individuals at all levels in a political environment who are perfectly willing to set ethics aside for political agenda.
Tom, you can’t possibly be so naive as to actually think document evidence fraud is so difficult to perpetrate. Small numbers of people have been able to create believable evidential, artistic and document fraud for centuries. The fraud is most successful when they know that it will not be questioned. Even more so when there are people with power willing and able to obstruct frauds from close examination.
In a theoretical plan of documentation fraud, the first part is to acquire an example of the proper document. In this day and age you can wash/remove the original ink and simply print your new information on the original document. (The use of a period typewriter is optional depending on how close scrutiny you expect the document to be given.) You need only a small number of people to be in on such a fraud. Outside of the initial planning and implementation circle you need: 1 person with access to records of the period. 1 person who knows how to create fraudulent documents by washing the old ink off and to type the new data on. Then the person with access places the newly doctored record into the same record storage location so that it can be “found”. (Or, you hire a graphic artist instead of a document forger and use Photoshop. Hell, it would have been a piece of cake for most graphic artists to create “digital copies” like either of the Obama certificates, so long as they had an original to work with.) Depending on the number of planners, documentation fraud is one of the easiest to perpetrate. The real trick is for it to pass expert scrutiny.
With the circus around this issue, and the reluctance (if not outright hostility) by any of the media and politicians to anyone who would dare question and subject the Obama documents to examination. I doubt that it would happen in our lifetimes. Again, I will state my opinion that this heavily politicized issue is now a total waste of time to pursue further.
