Fifteen years is a hell of long time to have to listen to ever more hysterical pronouncements that the end of the world is nigh — all without that predicted disaster happening to even the most minimal degree. And yet, according to a report released recently by the U.K. Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit, nothing at all is exactly what has happened. These putative climate authorities’ data, accumulated from more than 30,000 research stations, shows that the world’s temperature has not risen for a decade and a half. The revelation, as one would expect, headlined news across the world.
The problem with this latest report, of course, is that it is in no way revelatory all. Oh, sure, it extends by half again the amount of time that the globe has refused to conform to predictions of behavior made by those who have assured us that they are experts. But so what of it?
It didn’t exactly matter when the fundamental claims of Al Gore’s fiction An Inconvenient Truth were shown to be false. Rises in atmospheric CO2 concentrations have not driven historic global temperature increases as claimed; rather, temperature actually increased first. And as for that infamous hockey stick, the one that showed temperature increases neatly correlating with industrial development? Well, there’s a reason why you don’t hear about that anymore.
Nor did it matter when polar bears defied predictions and, instead of going the way of the Dodo, happily increased their numbers.
Think about this for a minute;
There has been only ONE thing that has remained unchanged for the AGW/Climate Change crowd since the idea first gained the attention of the world. At every juncture where either their predictions have been off base, and even exactly wrong, or, their data was shown to be either made up, or seriously inaccurate, that crowd rallied and changed what they stated was happening, or what their predictions would be. At one point they even changed what they were calling it. Instead of “Global Warming” they began to use the term “climate change”.
And the world is told; If it’s hot, it’s due to climate change. If it’s cold, it’s due to climate change. If it’s severe storms with flooding, it’s due to climate change. If it’s droughts, it’s due to climate change. If some insect 99.99% of the world has never heard of before is declared extinct, it’s due to climate change. If we see some polar bear on a sheet of ice far away from land, it’s due to climate change. If migratory birds change their flight pattern(without FAA approval, mind you), it’s due to climate change. If the normal happens, and some midwestern town gets demolished by a tornado that year, it’s due to climate change. And on, and on, and on, and on.
But, back to the point. What has remained constant, no matter what else has changed in the “science”?
That’s right. Man-caused CO2 is to blame, and the only cure is for the world to use less fossil fuels.
The other thing that hasn’t changed much is the grants. As long as they can keep this lie alive, they get funded. One of the ways they keep it alive is to prevent others with conflicting views from publishing their scientific findings. That was the main point in the climategate emails. The other was asking Michael Mann to assist them to hide the decline in the global temperature.
The only problem with your premise about the warming data is it is not true. It has been repeated constantly on the interwebs, but the science does not support the statement that there has been no warming in the last 15 years. The so called “climategate” emails were investigated by eight different scientific bodies an no scientific fraud or mis-conduct was found by any of the committees. All the emails ever proved is scientists can be just as pissy to each other as any other human being.
Also don’t forget the Berkeley Earth Project financed by the Koch Brothers that was supposed to prove the problem with the warming data. However it did the opposite and the study scientist had to conclude after a review of the data the earth is indeed warming. berkeleyearth.org.
How have we gotten to the point we take our science from radio personalities rather than real scientists?
@Mike: So, a real scientist with knowledge of AGW is an expert in fresh water and climate change? Professes to be an expert on energy? Even the Berkly data showed no warming if the data was not “adjusted”.
