Ace @ Ace of Spades HQ:
When I first heard this, I thought bullshit. And the reason was simple: The Obama Administration was lying left and right to cover up the fact that they had dropped the ball in Benghazi and this had resulted in the murders of four men.
Given the furious spinning, I found it very suspicious that yet another avenue of spin suddenly emerged — Blame Bush.
Turns out, it was bullshit. From start to finish. But they got that meme out there, didn’t they?
Don’t expect the retraction to be reported.
At Foreign Policy’s The Cable, Josh Rogin provides an update on reports connecting a former Guantanamo detainee named Sufyan Ben Qumu to the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Rep. Adam Smith, the Democrats’ ranking member on the House Armed Services Committee, said today that there is “no evidence” that Qumu was “directly involved.” After a classified briefing on September 21, Smith labeled Qumu a “person of interest” in the consulate attack.
“All I meant was that the person I mentioned has known al Qaeda affiliations and was in Libya. And really, that’s it,” Smith said during a conference call with the “left-leaning National Security Network,” according to Rogin. “Whether or not he was directly involved with the people engaged in the attack, there’s no evidence of that.”
Seems there was ”evidence” that Ansar al Sharia was involved in the Benghazi attack.
But ”Ansar al Sharia,” is a big generality, meaning, literally, Helper of Sharia.
Anyone can be a ”helper of sharia,” if they desire Sharia where they live.
In NY the 27th Annual Muslim Day Parade was on September 23 this year.
Two of the speakers there were so very Ansar al Sharia that one of the planned non-Muslim speakers, NY state senator, Tony Avella, a Democrat, walked off the stage in disgust at the calls for Sharia in the USA.
So, I guess the Obama Admin can ”blame Bush” with hasty generalizations for weeks over the Benghazi attack.
It would be nice to know who did do it.
Heck, maybe this Sufyan Ben Qumu WAS involved!
I’m confused. Back on the original Most Wanted article on this, I had noted in my comment #5 that Qumu wasn’t being fingered by the Libyan officials… and that it seemed to be another example of the press racing to published unverified BS.
It was Fox News who passed that on, crediting their “intelligence sources”. The Weekly Standard picked it up from Fox, and also ran with it. And the BS goes viral….
Hey… I don’t like Obama’s leadership as much as the next person, but let’s get real here. Why is Ace or anyone else anyone is assigning responsibility to the O’WH for the media’s reporting of false data? It’s not like Obama calls on Fox or the Weekly Standard to get his talking point out, right? In this case, it seems the blame and spin are, for once, not emanating from the WH press office.
What to you expect from a source whose comments look like they’re purchased as custom software—there are such services you know.
Obama and co knew it was a terrorist attack?
