Sarah Palin:

Barak Obama just released Islamic terrorists from GITMO, exchanging the murderers for a soldier who ended up in enemy hands five years ago amidst unexplained circumstances. Obama glowingly suggests now that he succeeded in negotiating with terrorists to seal the deal, violating America’s agreement with our allies that we would not be so reckless, short-sighted and stupid as to negotiate with terrorists – and now these Islamists who hate us are free to go about their business of killing us. Meanwhile, we have a U.S. Marine detained in Mexico who is ignored by Obama – it’s like someone said: “our Marine is the ONLY one Obama won’t let cross the border.” Obama needs to hop on Air Force One and visit our neighbors to the south to seal THAT deal because surely the Commander-in-Chief lives up to his word and 230 years of U.S. Military ethos promising we “leave no one behind.”

This feel-good story doesn’t feel real good, America. The timing of this is to distract from the VA scandals and other Obama Error disasters. Now more than ever we need a cornerstone of our democracy to do its job and get the answers to what the devil is going on in the White House. Media, that would be you. You prove yourselves idiots if you take for an answer that there’s nothing amiss on this one either, “not even a smidgen.”

As for the released soldier, let’s hope he can enjoy his freedom back home. It would be wonderful for him to make it back to Idaho in time for Father’s Day. Perhaps around a traditional all-American barbeque for pops, he can convince his dad there’s no need to continue his anti-American rants that tear the fabric of the flag to which his son pledged allegiance.

See this article for more on that:

White House Breaks the Law Releasing These Gitmo Terrorists, Of Course Claims “Exigent Circumstances”

These concerns were passed on to me today. There will be much follow up on this very concerning situation, if the media does it’s job. Let’s have faith that light will shine truth in all this, via media or elected Republican leaders who are now asking questions about the Obama Administration’s continual disregard for law. What do you think?

I wonder if the Marines on Marine One will do their duty? That being defending this nation against its enemies.

Media Needs To Find Out Why Obama Broke Law in ‘Very Concerning’ POW Exchange

Since we’re talking about legalities, maybe the media needs to find out what laws might have been broken in holding people captive in Guantanamo for 12 years without trial to begin with.

Maybe we need to resolve that point before questioning the legality of a decision by the President of the United States that they be let go.

What do you say, Sarah? Would you care to throw some light on that for us?

@Greg:

Since we’re talking about legalities, maybe the media needs to find out what laws might have been broken in holding people captive in Guantanamo for 12 years without trial to begin with.

No Greg, we are under no compulsion to follow you in your attempt to change the subject. There is no reason whatsoever to rehash this argument you’ve lost many times. You need to have your memory refreshed, look through the archives. There are years of FA discussions where this has all been explained to you in the simplest of terms.

Maybe we need to resolve that point before questioning the legality of a decision by the President of the United States that they be let go.

Obama’s spokesman Jay Carney admitted that law required the President to consult with Congress before releasing any detainees.
Are you now claiming that Jay Carney is a liar?

Some bright young thing in the administration talked Valarie Jarrett into this. The idea being it would get the media off of the VA.

Well, it worked. Frying pan…fire.

@Greg:

Maybe we need to find-out why all of the Democrat party objected to Bush putting these murderous bastards on trial before a Military Tribunal in accordance with UCMJ and Geneva Conventions, concerning the disposition of enemy combatants caught on the battlefield out of uniform. Spies and partisans are routinely shot, whether immediately on the field, or after interrogation. This is sanctioned by the GC as proper and legal. Why did your side prevent the timely trials and executions of these human oxygen thieves?

Oh, right, to score political points against the Right, Honorable George W. Bush, President of these United States.

@VoteOutIncumbents: You’re probably right.
But it was a very poorly thought-out diversionary ploy.
It is backfiring on Obama and he is flat-footed in response.
He expected the plaudits of all, from Left to Right.

Edited to add:
Not very well thought out indeed!
Now CUBA is insisting on their own ”prisoner swap!”
http://news.yahoo.com/cuban-spy-calls-prisoner-swap-taliban-190107995.html;_ylt=AwrBJSARy4xTM2MA4c_QtDMD

@Nanny G: The incompetence of this administration is simply stunning.

The media isn’t going to find anything out about what Obama is, what he’s done, or why. Remember, this is the same media that gave 0 a pass when it came to reporting on his background, education, and employment when he made his first run for the White House. Meanwhile, just try getting a job while refusing to submit your education records. That is unless, of course, you’re an illegal immigrant or 0…

And it’s highly unlikely that 0 has reason to fear any backlash when 0 and his party have the media, and those who vote early and often for living, in their back pockets.

As for the “diversionary tactic” thoughts; o has caused more harm through “division” than he has with diversion imo. The “divide and conquer” tactic has been, and continues to be, a very successful for him. Unfortunately, this latest issue is proving to be both divisive and diversionary (thanks again to the “look the other way” and “say no evil about 0” media).

As for what what we can do about this: well, we can use the power of our wallets by not patronizing the businesses that run commercials on liberal biased media/news outlet/TV channels (at least whenever possible). I’m also thinking about contacting these businesses and telling them exactly why I won’t be spending money on their products and/or services.

SARAH PALIN
thank you for that smart post,
but OBAMA LEFT 4 AMERICANS BEHIND IN BENGHASI,
is it because they where not in uniform?
they work for AMERICA, AND DIED WAITING FOR OBAMA,
4 FINE AMERICANS LEFT BEHIND , they are the HEROS,
BEST TO YOU,

@ThunderGod, #5:

Because democrats didn’t wish to be complicit in what almost certainly would have followed. The Bush Administration had found legal justification for torture, remember? The history of the War on Terror under the Bush Administration also included extraordinary rendition, secret imprisonment in secret prisons, the use of undisclosed evidence, indefinite imprisonment without any specific charges, the confiscation of property based on guilt-by-association, etc. They’re also known to have deliberately destroyed certain evidence.

Democrats would have been out of their minds to give these people a rubber stamp with the word APPROVED on it.

@Greg:

. The Bush Administration had found legal justification for torture, remember?

Yeah, how dare Bush water board less than five terrorists like KSM? Oh, wait, that is the same water boarding torture that our SEALs go through during SEAL training. Why does Obama continue to permit the torture of our U.S. Navy SEALs?

But being the radical left winger you are, Greggie, I’m sure you would be screaming Bush tortured radical Islamic jihadists had he had them served mint tea and crumpets.

The history of the War on Terror under the Bush Administration also included extraordinary rendition, secret imprisonment, the use of undisclosed evidence, indefinite imprisonment without specific charges, the confiscation of property based on guilt-by-association, etc. Democrats would have been out of their minds to give these people a rubber stamp with the word APPROVED on it.

Opps, Democrats DID approve all those things when the tactics were presented to both Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein. When you try to spin your lies, Greggie, you need to do it with LIVs who don’t know the facts.

@retire05, #11:

Opps, Democrats DID approve all those things…

Post #10 specifically addresses a question raised in Post #5: Why did democrats resist the Bush Administration’s plan to hold trials?

A specific question, followed by a specific answer. See how that works?

@Greg:

“Come on, everybody, do the Twist…”
“Spin, spin, sugar…”

Yet, you did not answer the question, Greg. “Complicit in what was almost certainly have followed?” You mean, like legal trial by the military, followed by codified consequences when found guilty? So, you think they wouldn’t have gotten a fair trial? There’s a reason Obama did not open the floodgates 4+ years ago and empty Gitmo. Like, he knew who these guys were and what they had done, maybe? No matter how much he sympathized with their sick, so-called “cause,” he couldn’t even make an underhanded move to integrate them into the US prison system.

So, they still sit down there, eating tax dollars…

Man, you really are a foolish tool.

@Greg:

Post #10 specifically addresses a question raised in Post #5: Why did democrats resist the Bush Administration’s plan to hold trials?

Actually, Greggie, that question is NOT in your post #10, at least not now (check the time stamp of my response) unless you go back and edit it, which you have been known to do.

Here is your post #10 in its entirety:

Because democrats didn’t wish to be complicit in what almost certainly would have followed. The Bush Administration had found legal justification for torture, remember? The history of the War on Terror under the Bush Administration also included extraordinary rendition, secret imprisonment in secret prisons, the use of undisclosed evidence, indefinite imprisonment without any specific charges, the confiscation of property based on guilt-by-association, etc. They’re also known to have deliberately destroyed certain evidence.

Nope, nothing anything near what you are trying to claim that you were responding to post #5.

Better luck next time, Greggie. Perhaps you could get some professional help for your chronic confused state?

@ThunderGod, #13:

Yet, you did not answer the question, Greg. “Complicit in what was almost certainly have followed?” You mean, like legal trial by the military, followed by codified consequences when found guilty?

No, as in short, perfunctory, non-public trials followed in fairly short order by executions. In my opinion the Bush administration demonstrated a disturbing lack of self-restraint. It had become a case of unitary executive theory run wild. Bush seemed to think he was on a mission from God. Actually, he was answerable to the American people.

@retire05, #15:

Better luck next time, Greggie. Perhaps you could get some professional help for your chronic confused state?

You seem to see every discussion as a personal confrontation, rather than as a contest between opinions and ideas. Perhaps you should follow your own advice.

@Greg: short, perfunctory, non-public trials followed in fairly short order by executions

How does that compare with Obama’s KILL LIST?
His playing card sized bios on various people that he alone decides to KILL via drone attacks?
Seems ”perfunctory” trials might at least let the terrorist know the end was coming.

@Nanny G, #17:

The drone attacks are admittedly controversial. That said, enemies running around loose on the landscape are a more credible threat than people we’ve locked in cages. After 12 years out of circulation, there’s a question concerning just how relevant they will actually be once they’ve been released. Only time will tell.

Thanks for such a clear viewpoint on this, Greg.
People in the field of the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq pointed out (back when Obama’s Kill List became public) that we’d have benefited greatly from CAPTURING many of those dead men instead of having them killed.
They had, not only tactical and strategic information which would have been helpful to glean but also operational knowledge.
And you must listen to yourself on this: enemies running around loose on the landscape are a more credible threat than people we’ve locked in cages. YES. They are. the five men freed into Qatar’s 5 star hotel lifestyles have lost all relevance when it comes to their old tactics and even some of their old strategies. But their value as holders of operational knowledge combined with their near martyr status as survivors of Gitmo.
They can and will be charismatic leaders who will urge men to sacrifice themselves for Islam.
Their main goal of a worldwide caliphate is strong and, basically, they can now claim Allah set them free.
These men didn’t rise to their old positions based on relevance.
They rose based on their ability to inspire others to give their all.
They still have that.

why would OBAMA ORDER A CONCILE NO TELL, ON THAT DESERTER SIGNED ON TOP OF THAT,
they all had to sign the paper, why?

Could Taliban He Freed Try to Harm U.S.? Obama: ‘Absolutely’

President Barack Obama said today in Poland that it was “absolutely” the case that the five Taliban he released from Guantanamo Prison in exchange for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl could try to return to efforts to harm the United States.

“Is there the possibility of some of them trying to return to activities that are detrimental to us? Absolutely,” Obama said in Warsaw at an appearance with President Bronislaw Komorowski of Poland. “That’s been true of all the prisoners that were released from Guantanamo. There’s a certain recidivism rate that takes place. “

Qatar allowing freed Taliban men to move freely in country: Gulf official

The Gulf official said the Taliban men, who have been granted Qatari residency permits, will not be treated like prisoners while in Doha and no U.S. officials will be involved in monitoring their movement while in the country.

“Under the deal they have to stay in Qatar for a year and then they will be allowed to travel outside the country… They can go back to Afghanistan if they want to,” the official said.

that is the war which OBAMA is commander of,
A NEVER ENDING WAR, with enemys who are never killed
and come back after a vacation,

IMAGINE THE CONNECTION,

even from QATAR, THEY CAN ORDER WHATEVER KILLING THEY WANT, HOW STUPID,
today”s technology, he forgot how fast the fighting can be order,
and the milles away from the killing site do not demand efforts, just an order from the web,
it would have been smarter to release the terrorists into another foreign prison, AWAY FROM COMUNICATIONS,
which would have cut them from giving orders to kill,
now they have their laptops hot with exchanges, ploting coups to hurt and destroy, AND KILL,
THOSE MILITARY HE WANT TO LEAVE IN AFGHANISTAN ,
AFTER WILL BE TARGETTED AND VULNERABLE,
they must all leave together, not one left,

@Greg:

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/bowe-bergdahl-released/freed-taliban-commander-tells-relative-hell-fight-americans-again-n124451

Only a complete fool would take an “only time will tell” attitude on whether the freed taliban terrorists will be a threat to the US. If one listens to the followers of the satanic death cult, they will explain quite clearly how islam is an existential threat to every non-muslim on the planet. Just ask the Christian Somalian woman whose own muslim brother says she deserves to die for the “apostacy” of being a Christian.

Every single one of those worthless jihadist scum in Gitmo should be executed – as the Geneva Convention designates for spies and non-uniformed combatants captured on a battlefield – once they are judged not to have any actionable intelligence. For Obama to keep pushing to free any of them is extremely shortsighted at best, and treason at worst. The jihadists are blatantly telling us exactly what they intend – a worldwide caliphate with all non-muslims subjugated to muslims. Whether you think they are capable of accomplishing that task is irrelevent, because they are certainly taking actions showing they believe themselves capable. Freeing these vermin from Gitmo only increases the likelihood the taliban will retake control in Afghanistan after we leave. When you discover you have cockroaches or termites in your home, do you waste time capturing them and later releasing them in hopes they will not return to the same behaviors inherent to their nature, simply because you decided to be soft-hearted? Or do you call in the exterminator to terminate the threat to your home and family?

Negotiating with muslim terrorist scum is as sensible as trying to negotiate with a rabid dog by extending your neck while wearing a bacon necklace.

MILITARY ADVISE OBAMA NOT TO TRADE FOR THE FIVES TERRORISTS,
HE MUST HAVE SAID: i will do what i damn please, i won, you lost.

No, you can’t just listen to fundamentalist Islamic wackos, any more than you can just listen to fundamentalist Christian wackos such as the late Reverend Fred Phelps, Pastor Terry Jones, or the bat-shit crazy Christian pro-lifers who have bombed women’s health clinics and assassinated pro-choice doctors in their own churches.

Christian nations formerly conducted inquisitions, pogroms against Jews, and genocidal massacres against Muslims. It has been a quite a while since the last crusade—at least from the Christian perspective—but Christian anti-Jewish pogroms are part of the history of the 20th Century. So are the genocidal massacres of Muslims by their Christian neighbors. Remember the Bosnian genocide?

Every single one of those worthless jihadist scum in Gitmo should be executed – as the Geneva Convention designates for spies and non-uniformed combatants captured on a battlefield – once they are judged not to have any actionable intelligence.

Fortunately we don’t currently have people in charge who think that way. The 775 detainees known to have been taken to Guantanamo actually comprise a mixed bag. Some were hard core extremists, but you could wind up in a cage there based entirely on hearsay evidence that wasn’t always from reliable sources. Some Guantanamo detainees have been cleared of all charges.

I’ve never been a big proponent of “Kill them all, and let God sort them out.” I won’t presume to say what sort of attitude God might have toward that sort of buck-passing.

Bergdahl physically abused by Taliban

He’s also reported to have made two unsuccessful attempts to escape from his Taliban captors.

Greg
THEY ARE THERE BECAUSE THEY WHERE CAUGHT,
how many are not caught and active on killing,
it’s not us who want to kill them all,
it”s them who make it so to need to be killed,
because if they stay alive< they will keep killing,
you have to kill them all, they are train to hate to the core of their soul,
having been told to kill as they where born for it,

@Greg:

Bergdahl physically abused by Taliban

Senator Diane Feinstein disagrees with CNN’s un named US official: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-06/no-evidence-of-credible-threat-to-bergdahl-feinstein.html

The Senate Intelligence Committee chairwoman said she hasn’t been convinced that there was a “credible threat” against the life of freed Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl that motivated the White House to keep its plans secret from Congress.

“I don’t think there was a credible threat,” Senator Dianne Feinstein said today in an interview for Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt” airing this weekend. “I have no information that there was.”

@Greg:

The comparison of jihadists – who are not a small fraction of islam – to fringe kooks like the Phelps gang is an exercise in justification propaganda. There are no mainstream Christian denominations nor national Christian governments calling for the subjugation of all non-Christians. There are no Christian churches nor governments sentencing people to death for converting to islam. There are no Christian ministers nor Catholic priests issuing religious rulings calling for the murder of those who insult Christ or leave Christianity analogous to fatwas issued by muslim imams calling for people to be killed for making insulting comments about Mohammed or leaving islam. There are no Christian militias kidnapping young girls, forcing them to convert to Christianity then selling them into sexual.slavery as Boko Haraam has done to at least 200 girls with islam. Islam is not a peaceful religion that is being victimized. Muslims attacked into Europe in the 8th century after spreading like cancer out of the Saudi penninsula. The US had to deal with islamic aggression almost from our national inception by first paying protection money, then fighting the Barbary (muslim) pirates. So spare me the leftwing revisionist history on the supposed victimization of muslims. No one here – that I have read – is calling for the extermination of all muslims. Executing the jihadist criminals, like those at Gitmo, is entirely reasonable, and in fact necessary for the protection of non-muslims just as one would presumably take down a rabid dog to protect the innocent.

@Ditto, #29:

Click on the link in provided in #27 and view the video titled Report: Bergdahl tried to escape twice. It’s about as well documented as anything else we’ve heard so far—which is to say, so far, not at all. Kind of like “sources on the ground in Benghazi tell us.”

@Greg: Yes he tried to escape because they would not let him join their group. He stated to his comrades, prior to his desertion of U.S. Forces he wanted more aggressive military action. Question Greg. Is there nothing Obama can do wrong, in your eyes?

@Pete, #30:

No one here – that I have read – is calling for the extermination of all muslims.

Nope. What was being called for was the extermination of the prisoners at Guantanamo. What I was pointing out is that they aren’t all necessarily terrorists or war criminals. We don’t actually know. Most haven’t been tried and convicted, and some have been released because it was determined that they hadn’t actually done anything. That makes me very uncomfortable with presumptions of guilt and calls for executions.

The repeated assertion that the left in general or the Obama administration in particular is soft on Islamic terrorists seems puzzling, given documented events like Obama’s early order to kill Somali pirates, or his vigorous pursuit of high-value enemy targets via drone attacks. The al Qaeda leadership and command structure has been far more than decimated, and they’ve hardly been the only targets. Presumptions of guilt are treated differently on a battlefield than inside a prison.

@Zelsdorf Ragshaft III, #32:

Is there nothing Obama can do wrong, in your eyes?

Is there any report or story cranked out by the right-wing propaganda machine that you don’t believe without reservation?

What I’ve argued in Bergdahl’s case is only that judgement should be withheld until the facts are known. Is that really too much to ask in the case of a U.S. soldier who has spent the past 5 years as a prisoner of the Taliban?

OBAMA IS AFRAID OF THE GRINGO IN CHARGE OF THE PRISON,
GIVING A HARD TIME TO OUR MARINE A HERO HIMSELF DECLARED BY THOSE WHO KNOW HIM WELL,
THAT IS THE MILITARY WHO WORK WITH HIM,
THIS MARINE MADE A BAD TURN, ENDING IN MEXICO, ON A 4 LANE HE COULDN’T CROSS,

@Greg: Greg, are you an alinskyite? What part of “this story was generated by the White House” don’t you get. They traded the five most dangerous people held in Gitmo for a guy they knew deserted at best and collaborated at the worst. I’ve said this before, you kool aide anti American Obama loving traders would try to justify Obama if you saw him sodomize, and murder a group of children on live TV. You deserve the same punishment Bergdahl earned by leaving his post in a war zone.

@Greg: Read the rules of war. They are not uniformed combatants. By international law they can be executed without trial. If you like them so much, why don’t you go live with them. I am sure they would keep you alive for at least 24 hours. These are the same people who blew up the ancient giant Buddas, even after international appeal not to do so. These are the people who kill little girls in front of their families for getting educated. Stand with them you c**k sucker.

Greg, are you an alinskyite? What part of “this story was generated by the White House” don’t you get. They traded the five most dangerous people held in Gitmo for a guy they knew deserted at best and collaborated at the worst.

Most dangerous? That’s spin generated by the other side. The reality is that these are 5 former Taliban leaders who have been out of touch with their organizations for 12 years. They once held high positions in a Taliban government that no longer exists and in a Taliban military command structure that has moved on without them. They’re well known to their former captors. They’re not going to just pick up where they left off.

@Zelsdorf Ragshaft III, #38:

Read the rules of war. They are not uniformed combatants. By international law they can be executed without trial.

That is incorrect. Unlawful combatants held prisoner are protected under provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention. They are protected to the same degree as civilians taken into custody. It would be a violation of international law to execute them without a trial. They fall under the jurisdiction of the laws of the nation where they’re held captive. That’s why they were being held in a prison outside of our national borders—to keep them in a legal limbo. The Bush administration hoped to have U.S. law created that would have allowed them to be tried by a military tribunal outside U.S. borders. As with enhanced interrogation, this didn’t strike some people as being a particularly American way of dealing with prisoners. Unfortunately there has been strong resistance to civilian trials for prisoners taken during the war on terror.

The 5 in question were arguably not unlawful combatants, however, which complicated things even further. They had been part of an organization that claimed to be a national government. They held official positions inside that government and its military structure. That’s more relevant to their status than whether they were in or out of uniform when captured. It all added up to a seriously problematic legal situation.

@Greg: I think if you look closely enough into your reference, you can see that none of these five can be considered under the Geneva Convention IV. The would be required to be treated humanely until they are executed.

@ilovebeeswarzone:

The Moon has an orbital eccentric that shifts in a continual 2 week cycle alternating 38 degrees from a northern most point to a southernmost point, that is currently of a range of +/- 19 degrees either side of the celestial equator. It’s a perfectly normal and regular pattern.

On the other hand, the lunar orbit has been extremely slowly increasing, with the Moon’s distance from the Earth growing. this will result in a steadily lessening tidal effect. Eventually, this could result in the Earth losing it’s natural satellite thousands of years from now. (Although that is a preferred outcome over a declining orbit.)

As for the You Tube video, don’t believe everything you come across on the internet. There are a lot of damn fools out their who want others to join their ranks.
