Media and Obama out to lunch — Romney had it right

Jennifer Rubin @ WaPo:

Yesterday, virtually the entire liberal media and some on the right as well made the story of the day not about the murder of our diplomats, not about why we did not prepare for a potential assault, not about whether President Obama’s halting policies had come home to roost, but about why Mitt Romney, after a day of silence from the White House following an atrocious apology issued in Cairo (we now know issued without authorization), spoke out when he did.

As I reported yesterday, an underling, according to the State Department, put out the apology online after it was rejected by the State Department’s Near East desk and he was told to wait. Violence ensued that day. Day turned to night in the United States and the White House was mute. So at 10 p.m. after an entire day without an adequate response, Romney put out a statement. What he said was valid then, as it remains valid in retrospect: “I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

That was not only correct, but the Near East desk at the Obama State Department essentially agreed. (The press seemed to think Romney didn’t know the timeline, but Romney advisors insist that he did. The Cairo embassy reiterated its sympathetic message after the Cairoembassy had been attacked.)

Moreover, at about the same time Romney was speaking, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (after a day of fuming about the Cairo embassy’s decision to jump the gun) was saying essentially the same thing — and making sure to repudiate the Cairo apology:

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack. . . .

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind

So what exactly was the problem? As far as we can see, Romney, the Near East desk and Clinton were in sync. Ah, but where was the president? He apparently had gone to bed and so the day passed without comment from him.

Romney had what right? They’re pedaling the right-wing spin machine just as fast as their little legs can crank the pedals, trying to blur the sequence of events and alter the public’s understanding of Romney’s blunder. It’s wonder to behold the machine in action.

@Greg:

Romney had what right?

The message, Greg. His message was correct.

I agree that his timing on it kinda sucked. The first one. The embargoed one that was released on Tuesday. I’d have waited for Obama to give himself even more rope before yanking the end of it. It seems Obama was going in that direction, all by himself, as it was.

But that doesn’t mean that the message itself, of the Obama admin prostrating themselves to those offended by the film BEFORE they condemned the attacks on the embassy(and consulate), was incorrect.

And Obama’s further gaffe of claiming Egypt is “not an ally”, while his State Dept. turned around and corrected him, shows Obama is/was more intent on campaigning than on what was actually going down over there.

Do I like Romney? No, I don’t. But you going around criticizing Romney when Obama has been the one most disconnected from reality confirms what many of us here have known for a while. That you would defend Obama no matter what he does, no matter how stupid he is, and no matter what kind of damage he is doing to the country. Obamabot? Sure seems like it.

KNOWING YOU AND YOUR INTELLIGENCE, I ‘m sure you will get to appreciate
the MAN AS A PRESIDENT, BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE HARD TO READ PLUS HAVE BEEN DEMONIZED
BY THEIR OWN SIDE TO FIT THEIR PURPOSE OF TAKING THE LEAD, PLUS DEMONIZE BY A SCARED OBAMA DEPICTING HIS WEALTH AS A NEGATIVE TO SEEK THE PRESIDENCY,
AS OPPOSE TO HIM BEING A NOBODY AND LITERALLY BEEN SEATED ON THE POSITION,
JUST BECAUSE HE HAD A BIG SMILE AND NO SUBSTANCE TO ACQUIRE THAT POSITION
NOT EVEN A BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO PROVE HIS RIGHT TO TAKE ON THE HIGHEST POSITION,
WITHOUT THE BASIC ABILITY TO EARN IT EVEN NOW AFTER HIS YEARS OF LEADING A TOLERANT PEOPLE HE USE HIS POWER TO FAIL ON ALL ISSUES, BE IT LOCAL OR FOREIGN.
WHICH COME BACK TO BITE HIM NOW THAT HE IS READY TO LEAVE,
MITT ROMNEY HAS CLASS AND NOBILITY, AND YOU WILL DISCOVER IT ON YOUR TIME, BUT WAIT TILL HE GET THE POSITION BEFORE BEING NEGATIVE, THAT WOULD BE MORE BEING FAIR,
AT THIS TIME WHEN HE NEED OUR SUPPORT NOT SMALL PICK UNDER HIS TIRES WHO WON’T STOP THE CAR FROM GOING TO HIS DESTINATION.

Romney was/is not my first choice, but he is the best of the two candidates. The Golfer-in-Chief has finally figured out that running a country is hard work and he doesn’t like that part of it. But, he does like running all over the country giving speeches and denigrating everyone who doesn’t agree with him.
Obama had no idea what to do, Romney did, but was shot down for making it political. Obama made a statement and then continued with his campaigning. What a glorious bunch of losers! Blood is on the whole administration’s hands. We need to vote them OUT!!

Even though Obama has given up on REAL media questions, he STILL gets caught in lies to the puff-media!
On Wednesday, “Entertainment Tonight” featured the first couple dishing out intimate personal details. Obama: “The one thing I will say is she falls asleep at like 9 p.m. That’s a problem.”
Never mind that he’d just told Vanity Fair that Mrs. Obama goes to bed at 10 p.m.
Vanity Fair had eight months of access to Obama, learning that he sleeps from 1 to 7 a.m. and then works out from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The first lady said she wakes up by 4:30 or 5 a.m. to work out and spend time with her husband.

“I usually get to the gym before he does,” she told the women’s website iVillage. “But he is usually there either in the middle of my workout or right at the end.” So either Mrs. Obama is exercising for three hours every morning or one of these heartwarming stories isn’t exactly true.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the White House staff mocks the president because he looks uncomfortable holding a beer and actually prefers a martini. That’s interesting, considering how many campaign photos show Mr. Obama with a beer.

Obama; “I went to the state fair, and I had a pork chop and a beer. And it was good. Today I just had a beer.” This month, the White House sought to appeal to Joe Six-Pack by giving out the recipe for White House Honey Brown Ale.

I was reading your link and what struck me is the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD CAME SECOND IN LIBYA,
AND CLAIM TO BE FIRST IN ONE CITY THEY SAY TO OWN, AND THE PART WHICH GOT MY ATTENTION IS THEY ARE A UNION, SO THEY IN MY MIND CAN CALL A RIOTS AND ARE FREE TO KILL AND RAMSACK AND BURN IN THEIR PART OF WHAT THEY CLAIMED TO BE SUPREME, SO THAT
REENFORCE OUR SUSPICION OF THE CLOSE TIES WITH OBAMA’ AND HIS UNION’S FRIENDS,
AS THEY CLAIM TO BELONG TO INTERNATIONAL COMMUNIST UNIONS ONE DAY ,
NOT SO LONG AGO, PROMOTING A MILLION UNIONYZE MARCH IN AMERICA, WITH THE WALL PICTURE IN THE BACK OF THE POLISH UNION LEADER NOW ,AS A INCENTIVE TO RALLY THEIR MEMBERS
ON A DATE WHICH I FORGOT, BUT NEAR THE NOVEMBER ELECTION. AND SAID TO IMPRESS THE OPPOSITION
