The Obama administration’s thorny relationship with the Marines, especially in the wake of decisions like the one to end “Don‘t Ask Don’t Tell,” appears to have just gotten much more thorny. Buzzfeed notes the cover of a magazine devoted to Marine Corps issues, which should make several Obama administration operatives nervous:
The Washington Examiner has a story summarizing the article, as well as a video previewing it. Both follow:
Very glad to see this getting more coverage.
Obama would love to keep it quiet.
There is a headline on Drudge that the NCO who made the statement is in TROUBLE. Color me surprised. We all know opinions cannot be voiced if they are negative against the ONE.
@Mikey:
This particular Marine, like all other members of the US armed forces, is well aware that political activity by military personnel has restrictions.
He is apparently going to learn a lesson similar to what Reagan taught the air traffic controllers.
Everybody’s got an opinion—I say this as an ex-Marine.
Aye Well said and welcome back.
Semper Fi
The dislike for this CiC within the military is no secret. He has gone after their health care benefits, retirement, tradaitions, and wants to gut their ranks. Bravo to the Marines. You are not alone. Every one of my former Army buddies who are still in feel the same way. If these Marines do get in trouble, I wonder if the left will stick up for them the way they did for Gen Shinseki who was replaced as Army Chief of Staff because of incompetence, excuse me, for criticizing Bush’s Iraq policy as the left spun it.
Another Vet As Aye pointed out in #3 any active duty serviceman or woman who chooses to go the route of this Sergeant will rightfully face the dismissal Reagan handed the controllers.
@Richard Wheeler: I agree on the dismissal. What I find amusing is when the criticism of Bush by the military was brought forth our MSM was all for it and whined about how they should have the right to complain. Remember 0-bama types??
UCMJ applies in this instance.
However, one Marine who said he would not obey any illegal orders issued by obama is being hounded. THAT is crap.
Common Sense Civilians can complain all they want about the military or anything else. Right to be stupid covered by First. Under UCMJ active duty servicemember can’t publicly( facebook in this case) criticize Potus.
If in fact an ILLEGAL order is actually GIVEN ,which in this case it obviously wasn’t we can discuss further.
I’m talking about two seperate people Rich. The one who is trouble due to the magazine coment is subject to UCMJ. That’s all there is to it.
The other one was a blogger who made the comment about the illegal order. They are trying to bust him.
At least, that is what I take away from the whole thing.
@Hard Right:
Sorry Hard Right, he has a Facebook page called Armed Forces Tea Party and says he will not follow any unlawful orders of the commander in chief. I cannot imagine an unlawful order by the commander in chief that would reach an NCO.
You cannot be publicly political in the military. If he wanted to start a Facebook page for the Tea Party, he should have left the Armed Forces part out of it. There are several active duty bloggers that have similar opinions that leave the military part out of their blogs.
@Aqua:
I have found upon further research he said something else, then “clarified” his remark. Not to mention if he’s making other remarks that are of a political nature, I would have to agree with you Aqua.
If all he had said was that he would not obey an illegal order from obama, that would be different in my eyes. It appears that isn’t the case and will have to face the consequences.
I do think this Marine News Outlet article only scratches the surface of discontent from all Branches of the Military towards this farce of a Commander in Chief.
Are there two different stories here?
One on the cover of Marine Times and another on Facebook?
Isn’t the story on Marine Times about Marines like (and including) the one with the Facebook page?
The Washington Examiner’s story has this:
Doesn’t sound like that’s the whole of it.
I bet there is much more.
Lots of military men and women grouse about orders.
All through the history of man.
