Yesterday was a beautiful exercise in reining in the excesses of a government that has overstepped its bounds. The government works for We the People and when the motley collection of tools we have hired to run it cannot aggregate their fecal matter, it can get ugly. But what we will not tolerate is a tyranny of petty bureaucrats exercising powers they only borrow to protect their fiefdoms by punishing We the People.
Closing the World War II Memorial and all the other open air monuments is a sorry example of this type of excess and we will simply not allow that. So we didn’t. Thousands of Americans, veterans and supporters, peacefully assembled and petitioned their government for redress of a heinous grievance. When our finest generation finds themselves shut out of their own memorial and unable in their twilight hours to pay respects to their fallen comrades, we have a problem. And We the People fixed it.
The barricades were removed and stacked, and some were even delivered to the tyrant in chief to remind him what the pecking order in this country truly is. While the headlines are sensationalizing the presence of some riot police near the White House, that was a minor distraction. The real event was a gathering of eagles and sheep dogs to put the pigs of Washington on notice. You are not more equal than others. You are servants of free people and we can and will throw you out of your cushy sinecures where you sup at the trough of the hard-earned wages of better people than yourselves.
They’re also the servants of a majority of Americans, which also includes veterans, who understand that the memorials have been closed because of a government shutdown that the people you have elected have brought about.

I did not elect Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. I am not that stupid. And he is totally responsible for the closings of the war memorials. No one else.

The person who wrote the above article, Uncle Jimbo, is retired military. Do you have military service in your history, Greggie, giving you the right to criticize his comments? Or is that standard only applicable to conservatives?
I’m a Vietnam veteran, as has been mentioned on a number of past occasions. I resent it when the right expresses opinions that I don’t happen to share, while implying that they speak on behalf of all veterans, or most veterans. They don’t.

If you had any loyalty to those you served with, you would have already expressed your outrage about the refusal to pay the families of those fallen soldiers what they were due and would have been irate at the closing of the war memorials, and the Mall, to veterans but not to illegals.

Greg will defend Obama with his last breath because he can never admit he is wrong. I would like to see a copy of Greg’s DD 214 and his efficiency ratings with assignments. Quite a few of the Democrat Senators are very angry with the administration for exceeding their authority. There is no reason to close parks that are open and not policed normally by federal officers. I think that the fact there were “closed” signs put up on October 1 when it usually takes the government weeks or months to get printing like that done. Seems like not negotiating was the Obama plan all along. We shall see who won this round in the 2014 elections. Wonder how many supporters of Obamacare will be reelected?

The left does this all the time when they claim that they speak on behalf of all women/blacks/gays/whatevers and get all huffy when one of those folks dares to come out as a conservative.
@Jim S: I’m sure Greg realizes that the left does this all the time as well in regards to veterans- portraying them as victims. Body counts, gold star parents, and flag-draped coffins under Bush, Vietnam, and so on when it politically suits them.
Both sides do this. It’s a human nature thing. Not left or right.

I’m here to listen and learn from the quality voices of Conservatism like Aqua and Word. I miss the sound reasoning of Mata and Aye. I enjoy the entertaining articles by Skooks.
I respond to the radical right voices of 05 and R.T to let off steam and remind them that their brand of politics is well beyond the politics of the large majority of the American electorate. I certainly don’t expect to change their views.I appreciate that intelligent people like Skooks and Aqua and Word will at least listen to you and Tom and myself.

That is a lie. What you consider vulgar language (use of the word “crap”) is everyday speak for many. And you only make the claim that I “demean” people because I have said that you dishonor the U.S. military uniform you once donned. I have not changed my opinion on that one iota.
As to my political view, I am a core, Christian, Constitutional conservative. It is no surprise you would consider that a “narrow” political view. And please, don’t insult the readers here by indicating that you are innocent of ever using pejoratives toward others.

Getting back to the article: I salute the civil obedience of tearing down these asinine barricades. This is exactly what those who love this country and support the Constitution should be doing nation wide.
