Greta Thunberg’s plan to save carbon emissions backfires over travel on luxury yacht

Teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg refuses to fly on airplanes, relegating her trans-Atlantic travel to boats. The 16-year-old Swede believes the move cuts down on carbon emissions.

So, when Thunberg needed to travel from the U.S. to Europe last month in order to attend a climate summit in Madrid, Thunberg took a boat, of course.

However, as it turned out, Thunberg’s trip did not reduce carbon emissions. Instead, it produced the same amount that Thunberg hoped to save — perhaps even more.

That is because, as the Sunday Times reported, Nikki Henderson, a 26-year-old yacht skipper, flew to the U.S. from Britain to sail Thunberg’s ship — the La Vagabonde, a 48-foot catamaran — the 3,500 mile journey from the U.S. to Portugal.

More from the Daily Mail:

The journey was meant to save approximately two or three tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

But Ms Henderson’s flight from Britain to the US likely produced the same amount of emissions the journey hoped to save, countering Ms Thunberg’s mission, The Times reports.

Adding insult to injury, the vessel Thunberg used for her journey is not climate friendly because it has two diesel engines and is made from products that use petroleum for production.

Help Greta fight climate change.
Tell her:
No Phone.
No iPad.
No TV.
No XBox.
No Computer.
No New Clothes.
No New Shoes.
No Motor Vehicles (that includes this “sailboat.”)
No Rides to School (if she ever decides to go back)

Practice what you preach, it’s for the climate.

Hey Greta it just snowed in Australia the Emus and wearing snow shoes and the Kangaroos are wearing fur coats and the Kookaburra’s and burning their nests to stay warm

@Nan G:
Why did I just hear the theme song from “Gilligan’s Island?”
Can you imagine being stuck on a sailboat for two weeks with that little ditz?
No boat in the world is large enough.

If she wants everyone to get in line, she needs to stand at the head of it. Show us how it’s done.

@Petercat: Where u been?

@kitt:
Traveling. When I got back, I had to get a new computer for internet stuff and lost all my bookmarks. Actually forgot the name of this site until I saw it referenced somewhere else.
I probably won’t be commenting much, I spent the summer on two wheels away from the internet (except for my webcomic) and frankly, I’m sick of most things web.
I rode many miles, met a lot of people of all sorts, and I’ll tell you, the internet is a fantasy world, an ugly fantasy.
Most people that I met are good and decent, and just want to be left alone to live their lives and take care of their responsibilities.
I don’t think that the hateful ones, the screaming ones, the look-at-mes, understand just what it is that they are poking with a sharp stick.
And I sure as hell don’t want to be watching when they find out.

@Petercat: We missed you, My break will be in the spring, the lil prince is in school now. He got his first PT conference and has completed all goals expected for 4 pre K, my bet is he had before he began, so she will begin phonics, he will already know some but not quite all the alphabet sounds.
I’ll be gone to camp, no signal for weeks at a time to remake my park destroyed by a storm. It will be beautiful again just a bit less shady.

@kitt:
You’re one of the people here that I missed. Hope you get the park fixed up to your liking, being without a signal might be good for you.
Being around people who share a common goal of making things better is soul nourishment.

@Petercat: Getting up early working all day early to bed no tv no internet and very spotty cellphone service. Not nearly as off grid as we were when we first bought the land.
