Katrina Trinko @ The Corner:
Rudy Giuliani harshly criticized President Obama today in an interview, accusing his administration of “covering up” the fact that the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was an act of terrorism.
“I think there’s no question that the administration was covering up from day one,” Giuliani told Fox News Channel’s Fox and Friends. “I mean putting out a totally phony story to try and block the political criticism that the president took his eye off the ball. The President in his haste made himself a tremendous hero over getting Bin Laden. He deserves credit, but my God he wanted to make himself into a superhero.”
“It’s also a president who’s been euphemistic about Islamic extremist terrorism from the very beginning,” he said. “This is the man who said, ‘We’re not going to say War on Terror anymore,’ except he forget to tell them they’re at war with us. So, we end up getting caught by surprise.
“This is a major scandal,” Giuliani continued. “The only reason it isn’t played as a major scandal is because the president has about three quarters of the media in the tank. I mean it’s a disgrace. It should be a scandal for The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC News, CBS News, why the hell aren’t they covering it?”
The right jumped to conclusions about the embassy attack before the facts were in, and immediately began efforts to politically exploit the situation. The White House narrative evolved as additional information came to light.
Which approach seems more responsible?
Which seems to be potentially dangerous, when hasty words alone can quickly have negative international consequences, and when you’re actually in a position to respond militarily to an incorrect conclusion?
Romney was firing off attacks at the Cairo embassy staff and the Obama administration while events were still unfolding. Do you want a guy like that to have his finger on the nuclear button? I certainly don’t.
I’ve got no polite thoughts to share about Giuliani’s accusations, nor about Giuliani himself.
@Greg:
More blatantly dishonest hackery from you Greg.
Obie and his administration knew within the first 24 hours of the Benghazi attack that the events there were the result of terrorism.
Yet, they took to the briefing rooms and to the airwaves to present a series of false scenarios by which they tried to get all of us to believe that the attacks were “spontaneous” with “no pre-planning” and that our ambassador and three others died as a result of “protests.”
The weaving of those tales continues even in the face of overwhelming and indisputable evidence to the contrary.
Why are you so willing to unquestioningly carry the water for people who boldly lie to you?
Maybe that question should be directed to Mitt Romney supporters. The campaign is based on lies. They even lie about their lying.
ONE WHO COMMENT SAID ON THE 7TH THEY ANOUNCE
THE MAJOR MOB REVOLT COMING,
The fantasy stories that Greg weaves, about Obama, are imaginative. They are also just that. Stories. Made up. Fake. Untrue.
And funny.
Especially when challenged on the veracity of his stories, that he immediately changes the subject.
@Greg:
Nice straw man Greg.
Your unwillingness to confront the topic head on demonstrates ample cowardice and a complete lack of character.
Congratulations on that.
@Aye, #6:
Weren’t my thoughts on the topic clear enough?
Giuliani’s allegations have absolutely no basis in fact. They’re shabby fabric spun entirely out of speculation and negative attitude, and represent nothing more than another callous attempt by another opportunistic politician to exploit a tragedy. Initial efforts to do so while events were still unfolding were worse than opportunistic. They were dangerously irresponsible.
That seems clear enough to me.
Three-quarters of the media isn’t “in the tank” for Obama. Three-quarters of the media is simply reporting what the media observes. If that seems to reflect more favorably on democratic candidates and democratic policies than republican candidates and republican policies, the reason might have to do with who and what the GOP is offering as alternatives.
I think American voters are going to reject what the GOP is offering. I don’t think the rejection is going to be confined to the effort to retake the White House, either.
@Greg: Greg, 0-blama also jumped to a conclusion when he accused an unknown video of being the cause. Can’t have it both ways dude!! If he didn’t know the cause why did he blame the video?? 0-blama and his team knew within 24 hours of the incident and still lied about it.
@Greg: Just like the taxes Reid accused him off? How are you coming with any proof?? Did 0-blama buy you a phone as well??
GREG
