A&E has placed Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson on indefinite hiatus following anti-gay remarks he made in a recent profile in GQ.
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,” A&E said in a statement. “His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
The news comes after Robertson compared homosexuality to bestiality in an interview with the magazine. He’ll likely appear in season four, which bows Jan. 15, since production is largely wrapped.
“It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus,” Robertson says in the January issue of the men’s magazine. “That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
During a discussion about repentance and God, Robertson is asked what he finds sinful.
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there,” he says. “Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”
He goes on to paraphrase Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
GLAAD on Wednesday condemned his remarks as “some of the vilest and most extreme statements uttered against LGBT people in a mainstream publication” and said “his quote was littered with outdated stereotypes and blatant misinformation.”
“Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,” GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz said. “He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans — and Americans — who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors, who now need to re-examine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.”
Robertson released his own statement in response: “I myself am a product of the ’60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

Did Robertson misquote the Bible? Nope.
Did Robertson single out homosexuals as the only sinners? Nope.
What exactly was “vile” in his statement? It appears that merely stating one’s opinion regarding the evolutionary dead-end of homosexual behavior cannot be tolerated by the gay agitprop groups.
The hatred is coming from the gay propaganda groups, not Robertson.
A study came out in 2012 that proved children raised by same-sex couples do worse on EVERYTHING!
Worse on measures of social, emotional, and psychological adjustment as well as educational attainment, employment history, need for public assistance, substance abuse, and criminal justice system involvement.
So far, no researcher has succeeded in overturning the study’s findings.
A ”kill the messenger” tack has been taken instead.
One thing Phil could have done to smooth over his views would have been to remind people that we ALL sin, and that sin is usually pleasurable.
That it takes self-control and desire to please God as opposed to self, to win over the various temptations of sins.
But, he said noting incorrect.
And GLAAD talks about loving and committed gay couples while knowing that the vast majority of homosexual behavior is neither loving nor committed.

Miley Cyrus is put on a pedestal for acting like a slut, Phil Robertson is attacked for stating his beliefs. Ironic isn’t it? The President and his administration refuse to enforce laws, they get caught breaking the law, they get citizens killed(Benghazi), and they kill people in foreign lands(drones). Yet not a peep only the sound of crickets chirping. Yet, if someone dares to express their views and discuss Biblical truth they are immediately vilified and attacked by the PC police. Never mind the fact that Baldwin only had a dozen viewers. It was no loss to MSNBC.
Call it was it really was, RW, pandering to the political correct bullshit that all of us are being forced to tolerate. And for that, A & E is going to start a culture war it did not want but one that has been coming for a long time. If the court thinks that a baker has to provide services to someone who doesn’t agree, poltically, with the baker, then why can’t Phil Robertson disagree with GLADD?
But now the left has their Hanes all in a wad over Phil Robertson expressing what millions of Christians believe. He didn’t threaten anyone with harm, nor did he advocate it. But apparently the First Amendment is not supported by either A & E or GLADD. That should tell you all you want to know.
I guess it’s important for people on national cable television networks to be careful about the quacks they make.
Seriously, though… He didn’t make his comments on the television program. A&E probably has a contractual right to suspend him, but I think they overreacted.
The Robertson family should stand tall and support Phil. A & E mess up trying to be politically correct. Yet, they haven’t fired the two gay guys on Storage Wars that said they prefer “anuses” because they’re “tighter.” When do those guys lose their jobs?
If I were Phil Robertson, I’d tell A & E to take their show and put it where the sun doesn’t shine (an actions A & E seems to support if done by two men) and let the bidding begin.

Seriously though, I cannot argue that A&E doesn’t have the right to “fire” Robertson, but I can argue that Robertson has the right to unabashedly state his beliefs. I have not read all his comments. but simply quoting the Bible and his personal belief on homosexuality is not anywhere at all like Baldwin’s “c $@#sucking faggot” gay baiting epithets hurled at photographers. IIRC the GLAAD folks gave Baldwin a pass.

I suspect it has everything to do with the terms of Mr. Robertson’s contract with A&E.

Mr. Robertson has every right to disagree with whomever he wishes, and he also has a constitutionally protected right to free speech. But if he signed a contract that agreed not to make certain statements (for example) and then he proceeded to make such statements in violation of the terms of the contract, the contract is voided by his action. At that point, A&E is free to do anything they want with the contract, as Mr. Robertson has given them that right. A&E’s choice of action may cost it viewership, but they have every right of choice in this matter. Surely you are not suggesting otherwise?
To be accurate, I obviously don’t know the terms of Mr. Robertson’s contract. If there is a provision in it as hypothesized above, Mr. Robertson was perhaps ill-advised to break it and perhaps not, depending on his desire to remain employed. If there is no such provision, I imagine he will be owning A&E sometime soon…
