The Justice Department last week presented the Newland family of Colorado–who own Hercules Industries, a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning business–with what amounted to an ultimatum: Give up your religion or your business.
“Hercules Industries has ‘made no showing of a religious belief which requires that [it] engage in the [HVAC] business,” the Justice Department said in a formal filing in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
In response to the Justice Department’s argument that the Newlands can either give up practicing their religion or give up owning their business, the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing the family, said in a reply brief: “[T]o the extent the government is arguing that its Mandate does not really burden the Newlands because they are free to abandon their jobs, their livelihoods, and their property so that others can take over Hercules and comply, this expulsion from business would be an extreme form of government burden.”
Now that the Supreme Court has upheld the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and its mandate that individuals must buy health insurance, this suit which seeks to protect a small business from being forced to take actions that violate the moral and religious beliefs of the family that owns it is likely to be the next major court battle over Obamacare.
At stake is whether businesses are protected by the First Amendment—the part of the Bill of Rights that guarantees not only the free exercise of religion but also freedom of speech and of the press.
You know, society would be much better off without religion.

The silly thing about Lib1’s post is that there would be no societies without religion. All human institutions, society and culture are founded upon the Sacred. It is surprising that most college educated adults are so unaware.
What is more difficult to apprehend is that Gospels undermine all forms of the Sacred, even Christianity’s own Sacred.
It is no accident that anti-religion radical secularist states have descended into filling mass graves since 14 July 1789.

It also refuses to allow any new churches to be built.
And no permits are even granted for expanding graveyards.
The contracting of the right to a persona conscience to within the walls of one’s church is also very aligned with Islam’s Sharia, which is a religion that does not acknowledge persona conscience within its own adherants.
Odd, that Obama wants to impose this particular constraint on religions other than Islam.
Remember, Muslims are exempt from ObamaCare because they consider this type of insurance to be haram, unIslamic.
If I remember correctly, the reason corporations have the right to donate to individual campaigns, is because of a first ammendment right. That was the Supreme Court ruling.

Wait… Are you a liberal who supposed to preach tollerance or a fascist that seeks to stamp out what you don’t understand? Under current Law that is provided by the constitution of the USA any citizen is allowed to practice their religion (or refusal to worship) without discrimination by government or private citizens. Another example of the DoJ is getting out o line. And the last few nations that went all natural atheist kinda ended up genocidal on its citizens, such as People Republic of China Mao reign trying to kill off buddhists and Christians before the current regime change or how the former USSR for forcefully tried to starve off or worked to literal death Ukrainians in what we now know as the holodorom.

Marxists and fellow travelers have long chafed at that comparison suggesting that Communism is in substance a religion. There are a number of Marxist scholars who I respect, one whom is Eugene Genovese. After a half a century as a Marxist Genovese conceded that there is something to it, Communism has religious aspect. Remember, Buddhism is a religion and Buddhism has NO deity. Eugene Genovese’s Marxist wife converted to Catholicism towards the end of her life. Dr. Genovese followed her and returned to the Catholic of his youth.

Yes on point. Islam claims to provided for freedom of worship as do many Progressives including no few Clintonistas and Obamanites.. They will not however allow freedom of practice of religion [freedom of exercise of religion] where they can enforce their supremacies..
