Just remember, guys: The Internal Revenue Service might be the best-equipped entity to administer the “penalty,” and the “penalty” might be assessed on your tax return, but the requirement to pay a “penalty” if you don’t buy health insurance is most definitively not a tax.
Speaking on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” Wasserman Schultz said Monday, that the law should be enforced by the federal government’s taxing arm because “it’s simply a matter of ease in administration.”
“The way we usually think of taxation, Wolf, is that taxation as the IRS administers is collected on broad swaths and large categories of individuals,” Wasserman Schultz said. “This is a penalty that will be assessed on the tax return if you choose to roll the dice and make us all pay for your being irresponsible and increase all of our health care costs.
“We’re not going to tolerate that any more in America. You have to be responsible and you have to pay a penalty if you choose not to be,” she continued.
Okay, whatever, Democrats — call it what you want. It looks like a tax, it smells like a tax, but fine, it’s just the feds penalizing you for exercising your personal freedom to not buy health insurance. But the fact remains that this “penalty” is going to funnel more of Americans’ money out of the productive private economy and into the government, and it’s going to be a huge imposition to the middle class.
Oh no dearest, I am not peeing on your leg, it’s just raining inside 🙂
But, either way, it’s not going to be enforced.
A penalty is a fine for breaking the law.The ACA says that either buying insurance (or) paying the tax is legal.So it is a tax.The left says it is designed to go after free riders.That it is the free riders who cause the price of insurance to rise.Yet free riders make up 1 percent of the folk who use healthcare.And of those free riders most are not getting a free ride to begin with.They are paying their health care bills as most Americans did at one time.So it seems unlikely that the free riders are responsible for the cost shifting.Medicaid reimburse the providers at a much lower rate then either the free rider or the private insurance carrier and share a much higher percentile of those receiving healthcare .So it seems glaringly obvious that the real free riders are the Medicaid patrons. If the uninsured are the problem WHY are providers starting to refuse Medicaid clients ??
I wish the Democrats good luck in “taxing” the 14 million illegals in this nation who are not only not paying taxes, but by getting an ITIN are claiming 10 little ninos and ninas in order to get more money back than they paid in via the EIC. And if those who file using an ITIN don’t provide proof of health insurance, then the IRS will take it out of their April 15th pay check?
Whoopie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@retire05:
Still lying about the EIC and ITIN numbers, eh?
An ITIN does NOT allow a person to claim the EIC.
You’ve already been called out on your dishonesty regarding that.
You must be a really slow learner.
Debbie’s not being fired as DNC chair. It’s simply a matter of ease for Democrats.
@Aye:
Ok, so the IRS, run by tax cheat Timothy Geithner, says that those with ITINs cannot get the Earned Income Tax Credit. Yep, you’re right, that’s what it says. But then there is the ACTC, and there, my dear foe, is where we are paying those who should not even be in this nation.

I don’t give a damn if it is in the form of the EIC, or the ACTC, either way, we are paying illegals to be illegal.

In the obamacare tax law (ACA) illegals are exempt from having to either buy insurance or pay the tax.Once again it pays off to be here illegally!
Exemptions for religious objectors, undocumented immigrants, prisoners, those earning less than the poverty line, members of Indian tribes, and hardship cases (determined by HHS). Bill: PPACA; Page: 317-337
The USSC says it’s a tax. Miss W-S is simply trying to change how it is perceived by the ignorant. That she will succeed with a large portion of the population speaks not to her truthfulness or speaking ability, but rather, to the ignorance pervasive within our country on government and taxation.
