The Blaze:
“If I wouldn’t have had my gun, I would be dead today,”
A pair of Detroit thugs obviously had no idea who they were messing with when they targeted Paris Ainsworth, a 51-year-old grandma who carries a .45 caliber handgun. There’s a reason her siblings now jokingly refer to her as “Rambo.”
Ainsworth had just arrived home after working a grueling double shift on Saturday night when she noticed two men moving closer to her as she was preparing to exit her car. Sensing possible danger, she pulled out her .45 caliber handgun and put it in her pocket. She got her concealed carry permit about two years ago.
As it turned out, Ainsworth’s gut feeling about the men was correct.
One of the men reportedly told her, “Don’t pull it,” and then started shooting. Ainsworth was reportedly shot three times in the side and once in the hand. The woman then pulled her .45 and started blasting away at the violent thugs.
“I said, ‘You mother (expletive),’ and pulled out (my gun) and started shooting,” she told WDIV-TV.
Both of her attackers were later arrested after they checked in at Sinai-Grace Hospital to receive treatment for gunshot wounds. One of the men was reportedly shot in both of his legs.
It was very difficult for a woman like Paris Ainsworth to get and carry a gun in Detroit.
First, she had to take and pass the Michigan Basic Pistol Safety questionnaire.
Then she had to apply for the Ten Day Handgun Purchase Permit to buy the gun and make sure she found and bought the gun of her choice within 10 days, otherwise she’d have start the process all over again.
When she made her purchase, she had to fill out a Michigan Pistol Sales Record form and make sure the pistol has a valid firearm Safety Inspection Certificate.
Once she had purchased her firearm, she had 10 days to take the gun to the local police department, have the sale recorded, and a new Safety Inspection Certificate issued in her name.
Otherwise, she’d be considered in violation of the law and could be arrested on a misdemeanor gun violation.

@Nanny G:
It was likely very easy for her assailants to get their guns. Criminals don’t have to go through background checks when buying guns from other criminals or stealing them.
Paris ought to be congratulated.
She’s lucky she’s not a “white hispanic,” or the Collective would be busy demonizing her and trying to manufacture two more folk heros.
@Ditto:
Oh, absolutely!
Criminals cut out all that pesky paperwork!
They steal guns or buy them under the table.
They also sometimes send fronts into places where they can buy the guns easily then share these firearms around.
