Collapse of the Cairo Doctrine

Charles Krauthammer @ National Review:

In the week following 9/11/12 something big happened: the collapse of the Cairo Doctrine, the centerpiece of President Obama’s foreign policy. It was to reset the very course of post-9/11 America, creating, after the (allegedly) brutal depredations of the Bush years, a profound rapprochement with the Islamic world.

On June 4, 2009, in Cairo, Obama promised “a new beginning” offering Muslims “mutual respect,” unsubtly implying previous disrespect. Curious, as over the previous 20 years, America had six times committed its military forces on behalf of oppressed Muslims, three times for reasons of pure humanitarianism (Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo), where no U.S. interests were at stake.

But no matter. Obama had come to remonstrate and restrain the hyperpower that, by his telling, had lost its way after 9/11, creating Guantanamo, practicing torture, imposing its will with arrogance and presumption.
First, he would cleanse by confession. Then he would heal. Why, given the unique sensitivities of his background — “my sister is half-Indonesian,” he proudly told an interviewer in 2007, explaining his exquisite appreciation of Islam — his very election would revolutionize relations.

And his policies of accommodation and concession would consolidate the gains: an outstretched hand to Iran’s mullahs, a first-time presidential admission of the U.S. role in a 1953 coup, a studied and stunning turning away from the Green Revolution; withdrawal from Iraq with no residual presence or influence; a fixed timetable for leaving Afghanistan; returning our ambassador to Damascus (with kind words for Bashar Assad — “a reformer,” suggested the secretary of state); deliberately creating distance between the U.S. and Israel.

These measures would raise our standing in the region, restore affection and respect for the United States, and elicit new cooperation from Muslim lands.

It’s now three years since the Cairo speech. Look around. The Islamic world is convulsed with an explosion of anti-Americanism. From Tunisia to Lebanon, American schools, businesses, and diplomatic facilities set ablaze. A U.S. ambassador and three others murdered in Benghazi. The black flag of Salafism, of which al-Qaeda is a prominent element, raised over our embassies in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and Sudan.

The administration, staggered and confused, blames it all on a 14-minute trailer for a film no one has seen and which may not even exist. What else can it say? Admit that its doctrinal premises were supremely naïve and its policies deeply corrosive to American influence?

Religious provocations are endless. (Ask Salman Rushdie.) Resentment about the five-century decline of the Islamic world is a constant. What’s new — the crucial variable — is the unmistakable sound of a superpower in retreat. Ever since Henry Kissinger flipped Egypt from the Soviet to the American camp in the early 1970s, the U.S. had dominated the region. No longer.

But, you don’t seem to understand, Curt; Obama could have done it no other way. Anti-colonialism runs deep in his veins, just as it did in the veins of his biological father. That is why his book says Dreams FROM My Father, not Dreams OF My Father.

Obama’s opinion of the United States was formed, somewhere around his early teens, by a grandfather who held Communist sympathies, and by a card carrying Communist and member of the CPUSA, Frank Marshall Davis. It was through Davis’ eyes, the eyes of a black man, so thought Obama, that Obama formed his opinion of not a nation that shed its own blood for the freedom of others, but of a nation that pilaged the wealth of other nations for the benefit of itself.

Obama, who is really full of himself, thought that if he stretched the hand of friendship out to the retarded Muslim world he would be given a hand of friendship back. He thought that his education in Islam as a young child, and his blood tie to a Muslim half-sister, would give him credibility and he would be viewed as the Great Healer who ended the anomosity between two, radically different, cultures.

The past 9 days have been a rude alarm for Obama, I am sure. The man who thought he would bring a new “cooperation” between cultures is now being burned in effegy in almost every Islamic nation. The hatred for him is even greater than the hatred the Middle Eastern nations had for George W. Bush, and for two very important reasons; they don’t respect, or fear, Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. and his limited years learning the evening call to prayer and his accidental relationship to a female Muslim means absolutely nothing to those that wish to do us harm.

Like LBSs Great Society has proven to be a failure, so too, has Obama’s Great Healing plan for the Middle East proven to be a failure. We knew it was coming. We saw his failure on display with a nation as tiny as Honduras.

yes OBAMA made a huge error, he thought he had them in his pocket,
he gloated about it, he brought them in the USA, HE FED THEM, HE GAVE THEM MONEY AND JOBS,
and they commit sacrilege on the same day of their previous infamy,
now death of men who where braves enough, who had compassion toward them,
men who obeyed the call to go there, they as soldier obeyed OBAMA, COMMANDER IN CHIEF,
NOW they are dead they have been tortured and parade on the streets like criminals
among a mob delirious, regurgitate by the scene of how they insulted AMERICA THEY WILL FOREVER HATE

Pakistan: Three killed as tens of thousands of Muslims take to the streets on “Love the Prophet Day”
HUH!!!????
Three Killed???

Three people were killed and dozens injured on a holiday declared by Pakistan’s government so people could rally.
In the Pakistani city of Peshawar, police fired on rioters who were torching a cinema. Mohammad Amir, a driver for a Pakistani television station, was killed when police bullets hit his vehicle at the scene.
A protester who was shot during a demonstration in the same city also died.
In Karachi, armed protesters among a group of 15,000 fired on police, killing one.
The crowd also burned two cinemas.
The Pakistani government declared Friday to be a national holiday — “Love for the Prophet Day” — and encouraged peaceful protests.
~~~~~
So much for law-abiding.
So far 33 people have died including our 4 Americans in Bengazi.
BTW, on a side note about Obama, I have never heard Obama say Mohammad without prefacing it with ”the prophet,” however I have never heard Obama talk about Jesus as the Messiah or the Christ or even as our saviour.
Weird, no?
But all for the “love of the prophet.”
And all by those who call their religion the ”religion of peace.”
Nan G.
why does he play the hiding game?
he played the part to be elected in 2008, then he began to talk about them,
he visit them, he send the ASTRONAUT THERE AFTER SHUTTING THE NASA RESEARCH HE SEND BILLIONS OF MONEY TO MUSLIMS, RUINING AMERICANS, HE HELP THE BROTHERHOOD TO GAIN POWER, DISREGARD THE LOST OF LIVES OF MUSLIMS LOYAL TO GADDAFI, WHICH DON’T MATTER FOR HIM AS WELL AS THE MUSLIMS,AS WE SAW THE LACK OF SECURITY
KILLING AND TORTURED THE 4 BRAVES IN BENGASI JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, AND NOW MANY AMERICANS KNOW WHERE HE IS LEANING AND IF HE IS RE-ELECTED, HE WILL MOVE FORWARD ON HIS MISSION TO SELL AMERICA, he is running not for AMERICA,
BUT FOR ISLAMIC QUEST TO CONQUER THE WORLD,
as we see all those humans crowded together their land is not big enough to sustain them, so they would conquer and kill the others, to take their place, they feel they deserve what is ours, that’s what OBAMA called “REDISTRIBUTION”
The French media is reporting a bit of good news from Libya……
Islamists flee as angry Libyans storm Benghazi compound
http://news.ph.msn.com/top-stories/islamists-flee-as-angry-libyans-storm-benghazi-compound-2
Libyan protesters ousted a jihadist militia from its headquarters and seized a raft of other paramilitary bases in second city Benghazi early Saturday in heavy clashes that left four people dead.
Tens of thousands took to the streets on Friday to protest against the power of the militias.
The group’s members took flight as hundreds of protesters stormed and then torched its compound, and also evicted it from the city’s Al-Jalaa hospital, where they were replaced by military police, an AFP correspondent reported.
It was at one such base — the headquarters of the Raf Allah al-Sahati Brigade, an Islamist unit under the authority of the defence ministry — that the four people were killed in clashes between its fighters and hundreds of protesters, some of them armed.
Demonstrators paid tribute to Ambassador Stevens and the other Americans killed in the September 11 assault on the US consulate in the city that Washington now says was a “terrorist” attack.
“Libya lost a friend,” read one banner. “We want justice for Stevens,” said another.
Jihadist militants of Ansar al-Sharia fired in the air as they retreated from their headquarters in the face of the overwhelmingly superior numbers of the protesters.
On Saturday, the building was in the hands of the regular armed forces, an AFP correspondent reported.
