This picture of our New Leaders is good:
The left is now attempting to deplatform anyone who criticizes Thunberg, and some on the nominal right are (get this!) assisting them. The left demanded that Michael Knowles, for example, not be booked on Fox, and Fox said that he would not be.
The cucked-out, tucked-under Washington Examiner jumped to its favorite type of easy clickbait article — attacking the right, yet again, this time for not treating Ms. Thunberg with the level of respect to which she is so obviously entitled.
We’re not allowed to criticize 16 year olds? That’s funny.
I'm so old, I remember when the press loved criticizing 16-year-olds. pic.twitter.com/kxxWmLGS7B

Trump was effusive in his praise:
Green New Deal is the scheme to play…
Gouging workers all the live-long day!
High taxes and complete control…
Turning the nation to another shit-hole!
Why isn’t Assange in the US?
Do not release the uncensored truth.
The Black Vault has tons of FOIA on MKultra.
Millions of children are being programmed.
Cults use the same techniques.
From Reuters
@Greg: Its a picture of a petulant child that has no scientific background or education. Her Parents turned her into an activist…big deal.
@Greg: Oooo! A meme; the ultimate weapon.
“Why, you…. I’ll give you such a look, you old meanie!” I’m really impressed. You think she’s aware that polar ice keeps getting thicker and thicker and spreading wider and wider instead of vanishing?
We’re the only advanced industrial nation where half of the population doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that fossil fuels are being slowly phased out already because they make less economic sense than renewable and carbon-neutral energy technologies. They don’t know because the fact is kept hidden, with untold millions being spent yearly by special interests to convince them that there’s no problem with global warming, and that renewable energy technologies are some sort of socialist scam.
Do you want to know what the real scam is? According to a recent International Monetary Fund study, the United States spent more in 2015 on direct and indirect subsidies of coal, oil, and gas than it spent on its entire annual defense budget. Study: U.S. Fossil Fuel Subsidies Exceed Pentagon Spending What you’re paying to help with that scam isn’t collected at the gas pump or when you pay your electric bill, but it’s coming out of your pocket nevertheless. It’s part of the rapidly growing national debt, and contributing to the coming time when there will be many important things that we’ll no longer be able to afford to do.
More forward-thinking nations are subsidizing the rapid growth of future energy technologies instead of keeping the past on increasingly expensive life support. Seriously, do you really think Europe is building wind turbines like crazy because they’ve been caught up in some sort of pyramid scheme? Even China is building a renewable energy infrastructure, and it isn’t because they’re fixated on global warming.
Meanwhile, the right is making fun of a child who sees through the adult world’s b.s. to a real problem.
It’s not a meme unless it’s true.
It’s not true.
Greta has no powerful message to anyone outside her little circle of lefty greenies.
And even her own side is peeling off away from her.
She’s alienated those supporting the Green New Deal.
Lol.
She’s pictured riding in a luxury yacht while eating foods wrapped in all manner of PlASTICS!!!
Hypocrite.
She jets here and there while her fellow schoolchildren LITTER up every venue they use!
Hypocrites.
(I bet I’m greener than she is, and I don’t litter, ever.)
The USA has been doing well on the environmental front.
China is a huge toxic disaster zone where people actually get sick just trying to make a living.
But she keeps her mouth shut about her fellow COMMIES!
@Greg:
They aren’t being phased out because there is no viable alternative. Solar and wind are supplements, not replacement. Pretending we are on the verge of or even remotely capable of “zero emissions” is as deluded as climate change itself.
No, we are making fun of YOU for treating a theater prop as an oracle. But, then again, liberals are not known for their indigenous thoughts but more for their lemming-like characteristics, aren’t they?
Really? How many new coal fired generating plants are being built, and how many old ones are being shut down? What do you think all of those wind turbines in Europe are being built for? To serve as giant lawn ornaments? We just had a brief global freak-out because somebody launched a drone strike on a Saudi petroleum facility. I’m sure the Saudi’s love alternative energy tech. And the Russians, who would like Europe to be dependent on their piped in fuels.

U.S. Installed and Potential Wind Power Capacity and Generation, as of Q2, 2019.
Move the slider at the bottom of the map to see how rapidly generating capacity has increased over the past 20 years.
Click on the Potential tab to see what’s possible. The potential number shown for each state followed by a K represents thousands of mega-watts. Mega signifying one million.

@kitt: The left has invested in their wind and solar. That’s what they have to push to make money. It’s not like under Obama where the government will make good their losses, they are in the real world now. Nothing else will substitute for the costly and inefficient methods where they’ve sunk their investments.
@Deplorable Me: Yes pushing break through energy solutions is like trying to compete in trash removal on the east coast, all locked up with the mob.
Those that have natural cures get snuffed as well.
@Greg: If you were educated on the subject, you’d refer to that as gigawatts.
One nuclear plant closure tilts the clean energy scale back quite a bit, requiring massive solar or wind farms to be created to replace it. The conflict metals needed for solar (and any battery-based grid…that doesn’t exist) and associated toxicity are akin to handling nuclear waste (of what we don’t have very much, believe it or not). It isn’t “clean” and it isn’t without its drawbacks. It’s been coupled to a political ideology bent on gaining control by way of manufactured crises, nothing more.
Your citation of 1,577 MW is a minuscule amout, since it’s close to that produced by ONE nuclear plant. Us production is as followed, by type (wikipedia):
Thermal/Fossil 736.33 GW down 13.85 GW from 2016
Nuclear 99.6 GW was flat from 2016
Hydropower 79.79 GW down 0.1 GW from 2016
Wind 87.6 GW up 6.3 GW from 2016
Solar 26.97 GW up 5.02 GW from 2016
We should definitely pursue more clean energy sources, such as wind and solar.
Empowering children to protest is just cowardice. We’ll solve the issues, make a cleaner planet, and find better ways to make energy. The Left has conveniently ignored Bill Gates moves to mass produce Thorium Reactors…though the issue of going to China to build and test them is wrong, and now not possible due to the Trump Administration’s rightful actions against China’s theft of IP.
Nuclear remains the current solution, clearly. Anyone saying otherwise is ignorant of both science, engineering, and power generation.
@Nathan Blue: Nate there is no such thing as safe nuclear energy where does the waste go? How many plants are on fault lines
https://world-nuclear.org/nuclear-basics/what-are-nuclear-wastes.aspx
We have loads of coal gas and oil, put all the climate scientist to work engineering ways to burn it clean. Government grants should be directed away from “settled science” into engineering grants.
@Nathan Blue, #15:
I was clarifying the terminology that actually appears on the linked website and the Potential map, Dr. Brown. Because not everyone will necessarily notice that the figures followed by K are thousands of Megawatts.
Not everyone is smart enough to screw in a high-efficiency LED light bulb, you know.
Uh huh. How many new nuclear power plants were commissioned during the same short period?
We could be pushing the rate at which renewable energy production is climbing to a much higher number. We’re not because there’s enormous resistance to the concept, not because we lack the technology.
Molten salt energy storage does not require banks of batteries made with “conflict” metals.
@Greg:
I’m aware. they’re called Democrats these days. They spend too much money on antifa shirts and tickets to the UN, not enough on modern light bulbs, autism medications and textbooks.
And since you burn like an incandescent bulb yourself, you parroted some other idiot not realizing how you sounded yourself:
Meh.
To be clear, Doc Brown said “One point twenty-one gigwatts!”
@Greg:
That’s the point, little guy. You might want to step out of this conversation, because you’re out of your depth.
Yes, and that resistance is to nuclear.
Molten salt battery tech is awesome, but not the panacea you think after you made a quick google search to support your agenda.
You sidestepped the actual numbers: solar and wind cannot take the burden of fossil fuels currently. Nuclear can if we build the plants. They are smaller, make more energy than wind and solar, and take much much less real estate. The giant solar farms are not tenable, though I suggest we build solar into every vehicle and device we can.
I support the development and growth of all forms of clean power generation, no matter what they are.
The issue is you and your party made this into a “religion” of propaganda and ideology, black and white, and are obstructing real progress in energy development…while sending out kids with special needs to complain about conservatives.
Weak.
@kitt:
The only thing that is “safe” is to go back to the stone age. Everything we do in civilization has risks.
That said, we have waste storage and that works. The ignorance surrounding nuclear, made even worse by bad reactors like Chernobyl and that one in Japan, has people sitting on the solution to our energy needs and not even knowing it.
