I have to give credit to Ret. Gen. Lovell for his candor. He comes across to me as being both ashamed and humiliated to have been so close to the action, but unable to get approval from the WH to mobilize a rescue force. But then again, I feel that what he should have done was gone ahead and launched a support and rescue force, and tell Washington, that until they can get their sh*t together and get the CIC online, that he will assume that the current President will take the same action any other past President would undertake to safeguard our Ambassador and embassy staff.

Foreign embassies are allowed security forces, but every host nation always holds a personal responsibility to protect foreign embassies from armed assaults by citizen’s of the host nation. It seems clear that some of our Embassy’s hired local security were in on the assault. We still don’t know exactly what was going on with the CIA and certain militant groups. Without question Stevens was treated barbarically by those who assaulted the compound. So far only one suspect has been arrested and another detained and later released for lack of evidence.
