Back in May, Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, wore a $990 Reed Krakoff silk shirt for a media appearance. The item of clothing set off a media firestorm, with the Romneys widely accused of being “out of touch” with average Americans.

In particular, the Washington Post wrote that the $990 blouse “will not help her husband change those perceptions, no matter how many Laundromat photo ops are on the campaign’s itinerary.”

Fast forward to last Friday, when First Lady Michelle Obama attended an Olympics reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace, donning a J. Mendel cap sleeve jacket from the 2013 Resort collection.

The price-tag? $6,800.

This time, the Washington Post simply described the intricacies of the jacket and noted that Mrs. Obama has previously been criticized for “not dressing up enough for Queen Elizabeth II, so she stepped up her game.” No snide remarks, no outrage over the cost, no suggestion she was “out of touch.”

The MSM bias is so disgusting!! It’s this kind of krap that America has to filter through to get at the real truth. Fact is when our media gets their talking points from the Whitehouse the expectation of NO bias is laughable!! Maybe that’s why Fox News is the most popular.

Yeah, liberal/progressives are right. There is no MSM bias.

I really liked Ann Romney’s blouse.
Not enough to buy it.
But enough to buy look-alikes.
You do want to look your best in front of cameras.
And this was an interview.

OTOH, I rarely like Michelle Obama’s clothing….on her.
Some of it is OK on models or girls it fits.
But shrunken sweaters, too tight dresses and under-the-bust belts are too young for a woman her age (or mine).
Her jacket was to be worn to see the Queen.
That’s OK her wearing a pricy thing for that.
OTOH when she wears $500 shoes to hand out food to the poor, that’s very poor taste.
But then she looked fantastic on her vaca to Spain in that snazzy black and white stunner! (Except for the shoes 🙁 )

Romney IS out of touch. So what. He can’t change that. That’s the way he was brought up.Doesn’t really bother me.
Huckabee used to say he reminded people of the guy next to them on the assembly line while Romney reminded them of the guy who fired them.
Romney is a blue blood in appearance and actions.

@Richard Wheeler: Richard, how would you define out of touch? Is it income, then how much wealth defines out of touch? Is Romney the only politician that can be found under your definition. Would you define 0-bama as out of touch? If not, why not. I think you see my point here. If not let me go further to say being out of touch may be exactly what America needs as a President. I can’t help but believe Kennedy, Reagan, Bush, and many more who were President should meet this criteria.

@Common Sense:
Common Sense, how right you are!
Imagine why we all (Media, too) called the Kennedy era ”Camelot.”
It was way UP there in the clouds where we mere mortals could only gaze in wonder.

John Kerry wanted to bring those days back.
When has he rubbed shoulders with commoners?
Remember when he said the restaurants he dined at always had world leaders in them so that he could easily do some off-the-record negotiating and meeting?

Nancy Pelosi is in her own little world insulated by hundreds of millions of dollars.
She is so out of touch that she doesn’t even know what her own religion teaches!

Romney had a great upbringing and inherited wealth.
But then he gave it all away!
And after that he EARNED that much and maybe more on his own.
Still he can dig out the stump of a tree, fallen in a storm, from a neighbor’s yard.

Did you see how Obama treated the black professor he insisted have a beer summit with him and the white police officer who arrested him?
Yeah, pathetically out of touch and self-centered.
The caption reads:

Sergeant James Crowley helping Henry Louis Gates Jr down the White House steps toward the rose garden beer summit, while Barack Obama strides blissfully ahead….

Who would YOU rather have a sit-down meal with?
I’d pick the Romney’s any day.

Common Sense Who’s anybody kidding. They are both out of touch. How could they be otherwise? They are both elitists. Is that bad in and of itself. I’d say NO. I want an educated, intelligent leader.Don’t you?
That’s one of the reasons I LIKE THEM BOTH. Looking forward to the debates.

@Richard Wheeler: Spot on Richard. I want a President who can fix the REAL issues of America starting with our economy and job creation. Granted there are other issues but without first turning America towards the prosperity that we once had, it won’t make any difference. How petty our country has become. Seeing the forest for the trees comes to mind for me. It’s like we can’t fix the real problems so let’s make some up and pretend. I’m afraid the time to fix the real problems is critical and must be addressed.

@Richard Wheeler:

Who’s anybody kidding. They are both out of touch. How could they be otherwise? They are both elitists.

Rich, I completely agree with that. And, as well, I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone here who feels much different, if at all.

I dunno J.G., Nan keeps talkin about that neighbor’s tree trunk. Anyone ever see him with a wrinkle or a hair out of place? A true Brahmin and proud of it.
Both are extremely smart and articulate. Give BHO the nod on sense of humor, but think them both personable. Looking forward to debates and a number of close Senatorial contests.
