1,000 Released Criminal Illegal Aliens Commit New Crimes

New information obtained by the Senate Judiciary Committee reveals many criminal aliens released from custody have since gone on to be convicted of new crimes.

Information provided by the Department of Homeland Security indicates that 36,007 criminal illegal immigrants were released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in 2013. Of that total, at least one thousand have been convicted of new crimes.

Among the new convictions are many traffic-related and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) cases. There are also cases of battery, aggravated assault, lewd acts with a child under age 14, child cruelty with possible injury/death, robbery, drugs and terroristic threats.

“The Obama Administration claims that it is using ‘prosecutorial discretion’ to prioritize the removal of criminal aliens from this country,” says Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“But this report shows the disturbing truth: 1,000 undocumented aliens previously convicted of crimes who the Administration released in 2013 have gone on to commit further crimes in our communities. I will continue my work to ensure our immigration officials are doing what it takes to take criminal aliens off our streets and out of our country.”–Sen. Charles Grassley
