The odds that actor Matt Damon could become president of the United States are 100-to-1, according to Ireland’s largest bookmaker.

Paddy Power, which operates a chain of licensed betting offices and retail outlets located throughout Ireland and in the UK, included Damon’s name in its odds-making after Damon received “a glittering endorsement for the role from fellow Hollywood star Michael Moore,” according to a Paddy Power press release.

“There’s been a strong tradition of Hollywood stars making the transition into politics since Ronald Reagan,” the Dublin bookmaker said in a news release. “Matt Damon has never been afraid to express his political views and would surely garner some high profile supporters if he chose to run.”

The company listed Damon, perhaps best known for portraying CIA assassin Jason Bourne in a series of films, at 66-to-1 to receive the Democratic nomination for the 2012 election.

Power said President Obama remains “the strong favorite at 4-to-6 odds in the race for the White House,” followed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and the former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, who are at 7-to-2 and 5-to-1 odds, respectively. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R0Minn.) stands at 16-to-1 odds.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, was listed at 25-to-1 odds of being the next U.S. president.

I love his movies.

As for Mr. Damon in real life, he is nothing more than a demagogue who doesn’t understand basic economics, nor understand what the Constitution says, let alone means by what it says.

Actually, I think that Ben Affleck is far more likely than Matt Damon to seek political office. The average South Bostonian from “Good Will Hunting,” (one of my favorite films) rather than the genius South Bostonian.

That’s not nearly in my top ten films, but I liked it.
