Republicans Have the Key to Keeping Virginia’s Governorship in November – Will they Take It?

Having lived in Virginia for over 20 years now, I frustratingly watched the Democrats run an incremental, disciplined campaign to do  to The Old Dominion what they’d done to states like Colorado or my beloved home state of New Jersey. The Republicans responded with years of infighting between the RINOs who were happy with surrendering the state via managed decline while those uppity Tea Party types fought to not lose the state they loved. Sound familiar? In 2013 I watched our Governor’s race go down the tubes as Clintonista bagman Terry McAuliffe beat Tea Party favorite Ken Cuccinelli. Ken got outspent and branded early as some kind of radical (you know for crazy ideas like “don’t spend more money than you have”), and the GOP National decided to spend a perfunctory amount in Virginia while dumping money into… New Jersey. To get RINO Chris Christie re-elected to his relatively safe seat. After that I’d been keeping an eye on VA politics, trying to figure out the right time to sell Chateau D’ Bob and move to a state The Radical Left was unlikely to pollute for the next decade or two. Then 2021 happened.

Terry McAuliffe, who had been term limited out in 2017, was allowed to run again for a nonconsecutive 2nd term. The GOP offered Glenn Youngkin, who didn’t have any traits that bothered me, but something about him struck me as a GOPe Jeb!-esque candidate who would run a gentlemanly campaign with the intention of gracefully losing. And his early campaign did nothing  to inspire confidence, blandly having a cornerstone of lowering the grocery tax. For an econ geek like me I completely get how it disproportionally helps the poor, but it doesn’t drive voters to the ballot box. Then T-Mac decided to step on his own member.

2021 was when the world was slowly emerging from the damage caused by the overreaction to The Fauci Flu. Significant for this election, 2020 had given parents some ugly insight as to what the public education system thought of our kids. And a story broke that T-Mac decided to carry the banner for the teachers who had been abusing their students by standing together to keep the kids out of schools. T-Mac said that parents had no business knowing what was going on in their kids’ classrooms.  This did not go over too well among parents who had spent the last year raising concerns about our kids’ education and were simply told by our various school boards to go copulate ourselves. Given a simple opportunity to apologize and clarify, the arrogant T-Mac doubled down on his remarks! Seriously, all T-Mac had to say was something to the effect of “I misspoke. Of course I’m not suggesting that parents should have no say in their kids’ education, just that if every parent were in the classroom how can teachers possibly do their job?” But he didn’t.

It didn’t help that around this time in Louden County (near DC) a girl was violated in a school bathroom by a dude wearing a dress, which only amplified this issue. The silence from T-Mac’s campaign was deafening, as the Democrats are now beholden to the LGBTQ+ (Silent P)  cadre. And Youngkin was able to bring out the Education Parents vote, and T-Mac blew an election he had no business losing. Since then, Youngkin hasn’t done a lot to impress me, but he hasn’t been a disaster, either. While I can live with that, I wish he’d spent the start of his term campaigning across Virginia to pick up Republican seats statewide and gain an electoral majority in the state legislature instead of trying to raise his national profile by campaigning in Arizona or providing CNN with free content by giving a town hall where he indulged an abused child.

Fast forward to today, and Louden County is at it again. Now we have a transsexual girl who is identifying as a boy who went into the boys’ bathroom and started recording with her phone. Three boys complained to the “adults” working at the school, who proceeded to file a Title IX harassment complaint against… the three boys. Thankfully Gov. Youngkin has directed his Attorney General Miyares to investigate.

Meanwhile, because Virginia and New Jersey have their Gubernatorial elections in odd years, this November Virginia has an election that features Democrat Abigail Spanberger versus Republican Lt. Governor Winsome Sears. While Spanberger has remained as silent on this bathroom incident as McAuliffe was to the one that occurred on his watch, Spanberger has a typical Democrat stance of claiming to be pro-woman while having a history of supporting viciously anti-woman legislation. Virginia Democrats aren’t even trying to hide their extremism – they’re bragging about a push to enshrine abortion and gay marriage into the Virginia Constitution.

Right now there are a lot of angry Democrats in Virginia eager to vote this fall. Current polling looks like Spanberger has a significant advantage, so it is crucial that Sears uses the next few months to expose her opponent for the radical that she is, It won’t be an easy fight, but too much is at stake to let the Democrats take another step in turning Virginia into California,
